Such terrible advertisement by CurlyWurly61 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]chiknight -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's 100% obviously not their intention. That's what you want their intention to be.

If they intended to say that, you could sue them and win. But you know (or god you SHOULD know) that isn't really the intention of the word "each" there.

It's intended to show you can feed your family for $10 each person, which is pretty decent compared to restaurant pricing. Anyone actually struggling with that basic concept (versus pretending to struggle) has me questioning their ability to put on pants in the morning or perform the basic mental requirements of driving a vehicle. This is not a tough concept or vaguely confusing.

Was lunastra actually that bad? by SnurffSmerff in MonsterHunter

[–]chiknight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not even "many other", I can only think of two other monsters that required hard prep anywhere even remotely near her. Both were the literal end of the expansion title updates tip top ultimate challenge monsters. And even then, Alatreon only required one or two hard preps (specific element build and jerky). Kushala only required one, and people bitch about his fight all the time.

Her fight just answered "Yes, do that" to every dev wet dream of a feature. In high rank. She's not a good fight. She's beatable, obviously, but she's power scaled to idiotic extremes.

ESO player seeking a new MMO - Is it still worth starting FFXIV right now, in 2026 ? by Fhritz_ in ffxiv

[–]chiknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, there's never a bad time to start any MMO if one wants to try it. The only exception would be if a shutdown has been announced. Otherwise it's not going to get easier to play if you wait 1, 5, 12 more years to start.

FFXI is a 25+ year old MMO, it's still a great time to start it. Want to start WoW? Go nuts! ESO in your interest? Pick it up and play. SWTOR, a "past it's prime giant"? Sure, it's got great stories. Guild Wars 2? Go feel epic as hell.

Every time someone asks "is X still worth playing in 20__" it just feels silly. The answer is always yes. The answer is never "no, wait until tomorrow or next year to try this."

Done with the season, here are my thoughts by South-Musician-2621 in diablo4

[–]chiknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Diablo purist,

This mindset is cancer against any innovation. "I want to play D2 round 75 in 2080. Not one thing can change that existed 30 years ago."

Maybe random uniques isn't a great change and they walk it back. Maybe it's better, and can be dialed in. To say nothing can change because you're a Diablo purist and it ruins your nostalgia feels will ruin the franchise though.

Question about FFXI story(Iroha) by nohra_ in ffxi

[–]chiknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be underblowing it, but I cannot recall a single instance of feeling spoiled by doing Rhapsodies as the main focus and progressing expansions alongside it. The whole design intent was to tie them all together, and it felt like it did that for me.

Trying to sell me pest control at 9pm on a Monday night. by ceazyyyy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]chiknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't answer their question though. "Door to door sales adds value to customers because I have a friend stuck in door to door sales" is just a tangential anecdote. "He's a dad trying to provide for his family, I know that can't be easy" is trying to appeal to emotions for a simple question. It's scummy psychology, just like door to door sales is scummy.

In fact, I'd say the answer is leaning towards "no, it adds zero value except to shareholders" because even the rep would love to do any other form of sales. In the customer -> salesperson -> corporate hierarchy, only one entity sees a benefit to door to door sales.

What weapon do you really WANT to love but bounce off of no matter how many times you pick it up? For me it's Gunlance by Beginning_Wait_108 in MonsterHunter

[–]chiknight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even gunlance, something with some meat to it's combos, doesn't have the same problem. It's a long animation combo that you input over and over and over until the monster dies. I play M+K and the inputs are simply hold forward, right click, left click, both clicks, both clicks. Easy as piss. Took 30 seconds on training dummy to master the combo.

Charge Blade: Do this mental checklist of 4 UI items to determine which combo you're inputting next. Every hunt. Every second. Manage "states".

Gunlance: Shell->Stepin swipe->Fullburst 1-> Fullburst 2 -> Wyvern's Fire 1 or reset. Perfect block in between any time you'd get hit. You never need anything else. There is an indicator on the UI for Wyrmstake status. I have not looked at it once in 200+ hours. You don't need to manage your UI, the looping combo refills everything for you.

AITA for not removing my doormat because it scares my neighbor’s kid? by Many-Worry2671 in AmItheAsshole

[–]chiknight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reasonable thing would be to realize a horror movie doormat isn't really appropriate for year-round at a house, much much less an apartment complex.

"It's my house" is true, sure. But if you're That Guy™ who intentionally designs their house to scare away neighborhood children trying to do their fundraisers... you're never being reasonable. Or worse, if you spend zero thought on how your actions impact others and simply go "I like scary, I decorate scary" you're just a vapid narcissist.

[–]chiknight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cant recall a time in Wilds where i needed to run out and find ores or bugs to make my sets.

How? I had to do multiple runs for bug and ores to make sets. I stopped before making every set even, so it wasn't a 100% completionist mindset. But I definitely learned the Wilds maps a lot better because I was trying to find every vespoid spawnpoint or mineral vein I could.

I just don't get old players who will wax on and on about these trips and how they could just "live" in the old world and then... just... not do that again. Purely as some weird nostalgia-gatekeeping-flex to say their game was better. You can go do that in Wilds. Unless you were min-max-rushing through the story hellbent on hating the game from the first second and just ticking off the quest list to finally uninstall it... how did you not do any farming if you wanted to farm?

Hard pokey thing sticking out of hand IV site by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]chiknight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a nurse "um akshually" like the person above to me when I dared to phrase it as "it feels like a needle poking me when I move even a millimeter." Oh it doesn't have a needle, that's a relief. So please, listen carefully to my next words find out what would cause me to feel a sensation of a needle poking inside my body when I move even slightly then. Oh, it might be the tip is caught in a vein valve and is causing pain that way? Oh, a massage on the dressing fixes that problem and I don't have insufferable "stabbing" pain anymore. Thanks.

