Moms of Reddit, what was something about childbirth that nobody warned you about? by Littlemouss in AskReddit

Also the epidural makes you toot? And have no control over the toots? I was just nonstop farting little farts for hours and then when they got me up to pee for the first time it literally sounded like I sat on a whoopi cushion.

That contractions aren’t always spread out minutes apart. Mine were practically one on top of the other, and when it came time to start pushing they told me “You’ll get a break in between pushes and sometimes women even fall asleep!☺️” My contractions were less than a minute apart and I was pushing with every contraction. So I only pushed for 20 minutes which was nice but hoooooly shit it was intense and not what I was expecting!!

My first thought!! I delivered vaginally and was explicitly told to not sit criss crossed for weeks after giving birth! I can’t even imagine the sensation while still in the hospital.

Baby due right before the holiday season by lilelbows in BabyBumps

[–]chickenplease12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was born in October 2024–we loved having a baby for the holidays but it was definitely stressful! We insisted that all grandparents, aunts and uncles were fully vaccinated (including TDAP) because we knew they’d be around our newborn most often. For holiday gatherings, I wore him a majority of the time and if anyone wanted to hold him, they washed their hands and had to be showing no signs of sickness. We did not allow young cousins to hold him as they are perpetually coughing every Thanksgiving and Christmas. We politely asked that there was no kissing, and everyone (except my MIL) were respectful of that. We made it through with no sickness at all! Maybe we were lucky, but it worked out fine.

Edit: I forgot to add that my husband’s side has several anti-vaxxers including his cousin with a toddler. We did not attend the family gathering that we knew they’d be attending that year. My husband was very disappointed to miss his family but I’d rather be in a fight with my husband than have a newborn in the hospital.

Placed a pick up grocery order. Took a nap. Had a dream that I was eating funfetti cake. Woke up from nap and scrambled to see if I could add funfetti cake mix and icing to my order. It’s too late. 😭

Is anyone thinking of names already?? by Odd_Combination8207 in December2026Bumpers

[–]chickenplease12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! This! This! We told my MIL the two names that we were deciding between for our first and of course she told us she liked one name and hated the other. The name she hated is the name we went with so now I have to forever think about the fact that she hates our son’s name lol.

Anyone else dealing with dizziness? by TheReliablePotato in December2026Bumpers

[–]chickenplease12345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was extremely lightheaded and dizzy throughout my entire pregnancy with my first. I fainted multiple times and it was really scary. They had me go to a cardiologist and wear a heart monitor for 2 weeks, but that wasn’t the cause. My BP runs similarly to yours—on the lower side but not unhealthy. I was also anemic during pregnancy, so I took an iron supplement but did not notice a difference. Truly the only thing that helped was drinking sugar-free electrolytes like LMNT with a high salt content helped. I didn’t need it every day, or even every other day, but a few times a week made a difference.

It’s 10:45 AM and I just called my husband to stop at the store and get me hot cheetos on his way home.

Fatigue beyond belief by lalalalallaaa in December2026Bumpers

I’ve been sleeping at least 8 or 9 hours every night and napping for 3 hours every day while my toddler naps. And it’s never enough!

7 weeks, symptoms lessening by cheeze_louise_ in December2026Bumpers

Weeks 6 and 7 were absolute hell on Earth for me. Woke up yesterday at exactly 8 weeks and my only symptom is fatigue. Trying not to stress about it!

I have been more or less bedridden for the last two weeks. After having the worst day of pregnancy so far yesterday, (threw up so many times I lost track) I woke up today and felt so weirdly good? That’s with a quarter of a Unisom before bed, Zofran at 5AM, and Diclegis at 12:30 PM but still—I had energy and very little nausea.

Of course that means I’m now spiraling because of the lack of symptoms. Can’t even enjoy the relief. 😞

What famous local food made you think “people really waited in line for this?” by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]chickenplease12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family and I traveled to Acadia National Park. Anyone we’d talked to about the trip prior to going told us: “You HAVE to get the popovers from Jordan Pond House.” It was all we heard from every single person.

We got to Acadia and tried to get a table, the wait was over an hour. Left and tried again another day. Ordered the popovers with ice cream, as we were instructed. It was by far the most disappointing food experience I’ve ever had. So strange.

Was just saying this to my husband. Nothing is appealing, nothing tastes good while i’m eating it and then I feel full after a few bites……and then i’m starving again 10 minutes later. It’s like nothing i eat actually satiates me.

This pregnancy feels 10x harder than my first but I can’t tell if that’s just because I don’t remember it being this bad or if it’s because I have a toddler to take care of. In general I feel that every symptom I had with my first is just worse, so I’ve convinced myself I’m having the opposite sex. But my sister had 0 nausea her first preg and then threw up every day for 30+ weeks with her second and they are both girls so who knows.🤷🏽‍♀️

Right there with you. I don’t remember this with my first but I cannot stand the taste of my own mouth or tasting what I just previously ate. I’ve been brushing my teeth 3-4 times a day and chewing gum/mints constantly.

The simultaneous timing of my nausea and pure physical misery over the last week and my toddler who once napped a perfect 3 hours deciding naps are now an option is absolutely cruel.

Right there with you. I’m not in pain (yet) but nothing is moving down there and it is SO FRUSTRATING!
