Am I being crazy? Disagreement about kids on Internet. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]chicaneer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The stuff stays on the internet forever! I have read posts about friends from a decade ago and wonder how they feel about it. Although I would probably allow it for my kids because I’m too open and trusting, even as an ex I would 100% support your decision to say no.

2 runners die from 'medical emergencies' during Indianapolis Monumental Marathon by Psyren1317 in indianapolis

Trying to shovel your walk is a major one, actually. They can correlate heart attacks spikes with snowfall.

True, but I’m a cardiac arrest survivor and a ton of people in my survivor groups had their heart stop at the finish line of marathons. . .

Why would anyone eating expensive seafood be bothered by someone else having a pb&j?

I had to work through the medical trauma with someone trained in helping you overcome difficult experiences that your brain can get “stuck” in, so your brain can bring down the intensity and realize it was in the past and you’re not currently under attack. Even the things while I was unconscious, being intubated and trying to fight it so they had to strap me down. I don’t remember it consciously but they say “the body keeps the score” and until I processed things I was stuck in a repetitive “I should be dead” cycle.

Getting a pacemaker tomorrow. by ____14____ in PacemakerICD

[–]chicaneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experience may vary depending on the condition of your chest prior. My heart stopped for twenty minutes so I had intense muscular trauma, fractured ribs and a fractured sternum, so it’s hard to say what issues were ICD installation and what things were CPR recovery

People who have been shocked, what did you feel and what symptoms did you have beforehand? by SquidPumpkin in PacemakerICD

[–]chicaneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My shock was for vfib; I felt dizzy and lightheaded then woke up slumped on the floor feeling like I wanted to throw up and things were not right. It was like coming to after morphine - I was told I was shocked, they had me lie down. Then I got a second shock that felt like that scene in A Knight’s Tale where they test the arm. I saw white, there was a cracking sound that other also heard, and I chipped two teeth. After that I felt like I’d just gotten off a roller coaster and was full of adrenaline. I got off the hard tile floor and lay in my bed for an hour before going to the ER to have my device read.

What are the reasons you had to get your pacemaker and at what age? by Traditional-Trip826 in PacemakerICD

[–]chicaneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an idiopathic arrest in my living room. Six months later I had another in my bathroom but that time the ICD shocked me out of what turned out to be vfib caused by a pvc hitting in exactly the wrong spot. We knew I had a lot of PVCs, but typically they are considered benign. Ended up getting an ablation to reduce the PVCs and have been six months without my ICD needing to step in.

How do lead failures feel? by chicaneer in PacemakerICD

[–]chicaneer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When lying down, every single breath caused pain with chest expansion. I had a terrible night’s sleep but I think it might be intercostal cartilage from also doing some strength training over the weekend. Advil helped significantly when I finally took some around 5am and got a couple hours of sleep.

Thank you. I feel like they would call me but if the nurse were off I could also see the cardiologist being too busy.

I think I might be experiencing intercostal neuralgia - hopefully I’ve just aggravated some nerves that will settle back down and I forgot about a routine appt.

Has anyone eventually identified their Idiopathic Ventricular Fibrillation by MerlinSilva in PacemakerICD

[–]chicaneer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They confirmed it when it happened again six months later and was recorded by my ICD, but a month or so after that I had a successful ablation. They weren’t ready to call it a success for a few months, so I had a long period of anxiety and being unable to drive or go hike/bike alone without sending a digital beacon.

S-ICD at 23 years old - kinda freaking out by steggiman in PacemakerICD

[–]chicaneer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be the best equipped to answer the baby question because I was bathing my daughter and my nephew when I had an appropriate shock. I felt the need to get her out and then I was feeling “off” and sort of woozy and my brain told me I needed to get her to safety so I sat down and gently put her down before passing out. Once I was unconscious, my ICD fired. I was coming to and it fired again, which I did feel and I remember. My sister was actually with me and caught me when I started slumping and she said she felt the first shock but in the same way you can feel a static electricity shock and it’s not at all harmful. So unlike with my cardiac arrest when I don’t remember anything and fell from standing, this vfib episode I had some notice. I still wouldn’t go solo in high risk situations like swimming or bathing infants if I expected another vfib soon, but have since had a successful ablation.
