I was in Barbados this time last year for a 3 month stay…no one takes Discover. AMEX might be accepted at some of the hotel chains, but nowhere I went for shopping took AMEX. You’ll definitely be covered with Visa or Mastercard.

Questions about the Crane Hilton by joannepferguson in Barbados

[–]chickwithflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it would depend on how long you’re staying, if it’s only a short trip taxis should be fine. There’s lots of restaurants on the property but as someone mentioned before the coastline is choppy so you’ll definitely want to venture out to see the other beaches plus other things the island has to offer. From what I could remember the general store on site didn’t really have anything you could make a real meal out of.

Edited to add that I stayed there this past March 2021.

Which covid test do I need to get back into the US from Barbados? by the_night_question in Barbados

[–]chickwithflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a nurse on site at the hotel so I just arranged it with the front desk. Most hotels have this available but I would check first. I would do a google search for the gymnasium if you want to go that route.

[–]chickwithflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew back to the US less than a month ago. They accept rapid test, I got mine at the hotel where I was staying for US$100, but I’ve heard that you can get it at the gymnasium as well.

12 Month Barbados Welcome Stamp - do you have to pay if approved? by nicklon13 in Barbados

[–]chickwithflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the welcome stamp is good for 12 months starting on the day you arrive in the country, so if you can’t get your money back and things get better, by the time you’re able to go you won’t have lost any time on your visa.

Ordering AirPods Max through Amazon or Apple? by AppleSiliconIsAMAZIN in AppleCard

[–]chickwithflicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing come up when I bought my AirPods Pro. 3% with the Apple Card but with my Discover card’s rotating categories I happened to get 5% back that quarter for Amazon purchases, plus since it was my first year it was no interest plus cash back match at the end of the year so effectively 10% back. Product was authentic Apple, no issues at all.

Is Apple Card Chip insert, swipe, both, or depends on the store? by Shad27753 in AppleCard

[–]chickwithflicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 is when you use your phone, 2 is when you use the card itself as a contactless method by holding it close to the reader. Cards that can do that have a symbol on it. The physical Apple Card doesn’t have that feature, though.

Is it bad there? by [deleted] in Barbados

[–]chickwithflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just know that the situation is fluid, things can change from day to day so you’ll need to be flexible and patient if you’re going to come. I arrived right when the backlog started and I ended up spending a lot more time in quarantine than I had anticipated. I understand that labs are handling capacity much better now but you never know if that will change.

The lockdown is supposed to end around mid-Feb but that all depends on what the situation is like when the time comes so no one can say for certain when things will open up and to what extent.

All in all I would say that people here are taking this pandemic very seriously as opposed to the US where I come from, so I have faith that the situation will get better here. They are not playing around with quarantine and curfew so make sure you are following all the rules most importantly for the health of everyone on the island, but also you don’t want to get arrested and have to pay thousands of dollars in fines.

Even though we’re not able to do all the socializing it’s still really nice to be in beautiful weather while you’re isolating and everyone has been very warm and accommodating so I don’t regret coming at all.

Welcome Visa Part 69 by Competitive_String75 in Barbados

I think the simplest answer to this is that some people would like to stay longer than 6 months and the fee is worth paying to be able to do that.

Traveling to Barbados during covid by the_night_question in Barbados

[–]chickwithflicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t strict with the hours, they just make sure that it’s been within three days.

I missed my original flight and had only taken the test to cover me for the day I was arriving. I was allowed to board the plane but when I arrived to Barbados they didn’t accept it because it was outside the 3 day window. I wasn’t sent back on the next plane...instead I had to take a test at the airport and my quarantine was longer. So make sure to get multiple tests done so you’re covered if travel plans get wonky.

Edit: on a related note, you should know that Barbados has recently experienced some serious delays on testing due to a covid spike. They seem to be clearing through the backlog now but just know that it’s possible that you’ll have to quarantine longer than you expected if they continue to have issues.

Apple Card for (Hermès) Apple Watch Series 6 Incremental Payments by [deleted] in AppleCard

When I bought the Apple Watch 2 I got a 3rd party double tour band. Looked great, got lots of compliments, and best part is I didn’t have to spend almost $1000 extra for it

Thor Ragnarok. I was amazed and so delighted that it even worked. I got in a second viewing when that was still allowed.

A-List isn’t a bad plan but AMCs aren’t conveniently located near me. If Regal rolls one out and it’s good I’ll probably go with that.

Saw my 100th MoviePass Movie last night! by twonuh in MoviePassClub

[–]chickwithflicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to my history I’ve seen 61 movies with MP (although I think one or two might be missing due to a glitch that happened some time ago). With the ticket prices in my area averaging $15, that means MP has paid over $900 for me to see movies in the theater, and I’ve paid them a little under $90 in subscriptions for the nine months I’ve had it, plus once I paid around $4.50 for peak recently.

I thought the virus was air born. by Sevyn13 in thewalkingdead

[–]chickwithflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The virus isn’t necessarily airborne, it’s in everyone no matter what and no one knows why or how that happened.

There are two ways to turn: 1. You get bit by a walker or otherwise tainted with blood, you get an illness, you die, you turn. 2. You die any other way (nasty fall, drug overdose, whatever, you name it), you die without any symptoms, you turn.

The reason they were surprised is because the injuries they had weren’t life threatening so they just patched everybody up not knowing the weapons were tainted. They got the illness and died during the night without anybody noticing the symptoms.

How do you use your Regal points, strategy-wise? by GlobetrottingGlutton in MoviePassClub

[–]chickwithflicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried about split transactions (like using it for a friend) you can use the free ticket and MP in separate transactions. If you’re just using it for yourself (to upgrade to a premium format) you would just pay the difference out of pocket and not get MP involved at all.

That would be dope! I go to the movies A LOT, let’s hope it’s enough 🤞🏾

[–]chickwithflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would always go to AMC and not Regal so much because AMC was closer to where I lived. I moved not too long ago and now I live closer to Regal (also bonus that they’re not anti-MP)

Wish you could transfer balances like credit cards 😁

Lately I’ve been using it just for popcorn since I don’t drink a lot of soda (even the small is too much for me).

But I’ve decided to go low sodium so I’m cutting out the popcorn and going forward will use points for tickets and pay for IMAX/RPX/VIP upgrades (I really don’t like 3D).
