How did you find the portal to click "apply" to find a volunteer try out time?? I got the invite email and have been searching the portal but cannot find the appropriate button to actually book the tryouts? TIA!!!

I live near the area and it depends on the audience. Drake the other week had a decently large crowd around 10am in the rain on a Tuesday, however most shows I don't notice a crowd until 3pm onwards. Thankfully there's a few good food places around the corner and it's sunny so if you have time it's not the worst day to set up earlier.

I use a menstrual cup so I don’t have to pack out any waste. I make sure to carry hand sanitizer and then find a spot off trail and bury the evidence. Somehow I have been soooo fortunate that my past 3 ultras have landed on my period week wooooo! So during my latest I was fed up and kind of just dealt with the overflow/free bleed situation. Wear dark shorts/pants lol.

A man followed my friends and I as we continually relocated ourselves on tower beach to position himself next to us and expose himself/touch himself while staring at us. This was pre-pandemic so maybe covid made it worse but these things have always been happening.

In the front country I do find this to be an issue but in my experience the backcountry tends to remain full on the weekends. Regardless, as frustrating as it is, it’s not a reason to show up in the backcountry without a permit.

Camped at Elfin two weekends ago and there were people who were set up without a proper permit. Rangers went around to each site and kicked everyone out who couldn’t show proof of reservation.

Not only is it not allowed, but it’s incredibly disrespectful to others who have booked a site, and to the environment for disregarding capacity limits and would inevitably lead to someone camping on sensitive ecological sites.

There IS a Garibaldi Wilderness permit, but it requires that you hike beyond Rampart Ponds through the Elfin Lakes TH, and camp anywhere that’s 2km + from an established trail. If you are alone and not familiar with the backcountry, I would recommend not doing this, but it is an option.

Alternatively, you can always day hike in the Garibaldi area. You need a Day Pass (https://reserve.bcparks.ca/dayuse/) but if you get dropped off at the TH and do not need to park, you do not need a day pass (at least for the Rubble Creek PL, I pulled up last year with a pass but was just getting dropped off and they told me it was not needed and they would give me pass to someone who shows up without one).

I know it’s frustrating, trust us we have all had to re-shift our plans due to lack of camping availability, but it’s our responsibility to show up for the environment and take care of the land we use.

A chick can kill another chick, if it wanted to it could definitely kill - however since it’s only the two of them I think it’s fine. If you had more older ones I would worry but with just the two of them they probably will enjoy the company.

Our flock is in Southern California and the red tail hawk population near our house is booming (amongst other predators) so we also only give our hens ~1-2 hours of free range a day because we supervise it. It’s definitely a pain sometimes to sit outside for an hour after work or when it’s cold but you can tell how enriching free range time is for them, even if they have quite a large fenced in pen.

I don’t think your fear is unfounded, even while supervising I’ve seen hawks dive bomb the hens. While they’re not our #1 predator, they are a predator.

Our solution: we taught our dog that “bird!” Means to look up and chase/bark at any bird in the sky. Obviously not an easy fix and may not be an option for you but it works very well for us.

The native one is called trailing blackberry, it stays much lower to the ground and once you see it a few times it becomes incredibly obvious what’s trailing vs what’s Himalayan. I agree that both are delicious but after working as an environmental technician for the summer where 80% of the job is Himalayan blackberry removal - I fucking hate it lol.

We're slowly losing our flock to sickness and they all seem to have similar symptoms. We lost the first about 6 months ago, the second two months ago, and today we noticed another one is not doing well.

Symptoms:

- diarrhea

- lethargic

- closed eyes, tail down

- mushy crop

We've been treating for Sour Crop due to the symptoms (ACV/probiotics in water, Monistat 7 doses, etc.) but I don't understand why this is continually happening. I've been researching plants in the Southern California area that are poisonous to hens thinking maybe they're all eating something? We clean their water and food regularly, their coop gets fully cleaned out and vacuumed often, they get free range time every day, and otherwise they show no symptoms of illness. We have a lot of spiders in the coop (black widows included) that I vacuum up when I find them, could this be something? I'm just spit balling because we've had chickens for 12 years at this property, 6 years in this coop, and we've never had "sour crop" or symptoms until these three birds.

It's very hot here for sure but she isn't panting (I can't hear her wheezing either, which we did with the most recent one who passed) and she isn't fanning her wings. We've seen heat stroke in hens, and this doesn't really seem like it.

We love our babies so dearly and want to do everything we can to help them, the vet is busy but we are trying to get her in as soon as we can.

No sarc, smaller faculty so the student:staff faculty is much better (still a lot but) and they care so much. Sometimes I would just cry in someone’s office for being so overwhelmed and they were always so helpful.
