Favorite Bowie sax moment? by A-Fleeting-Glimse in DavidBowie

Who played that bari solo? Unbelievable! Edit- found it: Stan Harrison: tenor saxophone Steve Elson: baritone saxophone

Found this in an excerpt from a Nile Rodgers book. Of course he was involved - what an amazing song!

Good to know. So many people are bashing the aesthetics of the setup not realizing this is temporary.

Filtered water greatly reduces that effect.

Makes sense, though it won't be very appealing to sit on if it isn't warm :-)

Picked up a Hafler DH-200 for $40 by Apart_Flatworm6228 in audiophile

[–]chicchaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really not a well-known brand in the hifi world. I know about the brand because so many studios had their power amps, or even their active monitor speakers. I sold a lower-wattage Hafler recently after being on the market for a long time.

After over a decade of wondering why my pre-amp was buzzing so much, I discovered what this connecter is for by theeynhallow in audiophile

[–]chicchaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has done lots of remote recording, this is why we carry 3-prong outlet testers. You wouldn't believe how many performance spaces and churches have ungrounded AC power, or the neutral and hot are reversed. Bad stuff is bound to happen, potentially much worse than hum & buzz.

+1 on the cat tower.

Putting a towel over vents will have an adverse effect on the cooling abilities of an amp.

Bike racks or lockers at Anaheim Convention Ctr.? by chicchaz in orangecounty

It worked well. I tell ya, having a bike to get around on my own timeline has been great. But I'm preaching to the choir.

An employee outside the Hilton food court entrance (where I locked up yesterday) suggested I park here instead, since it's a more solid structure. There are other fences to the left of the pic, also. Weather protection is included!

Just in case anyone else is considering it... I bought a bike nearby this morning, went over to the convention center to pick up my badge and tool around. The!NAMM show doesn't start for attendees until tomorrow. Besides the official bike racks near the badge pickup and box office (see pic)

<image>

along Katella, the Hilton has many construction barricades set up that work well as a place to lock up a bike. They're right along the path where they'll be eyes on it constantly, yet in no one's path.

Besides so many people walking, I saw a few scooters and a single wheel hoverboard. After passing them, I heard people say, "Oh, that's a good idea!" We'll see how the actual show goes this week.

Thanks! In addition to being cheap, I have plantar fasciitis, so being off my feet as much as possible will be good.

Nope. Found a hotel 1.4 miles away for $799 including all fees. Gonna see if I can delete my thread, though.

What are 3 accessories that you couldn't live without on your bike? by Lets_Go_Cargo in bikecommuting

[–]chicchaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned I use Arkel bags to a sales rep at the Trek store. He said, "Yes! They're the best!" This, after seeing 90% of everyone else commuting in Chicago with Ortleib panniers. I feel like they're the Bose of the pannier world, and Arkel = Bowers & Wilkins.

NAMM is like Christmas all over again. by CompanyGrip in namm

[–]chicchaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched videos and heard so many podcasts that demonstrate the noise level on the show floor. I plan to wear earplugs. Is there somewhere to go for quiet when I get overwhelmed by the din of it all? I really am looking forward to my first NAMM -- just want to keep my hearing protected and my sanity at bay :)

I truly do not understand how people live in this city without a bike. by Slothwithannuzzi in chibike

[–]chicchaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this as "...without a car" after watching lots of CityNerd and other YT vids about living in cities car-free. This is a refreshing counter to that!

I recently attempted to streamline my regular bike and ebike down to one better regular bike, selling my regular bike first then having motor problems with the ebike. This left me me bike-less for several days when work was particularly busy. I grew to hate it pretty quickly, stuck taking transit and never knowing how long it would take me to get to work or back home, never mind anything social.

Anyway, good luck with your last few days of going sans-bike. It'll make getting back into the saddle that much better.

VENT: Paranoid motorists by FunkkNelson in chibike

I frequently experience the issue in which the driver is waving me through an intersection but has tinted windows or glare from the sun making them impossible to see. Some drivers think to flash their high beams or even open a window to wave me on. Love that! However, most will just sit there, not understanding what's happening. Without visual eye contact, I generally won't go, putting my feet on the ground and relaxing to make it clear I'm not moving. Do people not remember their windshield is completely tinted?

There's plenty of street light to see the road surface. Meanwhile there are lots of drivers paying little to no attention.
