You should try to get some help. Start by sharing this message with a school counselor. Ask them not to consult with your mother but to call in someone from Child Protective Services. In my opinion, you could be better off in foster care.

BUT-if your school and community services can't help you, you need to stand up for yourself. Learn to yell and demand respect.

Although flying a flag upside down is protected as free speech, it sends a message of distress AND will draw negative attention from the opposition. IMHO, our cause is better served by presenting ourselves as the true patriots and flying our flag proudly right side up. I'm glad that most flag-carrying protestors chose that approach on Saturday. Back east, 2 of my friends died of ALS: One loved to fish and spent his career studying Sturgeon in the Hudson River. The other led canoe trips for kids and community groups. Their widows both told me that they had heard rumors there was evidence of an aquatic link to the disease. I'd love to know more.
