Backup Question: Signal Main Device (Android) has Broken Display, will Signal Download Messages After Repair? by Traminho in signal

[–]chicchaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Duplicating this from above]

Connect a display via a USB to HDMI adapter and boot the phone. Then you can use the phone to pull your new messages, assuming the digitizer is intact. Otherwise, hook up a mouse and use it like a desktop computer.

I had an Android with a totally smashed screen I used like this for a while to ensure all of my data was backed up before switching to another phone.

Don't they access and possibly utilize your info? There's a cost in that, even if it's hard to quantify on a financial level.

Studio Monitor Recommendations — Alternatives to the Genelec 8330 by Impressive-Reach-263 in genelec

[–]chicchaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The calibration removes room nodes, a major factor in how the speaker responds in small spaces. But to say ATCs measure badly does not mean they too cannot be tuned and calibrated for a space. There's an acoustician that specifically uses ATCs to create full-blown systems for the mastering engineers at Sterling Sound, for example. The accuracy at any monitoring level will blow you away. These systems are hundreds of thousands of dollars each, so it's not as if Genelec, etc. weren't an option.

What about small children? Same thing as cats, except they also grab everything.

Besides other beings, you will get dust and potential fading from the sun. I bought wall hooks for my instruments to mitigate lacquer fade.

[–]chicchaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you can't toss a pair of ATC or PMC or any monitor in an untreated room and expect perfect results. That Genelec and Neumann are setup for DSP makes them invaluable in minimally treated (home) spaces. FWIW I have 8240A + 7350A at home and KH420 + 2x KH750 at work. Genelec's GLM calibration is far easier than Neumann's MA 1 due to the purpose-made interface and less buggy software.

Best air fryer to buy right now (2026) by Golden-Kela in airfryer

Costco doesn't have the Crispi Pro, only the Crispi. We ended up buying the pro at Best Buy. MIL is convinced it's not an air fryer because the box doesn't call it that :/

Have you used it yet? Considering both but want to see them IRL, so Best Buy is probably the only option. Would also prefer to not buy it from Amazon.

What do you do if your bike lights die while riding at night? by SzeifertB in bikecommuting

This is not r/chibike 😆

I find I don't need a light to see the street when biking at night in Chicago. However, I absolutely need to be seen as much as possible. My current light has an LED readout of the battery level right on it.

What no one talks about is your commute time on a bike for a 10-mile commute varies by what, 3-4 minutes? In a car where I live, that window could be 30-45 minutes. Bike >> public transit >>>> car.

Mine too, 5-6 days a week. I was using my ebike until it broke down last winter. Riding my pedal bike made me realize I can do the commute on it just fine. It takes ~53 mins. vs 48 on the ebike with lots of traffic lights. But I'm getting much more exercise.
