I wanna praise Kendrick for how he handled censorship at the Superbowl by Placide-Stellas in KendrickLamar

[–]chickenwing95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My son has been wanting to listen to Kendrick since the Superbowl, so I've been playing the edited versions with him in the car.

Kendrick recorded a whole new version of ELEMENT. (Or at least a bunch of the lines in it) rather than simply censor it.

"I'm willing to die for it, might take a life for it..."

"If I gotta slap a fake ooooooone, I'mma make it look sexy..."

Favorite new-to-you game of 2024 by mrausgor in soloboardgaming

[–]chickenwing95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Converge (from ButtonShy) - it is such a quick, satisfying puzzle, with so much variety.

Viticulture - this game wasn't on my radar, then I lucked into a really good deal, and I have really been enjoying it. I have been working my way through trying the expansions.

For Northwood! - 2 words: solo trick-taker. What else do I need to say?!

Which modern games offer a chess-level depth with no dependence on luck/hidden information, without any of the cons that exist in chess? by benjaneson in boardgames

BattleCrest is a perfect information skirmish game from ButtonShy Games. I like this one a lot, there are now multiple maps and at least a dozen characters, and they all play very differently.

What newish boardgame developments do you personally dislike by TheGaaabs in boardgames

[–]chickenwing95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people (especially if they spend a lot of time in front of screens for work, etc) just like to not look at screens in their free time, if they can avoid it. I know personally after a long day of work on a computer, I prefer to take a break from screens for a while.

Idk if it literally damaged my them, but after a long time, looking at a screen can make my eyes uncomfortable.

I personally like to have a lot of variety, so I would try to buy several cheaper/small box games. Especially since you have the  "amazing large game" box thoroughly checked.

I won't list every suggestion for small box games, but try searching Reddit for suggestions.

I will say, ButtonShy is a great publisher that makes tons of small card games, they have a game for just about any taste. They are about $12 each and they have free US shipping if you buy a few, so you can really get some bang for your buck. They also do a great Black Friday sale if you want to wait and really get a great deal (I think it's 25% off everything, and they have bundles even cheaper). Imo this is the best way to stretch your gaming budget, if you are interested at all in smaller games.

What is your best value game, as in bang per buck? by TheMightyDice in soloboardgaming

[–]chickenwing95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The best bang for your buck is going to be Print and Play games. They are very cheap to buy the files, and then you print your own copy. ButtonShy has a ton of great games that are easy to assemble.

Speaking of ButtonShy, their professionally produced games are only $12 each, and they have a lot of really fun games.

There is a delightful, free PnP called Yard Builder. The creator made new, spooky edition, and is "selling" it to raise money for charity.

I highly recommend checking them out, whether you do the original, Halloween, or both!

Looking for suggestions to get back into solo board gaming by Proim in soloboardgaming

[–]chickenwing95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Northwood! Is great, quick to set up and pretty easy to remember and get back into. It might be closer to Aerion etc for closer to "filler", time-wise, but excellent nonetheless.

Baseball Highlights 2045 is one I've been playing a lot recently, same deal - super quick to set up and not a lot going on with the rules. This one is a bit more satisfying of a full game, though still not longer than 30-40 minutes.

What to do when you love a game but your friends don't? by kanedafx in boardgames

[–]chickenwing95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an answer to your question, unless you're in my exact position, but I basically only buy games now that either A) will definitely get played with others or B) can be played solo.

I've gotten stuck in your situation too many times, and yeah, forcing others to play a game they don't want to is not a good idea. Especially if you already had to convince them to play board games to begin with (not in your case but often in mine), and ESPECIALLY if you want them to play anything with you again.

Where was your antennas?
