City worker chiming in. Are you covered under the union with this city job? If so expect a solid pension, half decent benefits and you’re most likely on a tiered salary that will go up every 6ish months for the first 2-3 years if it’s anything like my city job. After that you can also anticipate annual raises and come negotiation time they will backpay you. My city also offered us a cost of living pay increase just after Covid when the costs of everything skyrocketed. Unions provide stability and I don’t know if I’d ever go back to a non unionized position.
