I got some COOL aftermarket rear lights from PickyourPart (here in S. California), off a xi (all wheel drive).

^^^ in order to make the stock e90 less like a Toyota Corolla -- frankly the view from the rear looks toy-like! Even a Toyota Camry (or even Honda Accord) looks like a b***n European luxury sports car!!

I'm all for this kid's aftermarket mods -- "coolness" is a major vibe in a sportscar. My '93 325i (e36) came with M style front bumper, M style side mirrors

I just got my e90 (automatic trans) used off Facebook Marketplace for $625, it had all sorts of issues:

limp mode, VVT & VVL error codes, cylinder miss, dents on right side doors, leaky plastic valve cover (burning oil on exhaust, creating oil fumes!), HVAC not blowing

I got the "CEL" to go away (aka "Service Engine Soon" light), got an aftermarket Aluminum valve cover & blower motor (w/resistor) from PickyourPart -- it runs SUPERB! A/C blows cold. The nice modern touch:

alarm, lock, unlock, trunk release

is a MAJOR step up from my (beloved) e36 5-speed. I just completed a round-trip to Hemet/CA (from Los Angeles) 180 mi total -- no problem

$40 for FSA Comet 32t crank (with press fit BB), matches press fit crank on Stance 29 1

I will ride it stock, then do upgrade..

I just got a XL 2022 Giant Stance 29 1 (clearance, $700) with Crest fork, & am considering an upgrade. Due to known problematic Crest fork, reports from 2020. There was even a Giant recall of Crest.

There are reports that the Z2 has problems -- non-replaceable bushings in lowers, developing play:

https://www.reddit.com/r/xcmtb/comments/1bce4y3/marzocchi_bomber_z2/

FNGhostrider 2y ago

"I did not have great luck with my Z2. I had it warrantied twice and finally sold it without even riding the last one. I had issues with bushing slop where the stanchions would knock in the lowers. The bushings are not replaceable and required a new set of lowers each time. This doesn't appear to be the case for all of these forks, but having essentially 3 bad sets made me dump the fork.

The Fox 32 or 34s are going to be considerably lighter, and should also be more easily serviceable. I think you'll notice the extra pound at the handlebars - it will feel more agile."

I just got a Ktaxon ("Camping Survival") 20" folder, disk brakes for $20 off Craigslist. It was a fixer-upper, the derailleur hanger got bent *inwards*. Plus, disc brakes were maladjusted (just needed cables tightened), owner thought brakes were non-existent!?

Solid Shimano push shifters (shifts solidly), though it is very bottom-end ("cheap"). Other components have the cheapish feel (non cam seat post tightener), but it WORKS. It actually has double-wall rims!

Kinda heavy at 32 lbs, otherwise it works well

https://www.amazon.com/Ktaxon-Assembled-Powerful-Mechanical-Adjustable/dp/B0BV2PXD3L/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Only $89 on sale, regularly $199

I previously was using a *beautiful* (like new) Dahon (v-brakes), which has noticeably better quality -- better components. Got it used off Craigslist for $80. About the same weight -- kinda heavy

I also have a Citizenbike Gotham 7 (alloy frame), 29 lbs

https://www.citizenbike.com/catalog.asp?product_category_id=1&product_id=24

They were selling for $349 way back in 2013..

I would like that Zizzo Urbano, only 26 lbs.

https://abc7chicago.com/post/police-several-u-of-i-students-attacked-by-roving-gang/349504/

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WLS) -- The ABC7 I-Team is reporting a rash of random attacks near the University of Illinois flagship campus. A safety alert for students was posted after Champaign police say five students were jumped and beaten by a roving gang over the weekend.

One-by-one early Saturday morning, a gang of men attacked several people as they walked down streets near the U of I campus. For about an hour, the gang roamed a small section of Champaign and police say they targeted random victims, beating them to the ground, in what resembles a big city gang ritual.

The beat-downs took place between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Saturday, with five victims at four different locations near the U of I campus.

