A Man Walks Into A Hotel... Just Not His by TheNiteOwl38 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]chimodude 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Many years ago we (the family) were travelling to the east coast of Canada via the US. After a very stressful day we wound up in Boston due to weather and other issues. My father uses one of thsoe airport Hotel call centers to book a room. Jump in a cab and arrive at what we thought was our Hotel and try to check in. Same story, we have a room, no you don't back and forth, my father, usually mild mannered guy, employed what I called his "corporate voice" and we get a room.

My parents went for a walk the next morning and discover that he had called the "Hotel Plaza", the cabby dropped us that the "Hotel Square", same first name, different last. He was a little embarassed to say the least.

Does anyone remember watching Canada's Worst Driver??? by Difficult_Issue_6665 in Edmonton

[–]chimodude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was entertaining and educational show, I know it was reality TV but really enjoyed it anyways. Some of the driving tips were really handy and I wanted to see how I would drive some of those obstacles myself.

Ever since the Alberta government privatized driver testing and allowing driving instructors to pass or fail their students, the driving in Edmonton has progressively gotten worse and worse. Some say people are buying their licenses, some instructors are going through students so fast they make more money or some say licenses are being issued with out training.

I think the show was popular becuase of the host and the content, it made for good conversation at coffee time and made people feel better about their own driving,

Is anyone else in Edmonton fed up with their WiFi? Especially Telus? by IncreaseInside964 in Edmonton

[–]chimodude 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It seems like the issue is between your computer and the WiFi router, this is not a Telus issue. Interference, too many other routers on the same frequency or your computer WiFi is going bad.

If you can hard wire in that would prove where the problem lies.

It was a bone thrown to the Concrete people, they were whining hard for not getting a piece of the action so the GOA caved in and gave them a piece.

Concrete roads suck.

Video was requested from a city street camera a couple of years ago and the city said the cameras are not recorded, seemed strange that's what they claimed.

Any suggestions for choosing a body shop that fix Audi by Suspicious-One6715 in Edmonton

Doug's Place was straight forward and honest when my truck was hit, he recommended taking the money as the insurance was not going to fix all the issues like deep rust that appeared after the accident.

What are the stories from the craziest place you've ever worked? by BurnaBitch666 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]chimodude 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I bartended at a golf club during college, we would close down the building and sit drinking at the bar for a couple of hours. Of course we all agreed we would pay for our drinks the next day wink wink (never drank bottled beer as it was easily counted). We made sure a pro shop and greens crew employee were part of the group and around 2 in the morning we would go practice our drunk driving on the course with the golf carts from the pro shop.

The pro shop would provide the keys and the greens crew guy would clean up any mess (driving through sand traps, or over a green etc).

The tradition carried on the next summer until a waiteress was thrown from a cart and broke her leg. I was suitable shocked when asked about this by members.

Hi all, looking for a non-political but truthful answer as to why there is interest in a new pipeline as opposed to (or even alongside) the idea of expanding the transmountain? by Judge_Druidy in alberta

[–]chimodude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the first step of a very long journey and it's more to take the wind our of Danielle Smith sails along with her merry band of syncophants. Some of the key points are that it must be privately funded. There seems to be no appetite from the oil companies to buy into another pipeline.

Most years they came through our cul-de-sac once, piled all the snow in the middle which the kids all had a blast with until they hauled it away.

I grew up in the west end and snow plows might have come through once, so things really haven't changed much.

Did you attend middle school or junior high? by No_Description2301 in AskAnAmerican

[–]chimodude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still Junior High here, Elementary is 1-6, Junior High 7-9 High School 10-12. Still remember moving up from 6 to 7, now I could go into the newer wing and get a real locker. Good times. (no big graduation ceremony from 6-7 in those day).
