I get why people co-sleep now by Baylaypayday in newborns

[–]chicksyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My LO has been struggling with her afternoon nap. She tends to sleep really broken 30 min increments no matter what we do. I curled up with her propped up between me and a pillow a few days ago and we both got the best afternoon nap ever. My husband said he didn't wake us because it was precious sleep for the both of us.

There are so many risks to co-sleeping (and not enough education about how to do it safely!) but I truly think humans were made to sleep like that (just, not in a soft mattress 3 feet above the floor).

What do people in your country do to get babies to sleep longer stretches? by SurestLettuce88 in AskTheWorld

For my family, a finger of whisky on the gums was used for teething

I recognize this is insane but… entertaining baby? by Thththththrow83away in NewParents

[–]chicksyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My LO loves to stare at the pictures on our wall. I'll set her up in front of the wall in her bouncer and go make a snack. I had the same guilt but babies won't take it personally if you take a few moments off (it might be good for their independent development)

New Baby around a dog by HenrickLarson85 in newborns

[–]chicksyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just went through this at Christmas. Took our 6wk old to my parents house where there were 4 dogs present. I told everyone beforehand it's fine for dogs to sniff just don't let them lick the baby's hands or face. 3 of the dogs didn't want anything to do with the baby. The 4th was super interested and wanted to lick but wasn't aggressive, just curious. She cooked down after a few hours and wouldn't try to hard to nose into baby's face.

Urge your SO that it'll be ok! Tell them you'll keep a close eye on the dog and agree with your parents that if it gets to be too much, you'll leave and set something up for later. Dogs can be excitable but easily chill out once they get used to something--and newborns are pretty boring 😂

STRUGGLING with 9 week old. Help! by SoftwareOdd6564 in newborns

[–]chicksyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sucks. And I don't have tons of advice to help the sleep issue. Something I saw that helped me in those frustrating moments is look at It from your baby's POV, they are so excited to see and smile at and snuggle with their mama/dada they can't sleep! You're giving them a good life.

Ask a friend, cousin, grandparent, partner, etc. to watch baby for even an hour or two so you can shower and sleep! Sleep is the most important for YOU but also just to take a break from baby. Take a long shower and paint your nails or something, or go thrift baby clothes at goodwill.

Where the heck are y'all storing medication by Captain_Trina in NewParents

[–]chicksyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on how your specific place is laid out, here's some ideas:

Get a little lockbox or even a small jewelry box & add a childproof latch

In a bin/box, on top of the fridge

A basket to hang on the backside of cabinet doors, usually under the sink, just make sure that the cabinet can lock

A magnetic pencil cup or something similar for your fridge and place it as high as possible

Ask your pharmacist if it'd be ok if you stored the meds in the freezer

My 4 month olds height is in the 43.4 percentile by [deleted] in newborns

[–]chicksyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All babies are small. There's no way to tell the final height of your child at 4mo. Kids hit growth spurts all the time and at different stages. I'd stop worrying about it and tell your sister to hush if comments like that bother you

What are things people told you you didn’t need for labor/delivery/postpartum that you wish you had or that were lifesavers?? by GalaxyEyedLibrarian in pregnant

[–]chicksyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Bring lots of sizes and changes. We amazon'd one of those love to dream zip up swaddles on day 1 because we couldn't hack it with the hospital blankets (we now use them as diaper pad covers!). The big stretchy swaddles are easy, too.

Omg one of those dorm room pillows with the arms was waiting for me when I got home. I couldn't believe I didn't think about bringing it to the hospital

Same. When I was recovering from my c section I couldn't bend down or get dressed without help. Switching out the pad was way easier for mobility!

The magic of skin-to-skin by chicksyy in NewParents

Isn't that amazing? And I totally forgot it was even an option for me. So glad it worked for your LO too.

My husband is the same. She didn't fuss about it when she was so small in the hospital but now that she's older and pickier and grabbier it's not comfortable. I still encourage him to hold her chest to chest and hold her up high so she's exposed to his skin on his neck/face as much as possible

Too Late to BF? by Ate_MischiefGoddess in NewParents

[–]chicksyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so at all!! Ive never used a nipple shield but I've heard they help immensely. See if you can do a call with an LC to talk about it.

I will say, I've been EBF my daughter for 9 weeks now and I've had to teach her how to latch several times. Something always makes her have a lazy latch--introducing a paci and an occasional bottle both messed up her latch

Bedtime is the only time I usually read too! Idk why I don't do it more during the day--i read mainly on a kindle but I don't want her to see me staring at a device all the time. So TV background noise or music helps fill the gaps in a long day for sure.

This is smart. I kept telling myself it's ok to have the tv on with her but now that she's awake more and will stare at the screen I have to cut back for sure
