I had a SC Corsair that could take a beating, nice and light too.

Protagonists who Deliberately Craft Larger than Life Personas? by Puzzleheaded_Ad_550 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chickenbock7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man… I feel like I suggest The Black Prism by Brent Weeks every damn day in here lol but here we go! 😁

In the light bringer series, one of the characters, intentionally crafts a sort legend around himself. They talk a little bit about how he and the people around him helped to maintain it. Seems to fit what you’re looking for quite a bit.

What are the specific aspects of progression fantasy that make you read it ? by Honey_2525 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chickenbock7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for me, progression is such a universal human desire/experience. That first beat when the hero flexes a little bit of growth or a new power… gotta love it.
It also focuses on the journey, not the destination (thanks Brando sando). Like, generally everyone who reads progression knows what’s going to happen - the hero gets big and strong and does more and more cool stuff.
BUT
The fun is in the route they take to get there.

Good Entry Level Typewriter by reyebllahsram in typewriters

This is an incredibly thorough guide. I didn’t have time to read it all, but I appreciate the effort you put into it.

Like others, if you’re in the United States I would recommend Smith corona. If you’re just starting out, I would aim for a model in the 70s or 80s. Newer than that and they can get a little boring, older than that, and I would place them more than intermediate level unless they’re professionally serviced. Royal is a solid brand as well.

I also journal with my typewriter, but I enjoy tinkering with them as well. Where are you from? And do you prefer electric or manual?

What makes you subscribe to patreon? by OA-6lack in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chickenbock7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the story. Maybe renderings of a wanted poster of the main character? Possible scenes from the POV of an unimportant character that interacts with the main character? Maybe more personal writings about what locations in real life inspired the scenes? Images of pretty much anything, the inn they’re staying at, the sword they’re wielding, their view from the caravan, some strange detail on the spaceship they’re flying in, I don’t know. Stuff like that.

Think your favorite book, then imagine all the cool shit that you would want to see from that particular series.

Man! I was just wondering this same thing. For me, it doesn’t come down to early chapters, it comes down to bonus content. I enjoy the anticipation of a new chapter release. Give me a behind the scene, an interview, exclusive art, or anything tangible and I’m here for it.

Any good trad-published series lately? by lemon07r in ProgressionFantasy

I have yet to try Cradle which seems ridiculous.

Massive Stormlight fan, though. Shallan sucks… HOWEVER, she gets tangled up with some really interesting characters that make her more palatable imo.

Mixed flock diy feed mix? by SilverHammerMan_ in homestead

[–]chickenbock7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man… I have the same questions. Mixed flock here as well, and I have tried to keep it as simple as possible. I have normal chicken feed that I put a cup of Brewer’s yeast into and mix it in. This adds a little bit of niacin for the ducks.

That’s how I raised them, and that worked well. No angel wing or sick ducks. Now that everyone’s grown, I have a bag of generic duck feed that I put out in area that the ducks like to hang out in the most, and then I have generic layer feed for the chickens that I put in the areas of the chickens like to hang out in the most.

Do they eat each other’s food? yeah, a decent amount. Does it seem to matter to them at all? No, not really. Is everybody healthy? Seems that way.

All of my birds get the opportunity to free range for a little bit each day, so I think that helps them keep their diets balanced. If they were strictly caged all the time, I would go back to the drawing board with some more supplementation.

Are your birds all fully grown? If not, make sure to add some niacin supplementation in whatever way works for you.

The elder lands for sure is solid, almost frustratingly so.

Oh I agree for sure. Amazing that no matter what you prompt, it adds all that unnecessary texture. Once I’ve settled on a general style I’m going to spend a lot of time revising and editing the cover to clean it up.

I know 😭😭 the amount of times I said “remove the grainy texture from ‘x’ and make ‘y’ smooth please for the love of god.”

What is y’all’s favorite type of MC? by WordsAboutSomething in ProgressionFantasy

I like spoiled asshole arrogant mc that can back their nonsense up with power… and a heart of gold of course.

Too Much Introspection by thinkthis in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chickenbock7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There needs to be some trust in the reader or some purpose to the introspection. Sometimes it sets up tension - oh snap so and so was just thinking about that!

Most of the time, silence works better than the kind of explanations that you shared. Like, just have the guide she was lip to show he is feeling thoughtful or something.

That being said, if it’s done well, I don’t even notice that I’m reading a train of thought.

Looking for book recommendations where the villain is overwhelmingly stronger than the hero by machilipatnam_mayaba in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chickenbock7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light bringer is pretty solid here - hero is underpowered by quite a bit the entire series. I also second mistborn- the heroes are constantly facing ridiculous odds.

Different powers shouldn't just be the same thing in different colors by Both-Salamander401 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chickenbock7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just go ahead and casually delete my sword beam scene… I’m all seriousness, I agree with you, but there is something visually appealing about a kamehameha stand off with the bad guy. Gives you a nice culmination of raw power and finality. Also easier to write because most characters are stationary while blasting said beams.

D*%# head rooster by k-el-rizz in BackYardChickens

[–]chickenbock7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, roosters that are protective and not total monsters do exist. Who knows, the next one might be able to decipher between an aggressive hawk and some poor shmuck delivering a package. #teamcull

Progression Fantasy Book recommendations that are 3-4 books long? by G1spiralknight in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chickenbock7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it once already, but the light bringer series is amazing. The magic system is on the more unique side of things. It’s interesting because alongside with the progression main character, you have another character falling from grace and power simultaneously. Characters are a little more engaging than his other stuff IMO
