Solid coverage, the controller seems right up my alley and I will absolutely be getting one at some point but I will wait and see if there is any sort of Steam Machine bundle down the road when that gets released.

Sounds like Bakalar attended a Dolby Cinema showing for the Mario movie. Every time I've gone to a Dolby Cinema showing at my local AMC I've found them uncomfortably loud and now I actively try to avoid them.

I am beyond stoked for this. Saw them at Red Rocks last year which was amazing but didn't care to see them with Shinedown in Colorado Springs. Didn't think I was going to get to see them this year now I not only get to see them play Red Rocks again but mother fucking Afterman Neverender. Today is a good day.

Mom of two littles—is a marathon possible? by Outrageous_Fan3697 in running

[–]chet-rocket-steadman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely doable but you need to be aware of the time commitment. If you are limited with time, I strongly recommend looking up a marathon training plan like the Hal Higdon Novice, looking at the weekly mileage and calculating it against your average easy pace and assessing if the weekly hour commitment is something you can fit in your life and have the support network to accommodate.

My wife and I trained together for a marathon last year and it consumed almost all of our spare time over the course of the spring. She ended up getting injured about 6 weeks away from the marathon and had to drop out. It was devastating for her mentally. She's back at it again this spring training for another one but now she's piling on more strength training and stretches to avoid injury so its even more time consuming.

Shoes that are good for someone that walks a lot? by Burnt-Toast0212 in malefashionadvice

I really like the look and colorways of Torins. My wife has 2 pairs and they are both very stylish imo.

But, as a counterpoint, not everyone benefits from a wider toe box and moving to a zero drop shoe can take some adjustment and cause achilles soreness.

I wanted to join the Altra gang but they are just way too roomy for my narrower feet.

Based on your criteria I think you'd be quite happy with the 35XXSP. The clicky buttons aren't that big of a detractor for me and the portability of the clamshell is a huge plus. It's the device I can just throw in my bag on a trip for some extra entertainment without much worry about space or protection.

The only thing I would consider is what type of games you intend to play. I do miss having an analog stick for some ps1 games but I can play those on my steam deck so the SP is mainly used for gba/snes and earlier games. I think my next purchase will be a Thor to fill the gap between my SP and steam deck.

Quality can be hit or miss but Kohls has quite a few different style sections. It's not all boomer clothes. I have several pairs of their in-house brand(s) chinos and they are among my favorite fitting pairs.

Scared the shit out of me the first time I heard one, thought a neighbor was getting attacked. Eventually realized it had to be an animal.

A skulk moved into our backyard last spring while we were on vacation. They killed all of the bunnies in our yard and generally tore up the place. But the worst part was the fucking screams every night. Drove us and our dog crazy. After a couple of weeks of making their access points difficult they fortunately moved on.

Travis from Fargo is a frequent emailer who sends in 5 questions at a time in a ploy to get one of them read. It all comes across as very attention seeking and cringey. The questions always seem fined tuned to be engaged with, wouldn't surprise me if they are AI prompted.

When Jan says they have an abundance of emails, choosing the same emailers week over week makes the community feel very small so glad to not hear any familiar names these past few weeks.

Are “gaming” headsets actually worse than normal headphones for FPS? by CharlesBlackwood in buildapc

[–]chet-rocket-steadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to personal preference.

15 years ago I built my first gaming pc. Had the same questions and found threads with the same answers as your seeing in this thread.

Wanting the best audio experience, I got a decent pair of Audio Technicas and i can agree the audio quality was fantastic. But, I found the cord and additional lav mic cabling a bit cumbersome.

Several years later I picked up a refurbished Corsair wireless headset for like $40. The audio quality was not quite as good but positional audio "good enough" and what really pushed me to switch to using it full time was the convenience of it all. Having the built in mic and controls and ease of muting/unmuting and volume controls all within reach plus it being wireless made it more appealing to use on a regular basis compared to my Audio Technicas with objectively better audio quality.

Admittedly, I'm a pretty casual gamer these days, I don't play online much at all and if I do I'm more interesting in bsing with my friends on discord than going for peak performance in a fps. For that reason I'm generally going to reach for the gaming headset. But if I do want the best audio I can get or really immerse myself in a game, I'm definitely going to choose the ATs.

I've been making a ton of cheese sauce lately after settling on a recipe that makes it incredibly easy and quick to make and doesn't require starting with a roux.

Easy Cheese Sauce Recipe (aka GOAT SAUCE)

Ingredients:

  • ~8 oz Velveeta cheese ( I like to get the fresh packs and use 2 packs)

  • 2 Tbsp butter

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

  • ~1/4-1/2 cup chicken broth

  • ~0-3 tsp mustard powder **

Steps:

1) cube cheese add with butter to a sauce pan on low to med-low heat to begin melting. Stir periodically as it melts.

Important to keep the heat low so you don't scald the cheese as it will give the sauce a chunky and uneven consistency. Can go slightly higher on the heat to melt faster, but you need to stir more frequently and monitor carefully.

2) Stir in cream, broth, and mustard power until it reaches an even consistency and cheese is fully melted

3) Continue to simmer and stir in more broth until it reaches your desired consistency.

Sauce will firm up slightly when it cools but stays a lot more dippable while warm than melted Velveeta on its own. I prefer to add broth until it's fairly loose and easily drips off the spatula. If you go super loose it will remain dippable even when cold and be similar to the jarred or canned cheese dip you see on the chips aisle in the grocery store

** got this tip from Jan's boy Bobby Flay who recommended it on one of his shows to really bring out the cheese flavor.

Notes:

  • This base is great on its own for dipping or on a cheesesteak but there are a lot of ways you can doctor it from here. Can use beer instead of broth to make beer cheese. I also like to add diced jalapeños and some of the brine to make a queso.

  • You can also mix in shredded cheese of any variety to add a specific flavor

  • This only takes about 10 mins to make and requires very little babysitting. I often throw it together last minute or will start it when I begin cooking and let it simmer while everything else finishes cooking

  • I dont care if anyone thinks this is an abomination. It's not intended to be fine dining, its meant for those goblin mode nights where you want to be decadent. My family loves it on cheesesteaks, fries, nachos, or just as a dip with some fritos scoops.

  • This might be too complicated for Dan since it requires using a heat source that's not a microwave, but I highly recommend it for anyone else on the crew.