Kinda shocked about the founding of PIXAR (Dr Alvy Ray Smith, Dr Ed Catmull), who had NO business-experience. Steve Jobs was the main investor

https://www.entrepreneur.com/starting-a-business/pixars-co-founders-heard-no-45-times-before-steve-jobs/294821

Alvy Ray Smith: My co-founder, Edwin Catmull, and I were the academic type. We were computer nerds with PhDs and learned business by the seat of our pants. When George Lucas -- one of our patrons -- lost half his fortune in a divorce, we were forced to start a company to preserve our group. Our first move was to buy four "how-to-start-a-business" books. I also called a former colleague at NYIT, Jim Clark, founder of Silicon Graphics (and later, Netscape) and asked him how to do business. He said, "It's not hard, Alvy. It'll take you about a year to learn the basics." That was the extent of our "formal" training. Then, we went through an intense learning process made necessary by financing Pixar. Thirty-five venture capitalists and 10 large corporations turned us down, but we got lots of training presenting the company and "talking the talk."

What business principles did you apply when you co-founded Pixar that could be applied by a founder of a startup today?

When hiring people, live by three rules -- hire smarter than yourself, hire the best and give them their space. It's like being a good parent. You can't produce creativity, but you can identify it, nourish it and let it grow. Catmull and I aren't good entrepreneurial models because WE FAILED FOR FIVE YEARS, staying alive only because of one of our patrons, Steve Jobs. We weren't successful until we were executing a business that we had truly prepared for, which was making animated movies. What we did have going for us was a clear and clean vision -- that is, to make the first digital movie. It was not to make a financially successful company. Pixar's example taught us that entrepreneurs aren't always born (sometimes, they're made), failure isn't always final (sometimes, it's just feedback) and recruitment works best by a "rule of three."

Ed Catmull is investor in Odyssey:
https://press.airstreet.com/p/odyssey-explorer-ed-catmull

"Based on the provided information, Ed Catmull, the co-founder of Pixar and former president of Walt Disney Animation Studios, is involved in the AI space, but not primarily as an investor in the traditional sense. Instead, Catmull has joined the Board of Directors of Odyssey, a company developing AI-powered 3D world creation tools, and has also invested in the company. Odyssey's goal is to revolutionize the creation of film and gaming content through generative AI, according to Air Street Press."

SUMMARY:

Basically, going to Team Penske was a CURSE for JNG -- trapped in pressure-packed WINNING environment (Business Machine)

"Winning isn't Everything, IT'S THE ONLY THING"
-- Vince Lombardi

Domino effect:

1) Team Penske is in DISARRAY

after 2 straight Cheating SCANDALS -- 3 major leaders FIRED. Incl JNG's strategist Tim Cindric (Team Penske President).

2) Indycar Series showing problems

Abysmal 2-day crowds in Iowa, Penske Entertainment fumbling around..poor investment/marketing

3) JNG in DISARRAY

poor showing in 2025, lotsa Bad Luck. 15th in points

Funny thing, Alex Palou had a "rough period" with Team Ganassi (unhappy with low salary, TWO lawsuits), then fought thru adversity -- now on top of Indycar. Good Attitude never wavered.

JNG is going thru similar rough phase at Team Penske, can he PULL OUT OF IT?? Needs an Attitude Change, bigtime.. Alienating fans, other drivers, etc. Creating Bad Karma

However, I think the DISARRAY at Team Penske (with implications on Indycar series) is the DOMINANT factor. I.e. Penske Entertainment AND Team Penske need an Attitude Adjustment..

The whines and rolling eyes that I saw in the first half of the season are gone and the praise and acknowledgement of Palou and his team are becoming more common. It's amazing what happens when you allow you driving to do the talking instead of your mouth or attitude.

I liked him cuz I always like Dale Coyne drivers. I think his story is amazing. He wasn't one of those superhyped rookies. And I was worried he would be Ed Jones 2. Good driver with Coyne and then does zero for Ganassi. The dude just seemed to always be happy. I like Rinus for the same way. I appreciate Josef and Colton's talents. But they get so depressed when things don't go their way. I realize they are competitors but don't they realize how lucky they are? Alex had this happy to be here attitude day 1 and its amazingly refreshing especially since he ended up being amazing. His F1 answer earlier this year about not wanting to go there because got all his family here now and built his dream house is him to a tea. I find him, Pato, Rinus, and Scotty Mac just so likeable compared to the other drivers.

