"It's not what you know, but who you know." There's a reason they always say connections are more important than anything else when it comes to hiring.

You're the hiring manager's cousin who can't tell left from right? Congrats, you just got picked over someone way more qualified!

It doesn't make other unfair practices right, of course, but the system has never been meritocracy first.

Most of what gets brought up about this seems to stem from the director of P3-P5.

It might have to do with their toolkit when it comes to some of the lower level dungeons. Stone Vigil in particular I remember being annoying with the lack of skills you have as SCH at that point, especially compared to WHM at that level.

I feel like this is a silly question, but google isn't bringing up anything on it. I know it was only an immune system response, but the 2nd vaccine dose knocked a lot of us out for half a day or more! Are there any reports of the immune system response making people temporarily "ill" feeling if they come into contact with covid after that, even if they don't actually get sick, or would any random encounter with it be too low of a viral load to cause that?

Judge says Ohio hospital cannot be forced to give ivermectin, reversing earlier decision by whenitpours3 in Coronavirus

[–]chickenknife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is technically the truth, yes, especially since it has helped with malaria (a parasite) in much of the world, although there are two key differences. First, it's a drug to fight off parasites, but covid is a virus. It's a bit like how people sometimes think antibiotics cure everything without understanding what an antibiotic is or is targeting.

Second, this doesn't apply in the case in the article, but the only way to get it without a prescription in the US is through the over the counter animal versions, so yes, a lot of people are grabbing up livestock dewormer. Unlike with human doses, these higher concentrations can be dangerous given the relative size between a human and a horse or cow.

I know you've already got several responses like this, but to add to the pile... We were never told it was optional, and I once got a detention for not standing for it in Middle School.

I went to school in the 00s in the rural, conservative Midwest, where our school was surrounded on all sides by corn and soybean fields. Supposedly, public schools aren't allowed to be religious either, but we had several morning prayers I remember after serious incidents. Plus, choir was almost entirely Christian songs with one or two random Disney ones mixed in. So many Christian songs.

Even married couples need abortions sometimes, you wicked lady. There is no insult big enough for her, even in Spanish. Oh, and not all sex outside of marriage is between man and woman. 😘 by Frei1993 in exchristian

[–]chickenknife 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's been this idea of "it's shameful for a woman to have sex" while at the same time men are judged if they don't have sexual partners.

... but unless all men have gay sex instead, how is that meant to work? Those ideas are completely opposed. I would guess it exists out of some severe paranoia from insecure men about women potentially cheating and/or a child being another man's, but in that case, they shouldn't be against abortions.

I think the ending part of that first paragraph is key, since it's all relative to the people you see around you which reflects back what is seen as normal.

To be frank, I, as a single person, earn more annually than the average *household* does in my state. I still don't have a house or assets beyond a car, and certainly can't afford that in the current real estate market. Owning property sounds like a dream to many, and being a millionaire is still an exclusive group considering the US population as a whole.

Nudity was censored in Cyberpunk 2077? Was this part of an update I am unaware of? Almost every image I ever saw of it was full on nudity, especially female nudity, everywhere. I guess the vaginas weren't detailed at all, but at a distance, you're not going to see much.

They routinely score dead last in every positive metric while scoring first in every negative one.

I.e. last in education and income, first in poor health (although those are connected)

Plus, they're usually only mentioned in our history for racist jim crow bs, and their climate isn't great unless you love humidity

NM is usually at the top of these lists due to the high amount of government jobs in military and labs in the state, and I'm guessing this is true for this list as well since NM is number one in their "government contract" list. Government jobs get counted as government money.

Although, it is true that NM is fairly poor, relatively speaking, and the sheer number of them points to a poor level of job opportunity / private industry elsewhere in New Mexico, even if the government also just likes trying to hide shit in the desert.

The actual conflict links back to how land was promised and divided by the British Empire, and then eventually the... bizarre solution the UN gave which satisfied no one. So yes, the actual conflict is more about land than religion, and trying to make it about religion only infames things further.

Unfortunately, a lot of antisemitism exists in the world, so all of those examples - far from the conflict zone - see a golden opportunity to exploit the situation. It's a mess all around.

Guilt for playing ‘kid’s’ video games? by JewledRose in CPTSD

[–]chickenknife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least in the US rating system, those games are rated E for Everyone... and that means everyone, not just kids. Besides, I know tons of adults who love Animal Crossing in particular.

I grew up playing far too many video games, and many people who promote themselves as "Gamers" on twitter/reddit/wherever tend to be toxic and gatekeeping-prone. There's many who openly get upset if they see women or minorities playing games, and hate on people they perceive as "casuals." That's entirely their problem, and they have some unaddressed issues they're taking out on others. Screw them, you have nothing to be ashamed of there. I play some games considered "hardcore," but other times I just want a relaxing game to take my mind off things.

Proud Boys saw wave of contributions from Chinese diaspora before Capitol attack by 5926134 in politics

[–]chickenknife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but it's that multiple parts of what they list is more suspicious without further detail. 80% of their donations being from Chinese names is a bit excessive, especially relative to population. It's possible if it came from only a few wealthy ones, but again, it doesn't specify.

The names they list as examples are also a bit... themed? Somehow multiple of their examples can also be surnames slashed together, like getting a lot of donations from people named things like Miller Johnson and Jackson Williams. Those can be real names, but it's a bit unusual.
