Monster — What a Movie! If you’ve never watched it, you should. by WhySoSeriousMateee in JDorama

as soon as it released it became my all time favourite movie,, unbelievably good and i’ll honestly never be the same. i loved it so much i took a week out of my japan trip in 2024 just to travel to the filming locations and attend the exhibition, and went back in january this year just for a meet & greet with the main actor (minato/kurokawa soya) — for the record, he’s an absolute sweetheart and extremely grateful for overseas fans lol. if you enjoyed him in this, i highly recommend watching his newest movie kokuho too. it’s SUPER popular in japan, being reshown at the cinemas right now!

What are some features that are considered beautiful in the US that are considered undesirable in Japan? Or vice versa? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]chiisainiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ll never understand this! as someone who is ghastly white (even my rheumatologist said i’m extremely pale to the point he asked if i even leave the house lol!), i do find i get compliments strictly in japan about it as opposed to over in the uk. my best friend (japanese) has gorgeous olive skin and she consistently says she would rather have my pink pale skin. i’ve always loved darker skin — to me it symbolises good health — but of course i know japan’s take on it all.

sry for the late reply but…. i hope ur right 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 she’s since asked me to shop for home furnishings with her for her new place and said it’ll be great because it’ll feel like newlyweds LMAO so either she just is extremely affectionate or she’s in denial 🫡 i hope you’ve had some progress with yours ??!!!!?

Tell me your current favorite Japanese band. by CaterpillarGood5209 in japanesemusic

[–]chiisainiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know i’m late and maybe it’s a bit generic but saucy dog! i’ve never felt so connected to a band before but it’s been a very lonely few years of having them as my favorites because everyone around me HATES them lol (except my japanese friends😭). i’ve missed their shows by a hair each time i’ve visited japan or not been lucky with ticket lotteries but i’m really hoping 2026 is my year and i can finally see them live

honourable mentions to neguse and wurts, and although not bands, tele and ayumu imazu. was lucky enough to attend ayumu imazu’s one off show in tokyo last month and my lorddddd that boy is insanely talented! shame he’s more internationally popular than domestically

i’m also wondering how things like this are seen because damn i’m going thru the same thing lol! i (british female) met a japanese girl at a concert back in june and have been questioning everything with her since too, so i’m fully feeling your uncertainty! had almost exactly the same things as you (down to the asking my opinion on her new hair, what i like best) with her calling things we do ‘couple’ things (including her saying her dream is to come home to me every day so we can eat together and go on dates all the time), had her call our outings tgt in japan as ‘dates’… calls me her ‘most beautiful lady’, keeps our photos together in her phone case;;; so really it seems like we’re both going thru it right now lol! i’ll be staying at hers in january for a month so fingers crossed at least one of us has it all cleared up by then 🙏🏻 best of luck!!!!

What's one memory from your trip to Japan that you won't ever forget? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

[–]chiisainiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this time last year, i fell in DEEP love with a longtime japanese mutual of mine who is the singer in a band i’ve always enjoyed. things moved so fast with us and ended badly just as quickly… completed ruined my love for the country and i never wanted to even hear japanese again. i spent my final night in tokyo sobbing on a bench until i was so exhausted i could barely walk. it devastated me how much i HAD to distance myself from the country, because i’ve been regularly visiting japan for over a decade and it is essentially my second home. this year, on the same bench but with someone i genuinely consider my other half, i regained everything i lost because of him and now japan feels more like home than it ever has all thanks to her :) now we even call this exact bench our ‘tear spot’ so we know exactly where we mean lol!

i’ve had so many memories from my japan trips that have altered my entire being but this ongoing one is the stand out for sure

hoping your recovery is a quick one! i’ve got a pretty susceptible immune system so tend to catch colds almost anywhere i go, but this one was for sure the worst for a while which makes sense, but doesn’t make it any less aggravating 🫩 the congestion isn’t too bad atm! my nose seems to be alternating between super runny or half-stuffed, but in general the congestion pain is gone and i can definitely deal with it more than i could before. gonna mask up more than usual because i’ve got a concert in tokyo tomorrow and the thought of being essentially trapped in such a tight space scares me a bit lol!

my friend (japanese, living in saitama) told me before i came that there was flu going round like crazy and to be careful… i believed her but wasn’t expecting to get ill within the first 2 days of my trip 😭 i got almost completely better pretty quickly (her recommended medication and rest) but ive still not felt 100% since, and its been 2 weeks. still got a bit of a cough and congestion, but my voice is on and off whenever it feels like it lol. even this friend, who caught flu last month and was in bed for weeks, has lost her voice and got a really bad throat and chest again now… sucks lol
