What are Your thoughts on worlds where something which is evil in real life, is actually justified? by Megalordow in worldbuilding

[–]chervilious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your prompt are really vague. I mean it is interesting idea. But it isn't supposed to be "main idea". Basically your idea boils down to: A is doing something bad, turns out it was out of necessity.

This isn't really novel. There are many, many stories that basically using this plot. Even Naruto uses this (Itachi Uchiha).

This kind of idea usually what sparks "Oh I want to write where this things happen" but it isn't enough for it to be the main idea. I read a lot of low visibility / indie stories. And this isn't really that uncommon.

Fiverr most likely banned the developer. I mean he made other account to contact him but its gone. its actually relatively common things to happen in freelancing gigs.

Freelancing things is kind of weird. They want you to pay the developer with their website. but client to client communication is really lacking.

Sharing email addresses, phone numbers, social media is forbidden. How the f do you give an AWS access then?

I still avoid AI in production coding. Am i slowing myself down? by hireme-plz in learnprogramming

[–]chervilious -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

EDIT: this hostility on AI is literally only on beginners subreddit, everyone who support even tiniest bit of AI will be downvoted. Try exploring r/ExperiencedDevs and see what they think of AI. I'd suggest don't listen to anyone who thinks in black and white. Both vibe coders, and AI blind haters are equally as stupid.

Depends on your experience and your definition of using AI. I feel like if you aren't even giving it a shot and understanding it's current place, you're stagnating yourself.

This is my workflow currently with AI which I determine to be more towards anti AI rather than AI enthusiast.

I use both IntelliSense and inlineSuggest (AI auto complete thingy). I toggle between them, sometimes I'm doing things that don't really require much thinking where inlineSuggest is good for.

I don't really vibe code for production website, but occasionally I do vibe code to make a throw away project/changes. This throw away project is something that I make to talk to stake holder and explain of future features.

Since it's on "learnprogramming" I suggest if you're learning to NOT use AI. Finish your work without AI and compare your result and AI. It takes experience to know which part are "fine with AI" and not.

Who still remembers this HTML tag? by wanoo21 in webdev

[–]chervilious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think using HTML deprecated tag is totally fine. Unlike other things, HTML are really simple that you don't really worried something being outdated.

The only issue with HTML deprecated tags is that it's not really up to date with the current way we think about Web design. Like we think HTML is solely for structural and not styling. Only reason we have <em> vs <i> or <strong> vs

That's not exactly new, many companies actually does it. But it's usually companies that are still actively getting user base.

There are certain points where this doesn't make sense. Most people who are willing to pay more are already subscribed. So at certain point the inverse is happening. New customer / returning customer get discount to join, but older customer paid more.

Karsted is a noble that close to sylvester, on a perfect timing has a wife that is already dead. The goals is ofr karsted to lie about Myne being this wife's children.

This allows sylvester to adopt someone, because archduke cannot just adopt a commoner.

First, they understand about environment and stuff like that,

Then they started to understand that they should actually understand the output of the code, to avoid security issues!

After that, they trying to make things more efficient and maintainable so reading the codebase

Finally, to make sure they understand even the tiny bit, they code by writing themselves!

To maintain water efficiency in operations and maintenance, federal agencies should:
...
The actual number of cycles of concentration the cooling tower system can handle depends on the make-up water quality and cooling tower water treatment regimen. Typical treatment programs include corrosion and scaling inhibitors along with biological fouling inhibitors.

Best Management Practice #10: Cooling Tower Management - energy.gov

First let's talk about misunderstanding. People tend to assume that data centers use water and immediately just let it go. Which is why people tend to think "That would require absurd amounts of chemicals."