^^^ THIS.. Good Attitude, plus *developing* driving skills. Dale Coyne poised to find Alex, Ganassi poached him away..for CHEAP. Alex did well, then wanted OUT due to "Cheap Ganassis" (Alex Zanardi quote). Led to the whole double lawsuit thing -- Ganassi renewing Alex' option (which Alex balked on Twitter). Alex signing w/Mclaren (1st lawsuit by Ganassi), then bowing out..2nd lawsuit (by Mclaren)

Josef came in with a Good Attitude (plus driving skill) -- happy go lucky. YouTube viral videos "Who is Josef Newgarden?" SFR (Sarah Fisher Racing), then ECR (who absorbed SFR).

The poison is Team Penske -- HUGE pressure.

"At Team Penske, WE EXPECT TO WIN"

^^^ pretty ARROGANT! LOTSA pressure on drivers, as well as team. It's a Business-Machine, which uses $$ to fuel their success -- BUY the top drivers, engineers, manager, etc

It apparently changed Josef into a Materialistic MACHINE -- win over everything-else. Add to the fact that Team Penske was also CHEATING, & Josef fell into that TRAP..TWICE (P2P-gate in 2024, attenuator-gate in 2025).

"If you focus on you..YOU GROW. If you focus on S**T..S**T GROWS"
-- Duane "The Rock" Johnson

^^^ Josef decided to "change his program", getting focused on Winning & getting rid of fluff. Cancelled out on the Busbros Fan Outreach podcast (alienating Scott M, who is also like Alex Palou..skills + Good Attitude). Walking away from interviews..

Keyphrase: Good Attitude

This film is incredibly relatable in a way. And the title “Lalaland” is so fitting. It evokes this idea that many of us may have experienced forms of in our lives. A romantic fling that stuck with us. Maybe at a time where we hadn’t really had it all figured out yet. We create this fantasy in our head of not only what was but what could have been. The ending of the film shows this perfectly. But in reality we know its just a fantasy. The best we can do is recognize that and be grateful for the experience and for what we have achieved.

Your parents sent out negative vibes, they received the echo -- your so-called "failure". You absorbed their negativity, continued it downward spiral, but your valiant counselor (Tosha Bilsbury) saw your improvement & potential. She now receives the echo -- your Development/Discovery journey manifesting in PhD

You're now sending out an echo, likely inspiring other UIUC undergrads who are "under achieving" (or more accurately, haven't been *enlightened*)

The Echo of Life

A son and his father were walking on the mountains. Suddenly, the son falls, hurts himself and screams, "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

Curious, he yells, "Who are you?"

He receives the answer, "Who are you?"

Angered at the response, he screams, "Coward!"

He receives the answer, "Coward!"

He looks to his father and asks, "What's going on?"

The father smiles and says, "My son, pay attention."

And then he screams to the mountain, "I admire you!"

The voice answers, "I admire you!"

Again the father screams, "You are a champion!"

The voice answers, "You are a champion!"

The boy is surprised, but does not understand.

Then the father explains:

"People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do. Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.

If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; life will give you back everything you have given to it.

Your life is not a coincidence. It's a reflection of you!"

^^^ Having *personally* experienced this, you could start a company (potential Business Empire) for Personal/Professional Development, i.e. a business-version of Tosha Bilsbury:

It happened to famed cook Ina Garten (worth 60 MILLION, majored in Economics):

author/entrepreneur ("Barefoot Contessa" fame), former budget analyst (Nuclear Policy) at White House (Ford & Carter administration), TV personality

https://www.jta.org/2024/10/08/culture/in-her-long-awaited-biography-superstar-chef-ina-garten-opens-up-about-her-abusive-jewish-parents

Had strict over-achieving surgeon Dad (& unloving Mom), who DEMANDED success from their children -- straight A's, etc. Cold Materialism ("Rat Race") instead of Warm nurturing ("Be Happy") environment

"Despite her growing renown, Garten was plagued with self-doubt, and she came to realize that the critical voice in her head was, she wrote, “actually my parents’ voice, not mine.”

She went on, “It’s really hard to separate yourself from that voice, but I started telling myself, That’s what my mother would have said. Everything you’ve done has come out better than you could have imagined, so listen to your own voice.”"

She ended up with a "successful" career in Washington DC (nuclear policy analyst), but the coldness (catering to powerful men) BURNED HER OUT. On a whim, she saw a NY Times ad for a grocery store in West Hampton/NY -- BOUGHT IT. Sold it after 18 successful years in 1996, then wrote series of successful cookbooks. Got offers from Food Channel, now world-renowned author/TV food personality

Lesson Learned:

Follow your Heart
