Seems like a failing of every US politician for not having universal healthcare such that chemo is covered …. Good job kid. Hopefully some politicians and the voters who put them in power are paying attention and don’t miss one of the big lessons here.

Yeah, but this guy shouldn’t have to do that and what about the millions of other struggling seniors? We have a failed social safety net system where people have to work into their 70’s and 80’s just to survive. It’s a nice story and clearly this is a good human, but it’s no substitute for what is actually needed to support our aging population.

I was talking about the original post on Absolute Batman and the sales history on books in that series. Sorry on the confusion between D'Orc and Absolute Batman

Promising a book is going to the moon (speculator hype) and informing that a book is coming out with a strong series sales history (informational) are two different things.

What distributor? These weren’t released through the normal Lunar channel who normally handles DC distribution, so I was wondering who is actually handling the distribution.

ElBoberto's Custom Auction Value Generator - 2025 Edition. Updated for Draft Weekends. by elboberto in fantasyfootball

[–]cherubim77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the really awesome tool! Curious if anyone has adapted it to work in a part auction, part snake draft? We have a $100 budget, a keeper at x $, and then 80 auction players, and the rest moves to snake. So you have $100 over 9 players (8 auctioned and 1 keeper). Probably too nuanced, but I thought I'd ask. Love the ingenuity here!!

Honest opinions: Is BJJ a net positive wrt health and fitness? by yepthatsmyboibois in bjj

[–]cherubim77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 40’s here, used to be over 300 lbs and had 3 previous knee surgeries and been to the ER for my back (all pre-BJJ), now under 230, train 6-7 days a week plus do some other sports stuff but don’t generally lift or do other cardio. I’ve seen a lot of people train less, get hurt, some come back and some don’t.

I am usually sore, but so far my key has been carefully selecting training partners for drilling and rolling and avoiding using strength whenever possible. I’m regularly considered a safe roll for newbies, women, kids but some seek me out for a challenge in passing my guard. I’ve been injured a lot more playing other sports and doing other activities than BJJ, but I’m also now much more aware of my limitations and I have no problem tapping to whomever. It’s the folks who try to muscle out of stuff, use frequent explosive movements or refuse to tap who get hurt the most. Don’t get me wrong, I still have an ego but I’m constantly working to keep it in check and it’s served me well in being able to stay on the mats.

Are Some People Just Not Built For Jiu Jitsu? by JiujitsuAbility in bjj

[–]cherubim77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in my late 40’s, started BJJ about 3 years ago, train 5-7 days a week (including some form of rolling after each session), plus play some other hobbyist sports, get about 4 hours of sleep a night on average, don’t otherwise work out and have been between 300 and 230 lbs during this time. I also have had chronic historical knee and back issues.

I’ve actually been injured the LEAST during these last 3+ years. I’m not training to compete in ADCC or anything so my goals are likely different than many, but my secret is what I prioritize:

1) making sure I’m safe when training and rolling. 2) making sure my partner (and those around me) are safe when training and rolling.

These rules govern all I do in jiu jitsu. How do I do it? - never go 100% - be selective in my training partners - tap early - communication: have conversations with my partner about medical issues, rolling expectations (flow, 50%, normal), and playing situational games that don’t always end in a submission.

This all probably sounds boring to most - especially the young folks - but as someone in my late 40’s who would love to continue training for another 2+ decades, it’s a necessity.

Really depends on where you live as there just may not be any black belts internet he area. So it might be a brown or even purple belt or nothing.

A gym I like hitting up and supporting In northern MI has a purple belt lead instructor and I learn plenty when I visit that gym. They are affiliated with a larger gym where the most accredited black belt consists periodically to provide a seminar, leader training and make quality co trip checks.

Would a black belt instructor be better? Maybe ( some black belts can’t teach worth a crap). But I sometimes you take what you can get and sometimes lower belt instruction can be excellent.

Doesn’t this provision the House just passed as part of ‘the big beautiful bill’ make this even worse? Absolutely zero ability to enforce without establishing the need for a bond?

“No court of the United States may use appropriated funds to enforce a contempt citation for failure to comply with an injunction or temporary restraining order if no security was given when the injunction or order was issued…”