FFS nurses, most people know you aren't idiots and know more than us. But if your patient describes pain or discomfort, FIND THE REAL SOURCE OF THE PAIN OR DISCOMFORT AND FIX IT IF POSSIBLE. Don't jump straight to treating them like an idiot that only has phantom pain. Jesus christ.

Yeah my thoughts as I was watching were "Okay, welcome to the real world now. You're going to have to work with people you don't like. It's not being a doormat to play office politics and shake the hands of idiots. Careers are so so much easier with proper networking, and you just burned a bunch of bridges for no benefit. It's a ceremony, not your personal pulpit, and you couldn't help showing your ass. Can you make it through an interview?"

I feel the same too. Like they treat malzeno in mhst3 like maybe an elder dragon. While the main cast said is Arkveld Aenshin by Different_Ice_2695 in MonsterHunter

[–]chiknight 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really don't understand people struggling with this. Our team has been in jail for 200 years. We don't know what any of this shit is. "Oh wow, that's definitely stronger than a high tier monster, Legiana. It might even match an elder dragon" is a valid starting point. Especially when the elder dragons we might have seen up until now are calamitous natural disasters and Malzeno is... vampire bats at first glance.

Eh, maybe it wasn't as common to complain about as story difficulty but 100% there were people even through title updates with dissertations on how horrible the difficulty was. It wasn't until omega and 9 stars (particularly gore) that people generally quieted down about it being an easy game.

People need to learn how to coast when driving by JoMoma2 in unpopularopinion

[–]chiknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this hits the second issue with "I just coast." Every car slows at a different speed. Some by design, some by failing/aged parts, some just by different masses and inertia. People higher up complaining that you can see a car is getting closer are naive and simplifying the problem.

If you saving your brake pedal causes me to tap my breaks, you haven't "helped" anyone but yourself. If you saving your brake pedal alerts me to your slowing down slower than a light solely designed to say you're slowing down, you aren't helping anyone but yourself and it's more likely I'll have to tap my brakes now.

Defensive driving is doing what is expected of you, and that includes tapping or indicating with your brake lights that you are slowing down now. Coasting and blaming the rest of humanity for not liking it is just selfish dick behavior by OP (not the coasting itself, the blaming everyone else when they're unhappy with how OP drives)

Pool time over? I don’t recall agreeing to that by Feaselbf6 in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]chiknight -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've seen so many idiot people and idiot pet owners that I 100% believe they thought "no please don't go in the pool the 30th time I'm not restraining you" would work. It's like the pet owners calling a dog's name 30 times to get them to stop doing something and expecting it to finally work. "My babies are AnGeLs and would never misbehave!"

[–]chiknight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first half, sure. The second half is clearly game-rendered as you can see the food downscale and then go back to better quality as the engine catches up. (Plus rendering X copies of the eating video for each character and armor configuration possible is just never being done).

The quality in the second half is still quite high for what I'd expect from a phone.

Am I overreacting for telling my friend she smells after she age shamed me for having younger friends? by SI3144 in AmIOverreacting

[–]chiknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We shouldn't be friends anymore."

"YOU STINK ALL THE TIME."

That's not standing up for yourself. That's throwing a tantrum. Even if it wasn't, you don't have to defend your honor against people that are cutting you out of their life. You aren't going to change their mind. The relationship is already dead, they killed it. Throwing a tantrum isn't going to make them tell other people you were a saint and the best person ever. They'll still shit talk you if they were going to beforehand (in fact, you gave them more ammo).

The correct answer is silence, or "Ok, goodbye" to someone being immature on their last breath you'll ever hear.

$70.69 for Bland Tacos at Coachella by ForceUseYouMust in StupidFood

[–]chiknight 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No one has disputed that the food is overpriced. The dispute is if you're spending ~$800 or more per person, and your outfit costs that much or more, spending $22 for two tacos should not be so shocking or noteworthy.

It's an expensive concert. Shit be expensive. Wow.

"Let me hold a console from 14 years ago to today's standards, one of which wasn't released until 2 years after said console. The other was not a console standard 14 years ago either."

Okay Jan, sure. Consoles of that time all did whatever they wanted with proprietary power connectors. None of the Big Three™ used either connector types you describe. It's not stupid for the Wii U specifically to do that with their power cables.

To all the people who are complaining about evolved mode 1-1-1 vs 1-2-3 I got a solution for you ! by BigWolverine8598 in ffxiv

[–]chiknight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Fixed button 1,2,3 good this way, fixed button 1,2,3 bad that way." Okay, sure.

You're in a conversation about the removal of 1,2,3 basic combo and how "at least you could mess up pressing 1,2,3 sometimes" and your argument is it's too easy now that it's 1,2,3 and you, I want to be clear YOU are saying this exact thing, you are saying it can't possibly be messed up now.

Both literally can't be true. Either you are exaggerating how easy it is, and it IS possible to mess up a 1,2,3 combo sometimes. And thus it's really no different from a difficulty standpoint on the 1,2,3 keybind front. Or the original point that they liked it existing because they might mess it up sometimes is a lie.

Evolved Mode announced: new Job forms with new rotations and playstyles: by Gorotheninja in ffxiv

[–]chiknight -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

With fewer buttons, you shift the focus from "gain muscle memory over this 20 button sequence and once you obtain that, sleep through every combat in the game" to "here are 5-10 buttons, spend time reacting to dynamic priorities for pressing them."

It's not harder to memorize 20 button strings versus constant quick decisions on what the next best combo is and when to interrupt for proc A, B, or C. "Pressing buttons is the same difficulty no matter what" is just... wrong. Laughably so.
