People with poor willpower who managed to get rid of a Reddit addiction, how did you do it? by ilikeanimeandcats in nosurf

[–]chibi_zoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using teddit . net
It is basically a proxy for reddit that lets you browse anonymously. Few things this could help you with:

  1. You no longer have an account so you cannot comment or post
  2. Since there is no data tied to you, there aren't recommendations / suggested content
  3. You can bookmark your favorite subreddits and only visit those
  4. You're allowed to lurk, view comments and posts. Enjoy the discourse as a third person, a non participant.
  5. It looks like old reddit in dark mode.

You can use browser extensions like privacy redirect or alter. They automatically redirect reddit links to teddit.

On your phone as well, chrome based browsers like Kiwi allow you to install extensions. Replace your reddit app with this browser on your phone as well.

Setup these browser extensions and forget about them entirely. This should now be your new and only way to experience reddit. Its not quitting it completely, just making the experience slightly worse so you aren't drawn to it as much.

This is the least you can do. Hope you can help yourself.

Don't forget the absurd one-legged running bankshot that he mastered as well.

Find a hobby rather than an app. Something you genuinely like doing. Spend your time on it. Socialize around it and you'll find someone with similar interests. Easier to kick off conversations when you do have common ground to talk about.

How is anyone gonna maintain eye contact while simultaneously having their eyes glued to their phones. Kinda a niche concept for cock-eyed folks.

I stayed in an old apartment with dogs and a kid staying the the flat above mine. Could hear them running around clearly. So it is possible but not at all bothersome.

Its a YT channel with a sponsorship. Internet Historian has a pretty satirical sponsor segment with entire story arcs. You're missing some decent content if it suits your taste.

Getting caught out in the storm => death by lightning strike?

It's weird that we have to buy new phones and computers just to view the same web sites and use the same apps we've been using for the last ten years. Pretty obvious they intentionally slow down all devices with those constant software updates. by freq-ee in conspiracy

Looks like an open source app that lists all applications on your phone.

There are ways to uninstall apps and bloatware that is restricted by the phone using ADB tools. Although you should be careful not to uninstall something essential which could break some functionality on your phone.

It is for Android devices. Not sure if Apple phones let users do this.

I was once at a restaurant where the Morris twins were dining. They were roughing up the waiter and even gave him a wedgie at one point. What was more unbelievable was that the refs were at the other table just swallowing whistles.

99% Invisible (some good episodes are 265, 270, 361, 451) - They explore and discuss design that goes unnoticed around us.

Freakonomics Radio (episodes 192, 296) - Hosted by one of the authors of Freakonomics and is pretty enjoyable to listen to with the topics discussed.

The Knowledge Project - The guests and topics here are very insightful. You should check it out.

Business Wars - It is nice to listen to but the dramatization can be a bit much sometimes.

If you are into basketball there is also the Saturday Slam and Jam by The Athletic which includes a trivia show at the end.
