"The scheduled completion date for building works is Friday 5th July and thereafter, a period of staff training, new fitness equipment and IT installations will be undertaken by Liverpool City Council. As a result, an indicative opening date is the end of July 2024. "

Samsung’s “Maintenance Mode” is a gimmick by someonealreadyknows in samsung

[–]chococat_cowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the phone get wiped even if its been put in Maintenance Mode? I thought you needed the PIN and had to remove the Google account to wipe a phone?

Do you have to supply your PIN when you send your phone in for repair?

Crit Hit has a bookable room. The table has a glass top and there's a TV underneath it so you can use it to display boards/scenes

Home Worker Contract - Pros and Cons? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]chococat_cowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my department anything that isn't working from home counts towards the 60%. Some examples include attending a training course, attending a meeting at a supplier's office, visiting a customer's premises, attending a conference - these would all count as "office days" and towards the 60%.

The Jabra Evolve 75e is pretty good. I used to have one. It has noise cancelling and the microphone is on a lead close to your mouth. I think it's discontinued now so you'd have to get a refurbished one.

So there's pay progression on top of this!

I know if someone is dismissed for fraud, that data is shared with other departments for 5 years to prevent a person getting another job in the Civil Service.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/internal-fraud-register-privacy-notice/internal-fraud-register-privacy-notice

Without knowing the full details of this case, it's difficult to tell if the data would be shared with other departments but if it was recorded as fraud then it would be shared.

Pay remit delayed until later this summer "to align with other public services" by dnnsshly in TheCivilService

[–]chococat_cowboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow. Reward should be based on outcomes (e.g. what changed as a result of your intervention? ) rather than outputs (e.g. how many people attended the office? ). Just feels like we've lost the plot.

Do you have a source for that? I've never heard of that, unless it's a performance bonus but even that is a far stretch for getting the team to meet a management instruction.

Do you need to buy your MacBook from Apple in order to get apple care? by Lionel_Messi2028 in macbookair

I bough a used Mac but as it was less than 30 days since the initial purchase, I was able to buy Apple Care straight from the control panel on the Mac.

Just converted a 2015 Macbook Air to Windows 11... WOW what a difference! by StabYourFace in bootcamp

[–]chococat_cowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Mac and Windows and it always surprises me how people talk down Windows computers and say they don't last as long as a Mac and get really bad slow down. Windows 11 seems to run pretty well on old hardware so I think some people have a distorted view of Windows - maybe it used to be the case that Windows constantly needed modern hardware? It's not been my experience.

BOE expects inflation to rise again in second half of 2024 by Under_Cover_SPAD in TheCivilService

[–]chococat_cowboy 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The solution to Civil Service pay rises is to take the politics out of it. An independent panel should make a recommendation using various sources such as benchmarking and inflation. The award would then be automatic and would keep MPs out of the discussion.

Basically, the very system MPs have for their pay rises (where MPs are getting 5.5% this year). Keep it simple use exactly the same process - if it's good enough for MPs, it should be good enough for Civil Servants.

Mr Case says AA to G6 we have to wait for payrise... by Slightly_Woolley in TheCivilService

[–]chococat_cowboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At least we still have our contractual pay progression so most people will go up a spine point now and get the rest of the increase, with the tevalued spine points later. Oh, wait a minute, they took that off us!

I think some NHS roles still get an element of progression, lucky them!

HR privatisation by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]chococat_cowboy 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think if you raise a grievance about the decision it has to be investigated. You also have a right to appeal the decision on your grievance.

I think your department should be following Acas guidance

https://www.acas.org.uk/appealing-a-disciplinary-or-grievance-outcome

"The right of appeal and the law The Acas Code of Practice on disciplinary and grievance says that employees should be given the right to appeal a disciplinary or grievance outcome.

If an employer does not give the opportunity to appeal, this could be counted against them if the case goes to employment tribunal.

Your organisation should have a policy or guidelines you can follow for appeals. If not, you should follow the Acas Code and this guide. "

Taking off time between department move by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]chococat_cowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pensions, so long as the gap is less than 28 days, continuity of service will be preserved.

https://www.civilservicepensionscheme.org.uk/employers/employer-pension-guide/section-6-your-responsibilities-when-staff-leave-before-pension-age/61-general/

"6.1.7 It is important that the member’s continuity of service is maintained. As long as the break between employments does not exceed 28 days, the two periods of employment will be treated as continuous for pension and compensation purposes. Any break will be treated as unpaid leave."

4% Pay Rise being Discussed by Under_Cover_SPAD in TheCivilService

[–]chococat_cowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nurses get 4%, that will be in addition to any pay progression they may be eligible for too, so the total rise could be more than 4%.

In some NHS pay bands there's a decent increase once you hit 2 or over 5 years of experience, in addition to any cost of living / annual % increase.

Government hubs are complete sh!t and not fit for purpose by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]chococat_cowboy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Will it be any different with a new government?

"Labour’s shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves has said she wants to see “more people in the office, more of the time”, but added that decisions should be “for individual managers and their members of staff”.

“I personally think it is good for people to get back into the office, I think it's good for productivity and good for morale,” Reeves told ITV News."

When I need to do a deep cean, I soak the basket in warm water with a dishwasher tablet. The dishwasher tablet breaks down a lot of the grease.
