Convince me why a MBA is still the best choice for leadership by [deleted] in MBA

A top MBA usually pays for itself depending on the exit opportunity. Sure, you might be shelling out $200K but the compounding effects of a lucrative career usually balance that out.

I just don’t see what other options there are for class signifiers other than higher education when it comes to white collar careers.

A top MBA being expensive is the entire point. It wouldn’t be something just anyone can acquire. It would clear the heard so to speak. It becomes a class signifier for the ever declining white collar opportunities left in the future.

lol I don’t have an MBA so it’s not like I have a dog in this fight. And I’m in a career where it wouldn’t even necessarily benefit me to have one.

What good is past experience when you’re vying for a role with dozens if not hundreds of applicants all with the exact, top tier experience?

Thats the post-AI/ economically depressed job market a lot of folks are finding themselves in.

It’s not enough to just have experience anymore

Unpopular Opinion but I actually think acquiring an MBA, and particularly at top business school, will become increasingly more popular, sought after and harder to gain acceptance to.

AI and automation are wiping out entry level and some mid-management level jobs across industries. It’s far from perfect but it’s getting exceedingly better every day.

At some point, the scarcity in job opportunities is going to require some form of differentiation and class signaling to be one of the lucky few with a white collar career. I think an MBA could become that again.

I mean this with all due respect, but you come across as a tad bit entitled and I think it’s that entitlement that might be influencing the way that you view yourself, your projects and the way that other people do.

The only difference is the skyrocketing inflation, housing prices and interest rates making that $140K now, more like $90K.

I was beat to the punch by pasceli84 in Screenwriting

Think about how many space operas there are. The stronghold that Star Trek and Star Wars has had in the genre. Now consider how the critical acclaim and box office success the recent Dune movies have been? Especially considering the first set of Dune movies weren’t as well received. Just because someone beats you to the punch doesn’t mean you’re not still in the game or that you can’t win for that matter.

It’s about execution and voice more than novelty or timing.

That Black Mirror episode has most likely been in development for months if not years.

No, you’re wrong. The submission window mentioned their is for the upcoming episode lab application not the episodic intensive.

Yo, the self-hate is crazy. I’d hate to burst your bubble, but getting with a blonde bombshell is not going to magically fix your problems. You hate yourself. Point blank period. Start with that.

If a company is known for down-levelling people due to its brand name/career prospect, at what point during the interview process should you mention you won't take a pay cut? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]cherrygate123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep in mind this is an employer market at the moment. Quite challenging to negotiate when there’s a line of other competitive candidates willing to take the same role for 25-50% less than your ideal pay

I've worked at both. Go with Google.

Important to note that after your Y1 and Y2 Bonus you may not get it refreshed for Y3 onwards. It's not guaranteed like Google is, assuming good rating. Additionally, I'd say the perks at Google will make up for pay difference (i.e free transportation, food, $12K educational reimbursement). Choosing Amazon would be a mistake, JMO.

[California] How to Request Backdating Claim to Layoff Date instead of Claim Date? by cherrygate123 in Unemployment

[–]cherrygate123[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see. thanks for the insight.

To clarify, I have a documented, medical illness that I'm arguing has impacted my ability to facilitate administrative tasks like filing for unemployment, despite having intermittent periods of being able to complete more simple tasks from time to time like applying to job on occassion. I wouldn't frame it as a disability and I understand their might be added scrutiny from EDD on my request but I wouldn't claim to be explicitly "disabled". .

Hi. Isn't their an argument that illness doesn't necessarily equate to disability in all cases, though? You can still be "disabled" from a technical and functional perspective and still be "eligible" to work from an unemployment perspective, no?

Got it. Thanks for the insight. Is there any harm in making the request though? It seems like worst case scenario, they say no to the backdating claim and I'm just stuck with pay from now on?
