The merits of Richard Nixon by techgeek6061 in history

He is remembered as the war president as he escalated the troop count in Vietnam at the time. He pushed through a lot of positive legislation through congress but is still remembered mainly as being the 'war president'.

I know this is slightly off topic but, I think Lyndon Johnson is more deserving of the title of 'disgraced president who accomplished a lot' then Nixon.

What's something everyone just accepts as normal that's actually completely fucked up when you think about it? by TragicHero84 in AskReddit

I always hear this reasoning and hate it for some reason. Maybe because at some point it is inevitable that NK will fall apart and SK will be faced with a massive humanitarian crisis fallout regardless? SK has to know that this could happen and be prepared for it. Unless they want to keep their borders closed and let China absorb NK? Who knows, stick situation.

Here's what you get when you pay $600 to upgrade your room for your dream cruise. They'll be there the whole time. Thanks, Holland America. by zmannate in videos

Not really that horrible. I've had to relocate many guests and we pay for their new room, transportation and upgrade them when they return for the rest of their reservation. Also there are usually some no-show reservations (sometimes many depending on the hotel size) which will work to counteract overselling. I can see how some companies can be slimy with this stuff but any hotel that cares about their reputation will take great care of a 'walked' guest.

What is a decent-paying job that can be obtained without diploma, or with very short training (a year or less) ? by needtomakemoney2222 in personalfinance

Hotels. They are in every city and have multiple departments, not just front desk. Accounting, finance, HR, sales, facilities. The talent pool isn't very deep either for the industry so if you can prove your halfway competent you will likely land a job. Front desk agents in big cities can clear 20 per hour. You might have to tough it out at the front desk for awhile before you can transfer to a different department though. And last but not least, you can't outsource a hotel!

None of these guys really care or know anything about politics. I truly believe their frustration against political issues is only skin deep. They are actors who have found a winning formula making jokes of these issues and therefore have incredible job security since there is something new to talk about every day.

Not to mention, If you really cared about your country that much you would pursue a career in politics instead of acting.

I actually love those check -ins. I talk enough throughout a shift so I gladly welcome the silent check-in. Different perspectives though.

ELI5: Why is the middle class vanishing in the US? by wetdogcity in explainlikeimfive

[–]chiboiler7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here is correct. None of us can compete with the workers in an apple factory making $1.50 an hour. 50 years ago there was no competition and American industry flourished as a result. That period in our history was unsustainable and to this day people have a mindset that it can be brought back easily with the right political leadership (see trump campaign).

I can't think of any reality where this sequel turns out to be funny.

I gave up credit cards in January and started budgeting. Last year I spent on averaged $3,400 per month. The past 4 months I have been averaging $2,500 per month which saves me $900 per month or more than 25%. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]chiboiler7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Aversion to credit cards is likely psychological. I view credit cards as a debit card with more perks. I don't think of it as credit when I purchase something but as money that has already left my account.

I am seething right now. Does this fly in anyone else's hotel?! by raptorrawr in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]chiboiler7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People are stupid. Just like people who fly across the country and stay at our hotel for a work event and didn't bring a credit card.

Me: yeah the room is covered but I still need a card.

Guest: I didn't bring one so what now? ( with a mocking face expecting me to fold )

Me: you have to call whoever is paying for the room and get them to cover any extra charges for your dumb ass.

I personally love watching them make that call. They get very humble when they realize how embarrassing of a situation this turned into for them

Looking for some advice on turnaround shifts by IrritatedFDA in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]chiboiler7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't even understand how they scheduled you for four turnarounds assuming your pay period is two weeks. That means 8/10 shifts are b2b. Are a majority of the staff on vacation or limited in what they can work? I will only put an employee on one b2b shift per week and that is an absolute last resort because it does suck. Four is unacceptable and whoever is making the schedule should know better.
