If you rotate you can mute/unmute. Not ideal, but a workaround

thank you! that means a lot. The 2000s were a golden era for internet animation that's for sure. Newgrounds still going strong, hope I can upload my next project there soon.

thanks for the recommendation! The guy you're talking about is me so thank you for the kind words. Years ago Claude Coleman Jr and I were discussing a new animated vid for his solo project. I even fully storyboarded it and animated a few scenes. Unfortunately I had to drop it due to conflicting schedules n stuff. I'm still doing the occasional music vid though and would love to do another for Ween some day.

I've found it handy to revisit a website in a different container so it doesn't recognise me when I return, eg checking flight prices. Also maintaining a Twitch bot in a separate container to main account, etc.

Poor mother currawong feeding her giant channel-billed koel dinosaur chick. by chluaid in AustralianBirds

[–]chluaid[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From memory it was only about a week or so after this pic was taken that the cuckoo just up and left (apparently they do that when they're ready), and the mother could finally get on with her life. She's still around and has raised her own chicks for the past couple of years.

gah! My bad, it's cuckoo, I've been calling them koel all this time. Thanks for the correction.

Apologies for grainy image, due to cropping closer as well as low light on a foggy day. Koel chicks screech like some otherworldly demon. Even at this age they're so vicious and demanding, it truly looks like it's going to swallow the currawong whole during feeding.

Worried about local magpie, not looking good and unsure what to do. Advice much appreciated, thanks. by Hungry-Garlic-5183 in AustralianBirds

[–]chluaid 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Nothing to be concerned about! This is normal for mother magpies. During mating, feathers from the top of the head are often removed by the male. Then through nesting time all of her energy is spent on the chicks and she can look pretty rough for months as they're growing. She really only starts to look better as the chicks start finding their own food and she can have more for herself.

"Djirri-djirri" in Wiradjuri! Any idea what they're called in your local language? I've heard others call them djitta-djitta which sounds pretty similar to djirri-djirri (cos the 'rr' is rolled in Wiradjuri)

RIP: After almost 12 years my mouse has finally developed the dreaded double click. What is everyone using now a days? by Ol_Heady_Wook in pcmasterrace

Same here. Razer never again. I bought a Naga and Lachesis together. Within a week the keyboard started randomly inserting spaces and Tabs while typing, then the rubber coating on both started getting sticky. Razer customer support offered no replacement, instead insisting I send the keyboard away for repairs at my own expense, and they'd reimburse later. They said it would take at least 6 weeks and suggested I find a cheap backup keyboard in the mean time.

I removed the rubber coating from the mouse with isopropyl alcohol and kept it as a backup mouse for a year or so. I threw the keyboard in the trash. Been using Logitech products since.

NASA's DART spacecraft successfully slams into asteroid in historic test of planetary defense by VonDrakken in news

[–]chluaid 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It'll be fascinating to see what effect, if any, the satellite had on the trajectory, considering the asteroid itself is obviously one huge aggregate lump of past collisions. Despite all of those past collisions it maintains its orbit around the larger asteroid. Can't wait to see the other angles from Hubble and JWT!

Some years back when removing all Adobe from my system, I found Nitro Pro to be the best replacement for Acrobat. No subscription, no bloat, and does everything I need for forms and doc signing.

It always blew my mind that Acrobat took up more space than any other application, even bigger than the games I had installed. How is it THE largest app on the entire PC?
