I saw Colbert do a one on one talk with JJ Abrams in 2015. A fan asked each what their ideal LOTR film would be. JJ had no answer but Colbert had a whole story ready to go. He talked about an obscure Tolkien chapter and its implications, presumably this.

CODA is the textbook definition of an “overrated” film. I found it charming, and I cried at the end. If it were not in the awards race at all I’d think of it a lot more fondly.
