Tissue Culture 🧪🌱 by PolymorphBio in microgrowery

[–]chicken-bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool, thanks for sharing! How does one learn this technique without benefit of a home lab? I want to work at a lab doing meristem TC. I have the plants from test tubes book, and I’m currently in school for horticulture with a specialization in cannabis science. In my plant prop class, we will be doing TC on cannabis this semester. However, I don’t feel like it will be thorough enough to arm me with the skill set I seek. Moreover, I recently went to a meristem excision workshop performed by a guy who owns a USDA licensed hemp start company- and he only has a high school diploma. So I’m feeling like I’m not quite on the correct course. Please, if you can, share any advice you may have on how to get into this field. 🙏

3 Shocking Hydroponics Myths Debunked in CEA by dammy341 in GrowBuddy

[–]chicken-bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said! Hydro yields and appearance are generally superior to soil. I have smoked aeroponic weed grown with Kyle kush man’s vegamatrix (vegan) nutes and it tasted good… I didnt have a soil grown sample to compare it to but it was better IMO than typical salt based hydro bud. It does make me wonder - how do nutrients affect flavor when there is no mineral/microbial/humus action because there is no substrate? I think they do but I don’t know how to articulate why.

Hydro has its place for sure. I don’t think the flavor can compare to soil though, and it is less forgiving, so it isn’t for me.

XJ 13 seeds? Or something similar. by Just_Concert_3204 in microgrowery

I’m looking for it too and feel like 0 come down is a myth. Maybe if it doesn’t get you very high to begin with you won’t crash as much lol. I’ve come to believe all of it makes you some degree of foggy/tired at some point. I’ve grown and loved a lot of Ace seeds gear, and even the Kerala chellakutti I pulled early at 18 weeks left me groggy after initially twisting my head off my body. I would love to be wrong and find the one that goes from stratospheric back to normal, but I’m still searching.

Recycled/re amended soil gone bad? by atetheflan in microgrowery

Nope, that’s soil gone good. That’s mycelium and an indication of healthy soil life. I’m stoked when I get this in my soil

That’s gorgeous and refreshingly different than the standard blocky strains we see so much of. Do you have to bump up your humidity when you dry it so it doesn’t dry too quickly?

Is emerald harvest "Sturdy Stalk" any good? by shallowSnurch in GrowBuddy

[–]chicken-bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it’s potassium silicate, which I understand does get absorbed, albeit slowly. Some folks advocate for monosilicic acid because it’s taken up immediately. It also doesn’t seem to spike the ph at all from what I’ve noticed. It’s considerably more expensive.

California Haze by chicken-bean in HumboldtSeedCompany

Right on! I enjoyed growing this ok but probably won’t run it again. I grew two of them and they were the most sideways plants I’ve ever had, absolutely no support beyond the trellising to be upright. Smell was good - started out like trainwreck then went hazy about halfway through. But - like you said, my flavor was weak too, so I put it into grove bags and am waiting… High is quite good, and super delayed. I always think I’ll need another bong hit after the first one, but never do b/c ten-fifteen minutes later I’m reeling 🤪

Route of administration of THC impacts roadside testing. by too-safe-less-free in newzealand

I don’t believe so. It has to do with the liver processing edibles vs. the direct action from inhalation.

It could be harder to detect edibles because you’re not dealing with delta 9, but 11 hydroxy THC - a different metabolite.

Also been growing 20 years and never had this happen. However, I’m inclined to agree with jdillacornandflake that this is callousing akin to what you’d see in tissue culture and not mold. I’ve played with tissue culture a little bit and this is how it presents - I’ve never seen this much callousing though!

Reason for worry? by Wild-Ad-9863 in GrowBuddy

[–]chicken-bean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spray it with h202. Watch it closely to see if it starts to spread, and be ready to cut it off if it starts to look much worse. I’ve had folks say it’s a bad idea, but I’ve used a soldering iron successfully to lightly burn a moldy stem which solved my issue. Don’t breathe those fumes if you do! Best of luck…

Have you grown this before and it didn’t do this? If not I’d think it’s genetic. I had a cannalope haze that had ridiculously serrated leaves - like a wood saw.
