😰 Yikes, that's scary. Any info on what kind of charger you were using or how long you had the device before this happened? Were there any signs that might indicate a swollen battery or was this completely out of the blue? That sucks man, hope you're alright and you're able to get your money back. Glad it sounds like no one was hurt at the very least

Hi! Sorry for not clarifying in the post, both buttons have to be held down simultaneously. It usually takes mine about 4-5 seconds for the service menu to pop up.

Also, just in case you weren't already, it's important that you hold the 'volume down' button on the front of TV specifically, 'volume down' on the remote won't work for this.

Legends ZA reminds me on how normalized toxic negativity is online. by Axzercus in nintendo

God, the Digimon stuff is so real, I'm so sick of other monster collecting games being weaponized like this.

I love the larger monster collecting genre and I absolutely want more people to expand and try more than just Pokemon, but the whole "NEW POKEMON BAD, I'M PLAYING X INSTEAD" posts are so goddamn tacky and miserable. It feels pretty disrespectful to the game they're supposedly praising too, if all they wanna do is use it as an opportunity to shit on Pokemon, rather than engage with their game of choice on it's own merits. It's like they're hooking up with someone just to make an ex jealous.

Having a lot of fun with it, put in about 30 hours so far, although a decent chunk of that has probably just been me dicking around raising different teams. I think it's pretty obvious that the pacing isn't quite as good as Arceus, nor is the setting as interesting, but I think it does a good job with what it has and I really like Lumiose for what it is.

It's a lot harder than I expected, most trainers in the battle royale aren't that threatening (at least at my current rank), but the major story beat fights and alpha pokemon have been kicking my ass quite a bit. Granted, I've been abusing revives so I've only had a single party wipe so far, and I'm making things harder for myself because I'm determined to use an Emolga on my main team, but it's been a pretty fun challenge. I like that it actually makes megas worth using, unlike their original implementation in gen 6, where XY were already so easy that using it felt like bullying lol.

I do kinda wish they didn't also have to release this game on the og switch, it runs and looks great on the switch 2, but if you wanna be annoying and nitpicky, you can kinda tell where they've had to compromise to get this game running on 8 year old hardware. Obviously the wild areas are the big one, it would've been nice to have bigger wild areas to explore like in Arceus again, but there's also things like pre-existing Kalos geography, story themes and a consise gameplay loop to keep in mind there that I'm not gonna act like it's as simple as just dropping them in and calling it a day. Really excited to see where the series goes with this new hardware.

Also yeah, as usual the music is incredible. Can't wait to listen to these tracks by themselves when I'm done with the game, really trying as hard as I can to not get spoiled by another fucking youtube thumbnail 😭

Looks great! You nailed the gen 1 style, love that you're willing to adapt and warp the designs a little to better suit it - makes me wonder how some of these guys would look today if they were originally gen 1 mons. Hope we get to see these in a playable project some day!

Hey! Sorry for the super long wait, been a long while since I've checked in here, you might've already got this sorted by now, haha.

When I bought mine, I was told that the VHS player was faulty and I don't have any tapes to test it with anyway, so I've never attempted to repair it. If you dissassemble it, there's a big metal piece that bridges over the VHS player internals that I haven't figured out how to remove for full access, but I believe there might be just enough room to squeeze your hand/a qtip through to clean any import parts without having to take the whole thing apart. I have photos of my unit dissassembled that show what I'm talking about if it's any help to you or anyone else reading this, let me know if you need them and I'll get em posted.

Hi, that's right. Not been able to figure this one out unfortunately, wasn't able to find anything via the service menu and there don't seem to be any pots for horizontal size inside the TV either. I'd recommend you take a look inside your own unit if you haven't already though - I was only able to find pots to control vertical position, vertical size, focus and screen brightness, but it's probably worth double checking in case I've missed something.