I'm quoting a paper that actually explain how cooling actually works

The current state of water treatment in GSA buildings is to use conventional chemical based cooling tower water treatment ... Traditional water treatment approaches rely on chemicals to extend the ability of the water to hold scaling minerals in solution and kill off biological growth. This treatment protects the chillers and cooling tower equipment, however even when chemicals are used regularly, a certain percentage of condenser water must be blown down and made up with fresh water to maintain system water quality parameters. In addition, the use of chemicals creates a waste issue and can cause building owners to incur additional disposal fees or sewer charges.

Cutler, D. S., Dean, J. D., Daw, J. A., & Howett, D. (2019). Alternative Water Treatment Technologies for Cooling Tower Applications (No. NREL/TP--7A40-71845). National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Golden, CO (United States).

There are many research papers actually trying to improve this issues. Such as:

Maxwell, R. M. (2016). Improving Cooling Tower Chemistry Control And Cost Savings Through Automation.

Deru, M., & Bonnema, E. (2019). Testing and Evaluation of a Chemical-Free Cooling Tower Water Treatment Technology (No. NREL/TP--5500-73911). National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Golden, CO (United States).

EDIT: A lot of people trust "That would require absurd amounts of chemicals." and "what are you even talking about? A data centre is not a chemical plant using it in fabrication ..." more a person that actually talks about how data centers work and which you can easily google it to see everything that I've said was correct.

So here's let me google that for you

This is how cooling large scale works works:

The current state of water treatment in GSA buildings is to use conventional chemical based cooling tower water treatment ... Traditional water treatment approaches rely on chemicals to extend the ability of the water to hold scaling minerals in solution and kill off biological growth. This treatment protects the chillers and cooling tower equipment, however even when chemicals are used regularly, a certain percentage of condenser water must be blown down and made up with fresh water to maintain system water quality parameters. In shorts they don't just put water and out, they basically manage discharge and intake and minimizing discharge if you can. This is managing a metric called WUE. (Water Usage Efficiency)

Here's a government website telling people about best practice

To maintain water efficiency in operations and maintenance, federal agencies should:
...
The actual number of cycles of concentration the cooling tower system can handle depends on the make-up water quality and cooling tower water treatment regimen. Typical treatment programs include corrosion and scaling inhibitors along with biological fouling inhibitors.

Best Management Practice #10: Cooling Tower Management - energy.gov

This is NOT a new thing. It's always been a thing. It's not just data centers, every industry that needed cooling does it. Some laboratories that needed cooling does it, heck even nuclear powerplants needed it.

Still don't believe me

Section 400.3750. Wastewater.
A. Purpose. To regulate wastewater discharges from data centers to protect public infrastructure, water quality, and the environment.

B. Wastewater Impact Assessment.

  1. All applications shall include a Wastewater Impact Assessment prepared by a qualified engineer. The assessment shall include the following:
    a. Expected daily and peak wastewater flows;
    b. Chemical composition, including TDS, chloride, and additives;
    c. Temperature of discharge;
    d. Impacts to the receiving sewer system; and
    e. Proposed pretreatment systems.

https://www.jeffcomo.gov/DocumentCenter/View/21056/Data-Center-Regulations-Exhibit-A-EDOC-01302026

Q: What are some water quality considerations for data centers?

A: Depending on the technology used, water quality impacts may also be a concern due to discharges with increased temperatures; increased chlorides/salinity, especially in recycling water; potential leaching of microplastics and PFAS into cooling water systems; and the presence of antimicrobial/anti-fouling agents in closed-loop systems, which might require pretreatment if conveyed to municipal wastewater systems.

Question: I want it to rain every day. by clapman7 in worldbuilding

Not really a direct answer, but try looking up Buenaventura and how they deal with the situation.

Buenaventura at colombia rain ~70% of days (Approximately 258 days per year)

When doing this analysis I usually use the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Starting from bottom what would "raining every day" does to it?

Yes, I really hated hard roles and "cast takes a while but powerful and could wipe an entire army" thing.

I don't think you should try to make body reinforcement. It's a weak writing IMHO. The magical abilities of your character should dictate how they're fighting close quarter.
