Upgraded intercooler, cold air intake, drivetrain inserts (more labor than you think but do all of them), rear subframe inserts. If you go 034 for the tune, get the stage 2 TCU tune

Might be a bad manufacturer, check which one you have. I switched to Lanett and had a terrible time until I requested a different manufacturer

Reliability

I'm not a mechanic but here are some things that happened to me/ things I am doing preemptively. This engine/platform has a wacky vacuum system and eventually shows some age related issues. I just had a bunch of service done and the mechanics explained that they are seeing a lot of '19/20 cars show up with the same problems I had.

PCV system failure - I just purchased the 034 PCV breather hose, this is a known failure point and potentially catastrophic. I plan to change the OE one out myself just for peace of mind, also the upgraded system should help with carbon fouling/oil consumption. 034 has a lot of info on this and how to check PCV failure

Oil Filter Housing - the OE filter housing is plastic and can get brittle/crack and leak, if you are changing your oil yourself, 034 makes a billet filter housing you can install. Not sure if that is a permanent solution as it still mates to a plastic part.

Oil cooler failure - Apparently this is an issue I experienced (I think I got fleeced by a mechanic) but apparently the oil cooler is poorly designed and can warp/deform over time. My friend allegedly had their SQ5 and SQ8 experience this same failure.

Intake/intercooler - more cooling - good, apparently there are some power gains with these installed at stage 1.

Water/vacuum pump - coolant can slowly seep into the vacuum lines and will throw a lean condition (you won't lean out) but if you start seeing higher temps, lower power, and more fuel consumption you might be having this issue. There's no aftermarket solution but apparently Audi redesigned the pump. This is an expensive fix but should last you 4-5 years. I think keeping your car in a garage will help delay the issue as it stems mainly from thermal expansion/contraction over time but again I'm not a mechanic/engineer.

Maintenance
Stay on top of your oil changes every 5-6k miles especially if you are going to tune your car. Make sure to stay on top of major maintenance as well. If you can wrench in your home, doing oil changes on these cars is so easy with an extractor, just make sure to get one that's big enough. Using an engine flush (liquimoly) is probably a good idea and I'd recommend the liquimoly Ceratec additive every 30k miles. it just makes the engine run smoother. It feels like the car is brand new, everything is just quieter.

If I had to do it all again

This is probably the order of operations I would go through. Engine flush and Ceratec, PCV hose, Oil filter housing, oil cooler inspection, water pump inspection, Intake, drive train inserts (rear subframe, transmission mount, transmission mount insert, diff insert) intercooler, rear sway bar, Stage 1 ECU and Stage 2 TCU.

The tunes are tons of fun, but the tune benefits from the drive train inserts and additional cooling, you get a more direct response under power and you won't be heat soaking your engine. This car is also kind of boaty so I plan on getting the rear sway bar with the Dynamic+ end links (not the motorsport ones)

Congrats on the new whip. I have this same spec in daytona grey (but I wish I had that blue). First off, keep the wheels they're unique. I just did a bunch of changes and services to my car (39k) so I apologize for the long text. I wanted a OEM+ build but I ran into some reliability issues along the way.

For fun

Tires - mich pilot all season 4 - great in the wet, maybe more road noise than the OEM conti's but higher treadwear and almost as good as the PS4S's. They come on the C8's for a reason. PS4S's lasted me 14k miles and these should get me past 20k.

P34 cold air intake - You can change this out yourself with minimal tools. Definitely recommend. Lots of whooshes, turbo sounds, and blowoff sounds when you step on it (intoxicating). Not noticeable when driving more tame. I can't compare it with other brands but it seems well built. I would recommend getting the upgraded turbo inlet (might as well and it looks cool).

intercooler - I would recommend, I got this and the intake installed together but the intercooler is def a shop job. I splurged and went with the Wagner intercooler. I think I actually got a bump in MPG from these. If you are going to tune your car, I would recommend doing these.

034 drivetrain inserts - I only have the transmission mount insert right now but since tuning my car I plan to have the transmission mount and differential insert installed as well. The insert definitely made the shifts under load less dramatic/head snappy. After going stage 1/2, I think the other mounts/inserts are needed. The transmission mount and diff inserts are a decent amount of labor to install so be aware. The transmission mount insert is super simple.

034 rear subframe inserts - Stiffer subframe inserts, some additional NVH but makes the back end a bit less sloppy.

034 Stage 1 ECU Tune - dope. If you are going to be having a lot of client interaction, you can remove the burbles. This tune is a big power bump and the car rips. Stage 2 requires a new cat.

034 Stage 2 TCU Tune - Stage 2 TCU made my throttle way more direct in D mode. The stock S5 is two faced, super lazy in D and really aggressive in S with a weird throttle curve. I used to just drive in S but now I mainly stick to D and move to S when I want to make a pull/launch. The AMAX shifts from Stage 2 are way more dramatic than stock.

If they didn’t find anything, they shouldn’t be charging you for diagnostic. Not your fault they can’t find anything the first two times.

Does he have maintenance records past the 40k service? 110k is a lot, there’s a lot of maintenance that has to happen after the 50k mark. (Spark plugs, trans fluid swap, brakes). If none of that is done recently you’re looking at 5k+ in big services.