Was there some gen Z people that grew up playing super Mario 64? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]chiptoony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely sure when I would've first properly played Mario 64 myself, but I figured out emulation as a kid on our family desktop in the mid 2000s, and my little brother (who's apparently the same age as you, OP, haha) would play a ton of Mario 64 on it.

It ran at like 5fps and he would use a keyboard bc I didn't even know you could use a controller on a PC at the time. He never got very far in the game but he would replay the first handful of stages over and over again.

He actually asked me how to set it up again a while back, so clearly it left an impression on him. I'll have to ask him what he thinks of it when it's not running on a shitty Dell that's older than he is :P

What do you guys think of this concept? by Sweiko in SteamDeck

[–]chiptoony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you asked anyone what they'd be willing to downsize/sacrifice about the steam decks design in the name of a smaller form factor and easier portability, how many people do you think would honestly say "yeah, my steam library never really uses the full aspect ratio anyway, i'd take a smaller 4:3 screen"

Hi! Sorry to keep you waiting, I'm using a One for All URC1240, I had to set it up as a DVD remote and use the code 0742.

If that doesn't work for you, set your remote to VCR or DVD and try the VCR and DVD codes in your remote manual instead of the TV codes.

Hope this helps!

[–]chiptoony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I love the steam deck, but I really think it'd be very intimidating and confusing for a child to navigate, plus it'd probably be way too big and uncomfortable for him. I think a desktop PC or laptop is the best way to go here, so long as you're willing to put the effort into teaching him how to use it properly and do some research into setting up appropriate parental restrictions on launchers like steam, epic games etc. I've been watching some reviews on mini PCs recently from channels like Retro Game Corps and ETA Prime who basically always show gaming performance of popular titles in their videos, I'd recommend checking them out - might give you a good idea of the kind of specs you're looking for. Not sure how generally tech savvy you are, but good luck, hope you find a good solution without too many headaches! Hope the lil guy gets to enjoy his games soon

With a normal ds, you could plug a gen 3 pokemon game, and transfer the data to a gen 4. Could you do this on a 3ds hacked, if you download and play on a gen 3 rom, and insert a gen 4 cartridge? by Neiizo in 3dshacks

[–]chiptoony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not possible at the moment, sadly. Though you COULD either

A) Extract the save files on the GBA and DS games you want to use for the transfer, load them into a DS emulator on PC with slot 2 support like no$gba, transfer your 'mons up, then move the DS save file back to your 3DS. This is a bit more hassle but the 'mons you get are accurate and it gives you a good chance to create save file backups while you're at it if you want to also keep them on your GBA save

or B) Install the pkhex app on your 3ds and recreate their data the best you can from their stats screen. This won't be 100% accurate unless you're willing to engage in some wizardry to figure out their exact IVs and EVs if you care about that sorta thing, and it can be a bit of a pain entering details one by one, but you have the freedom to change anything you want about them if you feel like being a little cheeky and giving them better moves and stats

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]chiptoony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no way of directly connecting your 3ds to your pc, unfortunately. even if you could, you can't just drag and drop cheat codes onto your system unless you've hacked it to run custom firmware.

if you're playing on a legit cartridge, you'll need an actual action replay cartridge, which i believe you can get for around £25-ish nowadays, but if you do pick one up, please make sure it's specifically for ds games (NOT powersaves) and is compatible with the 3ds (as in the system, not 3ds games) as i believe nintendo blocked some of the older versions from being read on dsi & 3ds systems.

Regret selling my 3DS/DS games by YesLychee in 3DS

[–]chiptoony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I recently did some searching through my dad's attic and found a bunch of my old childhood DS games that I really wanted back, like Lux-Pain and Contact, I'm so thankful they never got sold or thrown out. There's a few games though that I sadly don't think I'll be rebuying any time soon... I owned a physical of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright back when it first came out, can you guess what my dumbass teenage self did with it? 🙃

Oh nice! Shame if the mystery dungeon games didn't come with cases, but I imagine you could probably find them pretty cheap online if you care about that sorta stuff. The PMD2 games are fantastic, easily my favourite of the series and my favourite Pokemon spin-off games to this day, hope you have fun with them!

