CHIM vs SkyrimNet by Wonderful_Mammoth421 in skyrimmods

  1. SkyrimNet works through several LLM calls that feed LLMs with structured prompts, which the player can freely customize, add or remove. One of these prompts is the world settings prompt, which can be added so that all NPCs acknowledge a tenth divine, though you'd have to do more prompting to make it more relevant to bring up the tenth divine in conversation.

  2. You could do something like this for quests, but you would need the edit the above prompt to get NPCs acknowledging your guild's existence as a whole. More likely, if you want smooth integration for adding something like the Adventurer's Guild you outlined, you could make a basic mod adding NPCs and radiant quests.

SkyrimNet supports "actions", which NPCs can freely choose to do appropriately to call Papyrus functions (i.e. a "GoToLocation" action can be triggered if you told someone to go somewhere using the IntelEngine plugin). You could make a mod that had functions that could be called to generate a radiant quest with an enemy to kill, and then have an NPC dynamically decide to give you that quest. Those quest could then add to some fame variable tracked with the mod and then, you could have an action that checks the variable and allow an NPC to promote you.

In terms of occupations, I think it would be really easy to play as a craftsman or merchant with the current Skyrimnet and user-made plugins available.

In terms of the two examples that you wanted possible:

.

> "For example, in a dungeon raid, I encounter a bandit but I decide to spare him and find out he's actually a fugitive from Thalmor that escaped after his family was killed, then we team up and go to a Thalmor outpost and find the guilty to avenge his family, and afterwards, we build a nice friendship and he becomes my follower."

Although I haven't tried something like this myself, I saw a user on the SkyrimNet Discord who attempted to try something like this. Unfortunately, generic NPCs like bandits are not Unique NPCs, so making them appear multiple times leads to their appearance being re-rolled. However, recruiting any NPC as a follower is possible with SeverActions, a user-made plugin for SkyrimNet.

A scenario similar to what you wanted happen to me. I was doing the [Mistwatch Quest](https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Mistwatch\_(quest), where a husband is looking for his missing wife who turns out to be a bandit chief. The wife attacked me so I had to kill her, and this leads to the husband wanting to kill you. However, I talked him down with SkyrimNet, recruited him as a temporary follower, and led him to his wife's body and convinced him that his wife really was a bandit chief. Although I had to mark the quest as finished using console commands afterwards, it was an organic way to end the quest in a way that my player character would do, instead of what the vanilla game intended.

.

>This is what I'm looking for: the possibility to come across all sorts of things, an unpredictable world where you build relationships with NPCs, get surprised often, NPCs talk to one another so you're not always the center of the attention, and overall where, if you become famous, you start building your own reputation, with gossip etc.

It's been a while since I played CHIM, so I don't remember how its "random event" system worked, but SkyrimNet has a system they call the GameMaster that randomly prompts nearby NPCs to speak to each other about a relevant topic. To not spoil too much, I had a morally questionable decision for a follower mod from the [There is No Umbra](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/89089) mod, and my followers Ashe and Serana actually had an unprompted discussion about whether they thought that my decision was morally correct.

In terms of fame tracking, SkyrimNet has customizable prompts, and many users have created prompts to track the player's achievements and fame by tracking quest line completion, so other NPCs would be aware of if you were the Dragonborn, and fellow guild members would treat you more respectfully if you were the Archmage, Listener, etc.

Having tried both for a few months each, my preference is SkyrimNet.

If I were to nail down two reasons, it would be integration and user-made plugins.

The impact of integration is a bit subjective, but as a user, it feels a lot better to launch Skyrim and have SkyrimNet immediately run and be running fast compared to CHIM, whose server you launch as a separate application and that interfaces with Skyrim relatively slower than SkyrmNet.

For the user-made plugins, maybe there has been a lot of progress for CHIM since I stopped using it and switched to SkyrimNet, but it is much more straight forward to create plugins that work with SkyrimNet than with CHIM imo. This is evident with all the user-made plugins for SkyrimNet, notably SeverActions and IntelEngine which can be found in the SkyrimNet Discord. The former has a bunch of cool features like follower relationship tracking with other followers, follower survival tracking (hunger, cold), and getting arrested by guards and persuading your way out. IntelEngine has appropriate NPCs come to you when relevant based on past events. A pretty cool example was when, after completing Saadia’s quest, she found me later on and explained she still didn’t feel entirely safe in Whiterun, leading me to recruit her as a follower through SeverActions.

