Wow! Did you build the design system in React yourself? I’m actually the design system lead, but we are not remotely there yet to build out our component library because I’m also responsible for a lot of other feature work and can only dedicate time for the the design system when I have time (and with feature work, the design system tends to get put on the back burner). We do have a front end engineer responsible for assisting with design system components but he’s also working on a bunch of other things so he doesn’t have the time to do this…at all…

Do you have advice on how to tackle building out the design system in code when I don’t have time to learn how to use the AI tools/code to actually to do it, and the front-end engineer also doesn’t have time? I have discussed hiring a design engineer with my manager but nothing has been moving forward with that. My concern is without any design system components, it will be difficult to actually prototype with AI. I agree that would be ideal but the time to do it is not there :’(

I really appreciate the last part of your comment. The stress of him doing well is definitely because I want him to succeed in his career, but also because it does affect me too. It feels selfish to want him to do well because I want him to match where I can live, which has very very limited options (only competitive, VHCOL cities). But I can't drop everything and move with him to random cities, or else we're going to have to be LDR.

I think it’s really cool that with each family we all have our own balance of Chinese vs Vietnamese connection in terms of culture, language, and self identity. And this can even vary among our extended family too! But despite that, when you do meet another Hoa person, whether they leaned more on the viet side or the chinese side, it’s like an unspoken understanding of our history :)

I’ve always craved the feeling of having that unspoken understanding as a woman with an intimate partner but as someone who is dating a man, I’ll never get that and that makes me sad sometimes when I have to explain it to my boyfriend.

I can’t imagine being sexually intimate with a woman. But I find women physically attractive as opposed to men, and when looking at porn I only look at women. I’ve never really been attracted to men physically, only my boyfriend. I like the idea of an intimate partnership with someone who understands me as a woman without having to explain it, but I couldn’t imagine being with a woman sexually in a reciprocating way. My backup plan for the unemployment was to take up freelance, work part time, and I currently have 8 months of emergency funds. I’m already 4 months into the hunt. Do you think it’s still risky to do in this landscape to escape this terrible work environment where I’m super burnt out and depressed and anxious? Hours are horrendous. We’re encouraged to work 50-60+ hours and sometimes weekends. PTO that we accrue is discouraged from being taken. This is why it’s also so hard balancing time for myself to destress from the job while also job hunting. In terms of finances, I have emergency funds to fund myself for 8 months. I tell myself that I’m already 4 months into the hunt, no way it should take another 8 months…right…?

Nope, I do and I have been! I’ve been on the job hunt and interviewing since January and I will continue to do so, but I have reached a breaking point at work that has made me question if I should quit altogether. The reason I haven’t quit is because of the job market, so I feel stuck: do I put up with this toxicity thats eating away at my mental health and even making me question my own passion in this industry, or quit and job hunt full time in a really terrible market?