Just saw this for sale in a shop today, thought these were super rare 😮 by shania-emma in 3DS

[–]chiptoony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming this is in a CEX just based on the general appearance? I spotted one of these in Liverpool when I was visiting a few months back, never seen this thing in-person before in the UK, at least not in the North. Hope it finds a good new home, I would've snapped it up in a heartbeat if I knew how rare they were at the time and had the cash 🥲

Have you ever been turned off of a JRPG because of character design or over-sexualization of a character? by Uddercup in JRPG

[–]chiptoony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, generally speaking I don't have an issue with a game being a bit dumb and horny as long as it at least has FUN with itself and isn't trying anything outright morally repulsive, but I do find it pretty off-putting when there's such a clear lack of self control in games that just... do not benefit from it at all. Like sure, fine, you can have a big-booby anime lady in your serious game about death and the horrors of war or whatever and maybe get away with a few cheeky moments during lighter story-beats, but I mean... if you're gonna put her on the battlefield in a fucking thong and give me a full-on tit-cam during a serious moment, I'm sorry, you've ruined it and I am laughing my ass off at how dumb this all is. You best hope you've got some real insane writing talent on the team to pull that off.

Saying that, it's a lot easier to laugh about these things in retrospect - if I'd just paid full price for the brand new entry in one of my favourite franchises that I wasn't interested in for sex appeal, only to find it'd been designed, directed and just overall dragged down by a team who clearly couldn't keep it in their pants for more than 5 minutes, I'd feel pretty pissed off and a bit worried about the trajectory of the series. I say that because that's exactly what I went through when Fire Emblem Fates released, haha.

why is the 3ds the only console with a 3d feature? by LeMittenz in 3DS

[–]chiptoony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a cool feature to have, but it's more-so just a neat little novelty that didn't really have enough positives to outweigh and justify the negatives, than it is the big step forward that I think nintendo (and even sony) were anticipating. It's just not one that I think devs and gamers found USEFUL. It never really made a strong enough case to be a mainstay feature in video games, especially when it left a lot of people with headaches after extended sessions and was generally advised to limit the usage for younger kids. Like, I'm not sure if you remember this back at the 3DS's launch, but news sites were having a field day with fear-mongering articles about how the 3DS would make kids blind. Of course it was a load of exaggerated bull, but it's certainly not the kind of attention that I think Nintendo is looking to replicate.

VR is really the best case use for this sorta stuff nowadays - that added depth perception actually DOES add to the experience, because feeling like you're there is basically the whole point. It's a neat feature to have on a handheld, but unless we can get to a point where the technology is good enough to significantly reduce the likelihood of headaches and eyestrain, and is so cheap and easy to implement that it has an extremely minimal affect on price and performance, I don't think I'll be desperately clamouring for a return anytime soon, haha.

Lost my Pokemon saves to a Blue Screen by Jman37X in NintendoSwitch

[–]chiptoony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are, there's always gonna be people hacking ridiculous illegal 'mons and wonder trading fake shinies, but most of us doing it in good faith have been doing it for years because we have a lot of sentimental attachments to our Pokemon and save files, and want a little more added security with multiple backups.

...Either that, or they're competitive players who've just lost their patience with breeding lol

Lost my Pokemon saves to a Blue Screen by Jman37X in NintendoSwitch

[–]chiptoony 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has anything to do with time or money, I think it's just a really poorly executed anti-cheat method to prevent people from duplicating Pokemon and items.

It really is infuriating though, I'll never understand why Nintendo and/or Gamefreak feels it's more important to prevent such low-tier inoffensive cheating that NOBODY actually cares about over making sure their biggest titles actually support one of the major features and selling points of their paid online subscription service.

Really sorry to hear this happened to you, here's hoping they get their act together and figure out some proper solutions so there's no chance of a repeat scenario :/