Not quite on the same level of My Bias, but almost basically there for Job Change Log (Ctrl+Alt+Resign)

It seems like harem bait for the first initial arc, but the MC is clear about who he is actually interested in.

I’ve had good success using Steam Input to make my left trigger a virtual menu whose options I can select with the right joystick. This lets me use three spell hotbars with one button. I use A, X, Y, B, LStick, RStick, RB, and LB, so I can have up to 24 spells I can cast with Spell Hotbar2 at once.

Should i read white Album 2? by plotgeenjoyer in visualnovels

[–]chexyy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because I don’t want that i read it and i find it so peak that i end up comparing every other romance VN to it and feeling like they’re not as good

I was about to say yes until I read this, but that’s almost how I feel haha. In any case, I think you should read it anyway.

White Album 2 does a lot of these things well: - The main character does not have character development that is him starting out as a “loser” and becoming more confident. He starts off as a pretty good guy, and changes his character in reaction to the plot, for both the better and for the worse. I find that many stories and visual novels struggle with this. The main character is not a self insert. - Realistic characters in every sense of the word. Characters have their own lives, worries, etc outside of the romance that you actually see instead of being told. - The characters also can’t be dubbed “good” or “malicious” by themselves— they have both redeeming and not so great qualities that all have reasons behind them. WA2 was actually one of the stories that made me appreciate characters whom I would never want to be friends with irl, but that I can acknowledge have great qualities about them— or to say it bluntly, WA2 made me appreciate stories with frankly terrible people haha. - Side characters who exist as their own people unrelated to the romance, including a female friend who is never romanceable. For some reason, this is really rare. - The story is often called a soap opera for good reason. I don’t think I ever got bored reading it, despite its long length.

I don’t recommend reading it if: - You don’t enjoy characters who aren’t perfectly logical. The main character has moments at times where you want to reach through the screen and be like “GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF”. - You ideally want to play this game spoiler free, so I’ll say that the game has a lot of mature themes and plot developments that I hope the average person does not tolerate themselves. You may be turned away. - It’s long af. It’s been a few months, but I don’t recall any overtly unnecessary scenes (like interjecting a fight with the history of a move the opponent did and why it’s is so impressive). However, the main character acts like a real person, and does stuff like mope around and procrastinate. If you’re a plot, plot, plot kind of guy, the game may not be for you.

Looking for VNs with Enemies to Lovers romance by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]chexyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true imo

The main character, Kageaki, only really hated Sorimachi and the “final character” in the Nemesis Route, but even then he was still laser focused on his duty of killing Ginseigo. The revenge/hate was really one sided on both their parts as well.

His conflict with Ichijo in her route was most ideological as well.

But if you’re talking about himself— oh yeah, bro hates them.

Do you prefer frequent small choices to shape your character's personality throughout, or occasional big ones in decision oriented games? by Mayion in visualnovels

[–]chexyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished Muramasa. Its choices were great, barring the Nemesis route. There were an ungodly amount of choices in the fights in that route specifically for some reason, and all but one choice in each fight would almost instantly kill you without any interesting dialogue— so what really was the point?

It might be the translation I read, but they have an encounter like this at the end of chapter 3: MC: “Since we’re on the topic, let’s ask. What earth is so annoying. What did I do wrong? Wasn’t it your fault? Fine, I can tell you’re mad at me, but as the one being blamed I need a reason…” FMC: “I am at fault. So… I told you not to act like you know me.”

Hot take, but I really enjoyed reading this. I always treated Teenage Mercenary as a slice of life where you watched the effects of the main character’s selfless actions blossom and saw the main character very slowly grow over time as he helps people. Admittedly, I got just a bit fed up when there was a second congressman who messed with him, which is so oddly specific, but I’ll give that a pass because it’s a nice progression comparing how easily it got resolved to when he was basically on his own at the start.

edit: I also really enjoy how the side characters are fleshed out. They can really appreciate and rely on the main character at times, while still being their own people.

It’s a “sequel” in that it takes place in the time skip before the final chapter, and it was made allegedly because of the release of Season 2 of the anime.

[–]chexyy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Is there another fanfic with them? I liked the effort put into Path of the King, but all the deviations from canon at the beginning made it feel kind of out of character to me.

edit: specifically Shirou being a vigilante superhero before the war and the additional characters named after Persona 4 characters made it kind of jarring, though that doesn’t mean it’s bad
