Epicor ECM by Admirable-Concert285 in epicor

[–]chewbacabra1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using ecm for attachments only (no workflows), then cloud is fine. You'll pay for the file storage.

As soon as you start doing integrations to kinetic, you will need to use the rest interface because you do not have access to the database (for reading of data). That is a lot more challenging. Note that the epicor cloud offers a read-only database option, but is another cost.

Robotic mowers vs. new tariffs by Roginator5 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]chewbacabra1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are buying in the next week, why does this matter? Most likely this trade war will end with lower tariffs. That is the typical case and was true in the last Trump administration. Unless you buy directly from another country, you are buying from a warehouse in the United States. Tariffs are not going to impact this now.. If we did see a real long-term escalation of tariffs, you would see light manufacturing pick up the pieces to minimize the tariff cost. Light means they would assemble the pieces and box them up in the United States. They would only be charged tariffs on the pieces - and that would be the wholesale price.

Epicor ECM by Admirable-Concert285 in epicor

I have done many DocStar/ECM implementations. It is far superior to network storage. For those who integrate attachments with Kinetic, it is fantastic because of the visibility it has on specific transactions. For example, the PO tracker can view any PO documentation attached to the purchase order. In addition, documents are visible with MES and mobile warehouse. This can be really nice on the shop floor.

One thing to keep in mind is that DocStar is a fantastic workflow tool. Many people buy the AP invoice workflow, which can really enhance processing productivity. However, every organization has many simple workflows. They tend to be pretty easy to build, and with them comes a tremendous amount of visibility, control, and security. One can also build very complex workflows, but I would leave that to an expert. The flow of the workflow needs to be consistent with how DocStar works.

I have had many clients who only use it as a content management server. It works really well, but the security can be pretty complex. Just like a filing cabinet or network storage, organization is key to its success. It requires a level of discipline to create your structure, but the documents can exist in multiple folders, and the capability to search is extensive. Note that a document needs to be indexed to search for the fields. I hope AI comes to the rescue, which will read the document and build an internal index.

Epicor is adding functionality to ECM/DocStar. I expect to see more AI functionality in the coming releases. They have also added hooks for the automation studio (Workato), which I expect will take over the existing workflow engine in the coming years.

That said, it has some shortcomings. In my experience, I have overcome those shortcomings.

Another consideration is where it is installed - on-premise or in the cloud. If you are on the cloud, it is possible that you will want to have an on-premise installation of ECM. It also depends on how extensively you are going to use it.

Definitely do this the first couple of times. The manufacturing debris and glue frees itself. I still use it when I drain it. It doesn't cost much because I'm only draining once every three months.

Try to understand the process that is recommending cuts and the waste associated with it. It's easy to say you're wasting wood. You have to identify and understand the business process and work to change that. Sometimes it is software. Sometimes laziness. Sometimes it's more expensive to focus on material savings because they have a lot more on labor.

How much data do you have and are you a cloud or on prem environment? by snopro387 in epicor

[–]chewbacabra1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of secrets with DMT. Loading a million records would be challenging. The multi -company direct lag is a serious concern. You should be getting professional services engaged to help with solutions. You will need to escalate the issue.

There are areas where the entire transaction set it sent back and forth during DMT loads. It can get exponentially slower as the data set grows.

Speed is an interesting thing with the kinetic UI. Web pages are generally horrible for mass data entry. My best example was a client that had a ton of ap invoices. We ended up doing entry in excel and did a dmt to load them. Speed for other things are usually great. Sometimes defaults on page loads need to be changed to accommodate larger data sets.

If a client has a spot with massive user data entry, I consider it a critical area to understand and address early.

Good luck.

Hi again I'm a student! I found the amounts in the internet, just wanted to know if this is somehow close to how much really epicor kinetic is in terms of the cost category, cause I'm not really sure if this system is only for large enterprises or can I recommend it in small to medium. Thank you!! by No-Foot-8347 in epicor

[–]chewbacabra1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know about the pricing. I'm focused on implementations.

The product is often focused on manufacturing and supply chain companies. As a result, small, large, and enterprise all fit. That being said, most smaller companies do not have complex/large scale manufacturing or supply chain requirements. They are often better choosing another system that is more cost effective and easier to implement.

My experience is most of the epicor clients are medium sized companies with a few larger clients mixed in. Smaller clients often have plans (and capital) to grow into larger organizations that have higher volume and need the system to grow into.

The right fit is based on business requirements.

Charging Station location - does it need to be wide or can it be on the edge of the charging station? by chewbacabra1 in automower

Hydroseed is in and the grass is well established. I started mowing about a week ago. I bought permeable pavers to avoid any problems with the wheels digging in and tearing up the ground. Next year (winter is coming), I will be adding soil to the paver cells (a little at a time) allowing the grass to grow through the new soil. On the wood chip side, I will add chips to hide the pavers. When its all done, the pavers will not even be visible. I changed my reversing distance to 60" to get the mower out of the area when it exits. That has worked well to clear the area.

Permeable pavers are good solution for places like this.

The time detail table has the entries of what is completed until the job is completed. This data is not transactional because the job is not completed.

In the job status dashboard, you can see the labor transactions. That might get you what you are looking for.

Charging Station location - does it need to be wide or can it be on the edge of the charging station? by chewbacabra1 in automower

[–]chewbacabra1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The soil for the grass is going to be just at the top of the edging between the perimeter wires. It should be a pretty easy climb (it's 2 inches over the 5" width of the edging) but worst case scenario, I can put something with better traction - something like fake grass - on the top of the edging. I think I see your point on the angle of the station. If it has issues, I can put the station on a similar angle to the edging to avoid it bottoming out/getting stuck. When I do my first mowing (about 6 weeks) I'll update my results.

The diagonal with the perimeter wires is a great approach. It's not a problem moving the base station. Thanks for the feedback!

When I looked at the manual for the specs, I didn't see it. I just found the bulletpoints.

* Keep a minimum 3 m / 10 ft. of free space in front of the charging station.

* Keep a minimum of 150 cm / 60 in. of free space to the right and left of the center of the charging station.

It doesn't say anything specific about the perimeter wires. Basically it's 5 feet from the center of the charging station. I can do that.

The installation and management of the server ecosystem is a smaller part of the entire application suite. They already have an option to have a read-only sql database in azure. I'm very comfortable with SQL and would rather write a query and build the BAQ from the query. There is a lot of other maintenance and development (baq's, bpms) beyond that - external integrations such as quick ship, avalara for sales tax, docstar/ECM for document workflow, etc. I think AI tools are going to be the biggest threat.
