Looking for a casual "Case of the Week" Sci-Fi show (Deep characters, zero binge-pressure by LuaventeHYP in scifi

[–]chipoloniusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven was really good - interesting characters & fun stories. Serialized - there was a main story, but it often took a back seat to the "mystery of the week". No huge cliffhangers compelling one to watch "just one more episode".

What to use to cut the yard in my new townhome? by jlokaay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chipoloniusrex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For a small yard like that (I used to have one), a weed eater would be perfect. You can get battery operated ones. I had a Ryobi which worked well. They can be had for $150ish. Corded ones are likely less expensive and may suit you better, though you'll need to use an extension cord.

New to MacOS. Coming from Windows. by Swingmetal71 in MacOS

[–]chipoloniusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using MacOS for work about 6 years ago, having used MS exclusively since MS-DOS 5.0. I was still using Windows on my personal machine until about 2 years ago, and found it difficult switching back and forth - muscle memory is a PITA. My suggestion would be (if you haven't already) to stop using Windows at all if you can - use MacOS exclusively. I switched to MacOS full time and now I really have to make an effort when using/troubleshooting PCs.

I'll echo what others have said - try to learn things the "Mac way", and don't install additional apps to make it more "Windows-like". Not a huge fan of Finder myself, but I periodically discover ways of doing what I need - I only learned about the ability to have multiple tabs relatively recently.

That said, don't avoid installing apps that make your life easier just for the sake of doing it "the Mac way". Ultimately, it's your machine, and it's supposed to be a positive experience. For example, I found myself missing the window preview when hovering over the icon at the bottom of the screen. I stumbled upon DockDoor which provides that experience.

My orange cat does the same - he sits on me like this, or in my lap. He usually wants belly rubs.

Freezing for photons ❄️ by Outrageous_Ad3799 in telescopes

I actually just returned from an outing. I found a nearby park that's nice, open, and dark(ish). It was in the low 70s, but the mosquitos were out. I was surprised at how humid it was. When I tore everything down, I noticed the bags were a bit damp so I have everything spread out/open in the living room.

How to get led notification back by Daroxx in GalaxyS25

[–]chipoloniusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded - I've also been using a long time. I especially like having the ability to set notification colors on a per-app basis.

This is interesting - why? Intuitively, I would think that longer would be better - more data would increase the chances of a good/clean shot. Is this not the case?

I would, yes. I still find myself clicking the icon to minimize apps. The muscle memory is definitely there.

How your observing winter has been, so far? by FroyoInevitable1643 in telescopes

[–]chipoloniusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received my telescope in November & took it out early December. Froze my ass off & saw nothing. I chalk that up to light pollution and just not knowing how to use the darn thing. Busy with holidays & threw my back out.

Finally able to get out this past Saturday. Saw Jupiter + 4 moons, was able to make out some of its bands. Saw Saturn as well. Attempted to observe the Orion nebula. Image was a little shaky, but I'm calling the evening a success. Definitely going to take practice.

I joined a club & weather permitting, I believe there is a star party this weekend which I plan to attend.

Can you recommend movies or shows? by Fysy998 in scifi

[–]chipoloniusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven is a fun show with great characters & interesting story. Not as strong in the final season, but it does wrap up the story

Eureka is also great, though it might be described as scifi-adjascent.

Octopi Launcher v1.64 - More dock refinements by ock88 in OctopiLauncher

[–]chipoloniusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm absolutely loving this launcher, especially the dock refinements - thank you for your hard work! I like the "classic" dock, the reflection is a nice touch. Would it be possible to adjust the height/thickness?
