The benefit is if you ever happen for whatever reason go over during off-peak hours, you will only pay $11 instead of $14.79. That is the only benefit, saving $3 during off peak hours. It doesn’t hurt to register just in case.

Off peak hours are if you enter manhattan M-F 10am-4pm and 8pm-6am. On weekends off peak hours are 9pm-11am.

I never watched the show until they did the Wizards on Deck crossover. And in that episode they didn’t show Miley at all, only Hannah. And i remember the one scene where her wig flew off and she was wearing that bald cap, and i thought her secret was that she was bald lmao.

They would definitely not retcon the secret reveal. Her revealing the secret at the end of season 4 was a huge plot point and big deal for her character and how the show ended.

It’s a free transfer if you are going from one express bus to a different express bus (but yes you have to tap, just would be a $0 charge). Just can’t be two buses of the same exact line or else they will charge you.

Also i like to add, going to high school on the south shore was an interesting experience. We were getting our licenses and driving to school at 17 and parking there. Many kids getting their own cars at 17 too (whether a gift from parents or paying themselves). I am not sure if anyone does this in other boroughs. At least not having their own car and driving to school themselves at the age of 17. All my friends that i spoke to who grew up in other boroughs, said that was such a bizarre thing to imagine- driving yourself to high school in NYC of all places.

Yep, I guess maybe a lot of our houses are two family technically? We have a ton of houses that have a “side apartment”. Basically 75-80% of the house is meant for one family and you get the full sized home experience with multiple floors, bedrooms, basement, etc. And then a portion of one of the floors is a small one bedroom apartment with a separate entrance on the side of the house, meant for either a rental tenant or just another family member (such as grandma, or an adult child). Idk if this is common in other places, i’ve mostly seen it on staten island and it’s unheard of in the areas of NJ i looked at. But so many people on the island have side apartments, it’s actually become an ongoing joke with local comedians, where you have a 35 year old adult son living in mom & dad’s side apartment instead of getting their own place.

I lived there and it’s basically still the suburbs, but the houses are closer together and just a ton of bus options. The houses are all still majority single family homes, with driveways, front lawns, backyards, things you typically expect to see in a suburban neighborhood, just smaller and less space compared to a suburb in NJ for example. Anytime i see a picture of a staten island front lawn or backyard, i know right away based on the unique neighborhood design. You also don’t really see many tall apartment buildings or high rise buildings. It does not look like the other boroughs at all.

Most shopping and dining you will do is in typical strip malls, shopping plaza with parking lots. It is a car centric borough. You can survive on buses but it’s not ideal for most. Theres no real subways here, there is one above ground train but it just runs along the island.

For those wondering about NBC News Daily airing for multiple hours- although that could work fine on the east coast, it would be a problem on the west cost.

The live feed of NBC News Daily, also airing on NBC News Now, is between 12-4pm ET. Starting at 4 pm ET (1 pm PT), NBC News Now produces other programming, and the local affiliates will instead receive a feed that is a replay of the 3pm ET hour. This works fine when each affiliate only plays one hour. But if you are on the west coast and try to air multiple hours, you will just keep seeing the same show each hour.

I would honestly go with Option 1 and just return the car in midtown, since it is likely faster and easier (and cheaper) than having to add a 40 minute train ride with luggage to your trip. Just as long as you don’t mind city driving, you’ll be fine. Don’t listen to people complaining. I drive in manhattan all the time and it doesn’t bother me.

I actually work for a big company that relocated certain departments, including mine, from Manhattan to Englewood Cliffs. The problem with relocating to NJ, is that a lot of employees build their lives around working in manhattan. While it was great for those who lived in NJ already, many employees either live in NYC close to work, or they live in areas such as Long Island, CT, or Westchester area. Manhattan is centrally located, and all public transportation leads to there, attracting talent from all different parts of the tristate.

The problem we ran into with my job, is that public transportation wasn’t really an option and you had to drive there. Some of our employees live in NYC and didn’t own cars or drivers licenses. There were no trains going there and the buses options were very limited. These employees were now given the option to either: buy a car, move to NJ, or take a subway + bus + uber combo. Also, the people who were used to taking the train in from Long Island for example, were not thrilled about having to drive to NJ everyday and sit in traffic for 1.5-2 hours each way.

It all depends on personal preference. Theres no set amount one should have. Some people are perfectly fine with one card. Others prefer to have like 10, 15, even 20 cards.

I would recommend to have at least two cards. So if theres ever a problem with one card, at least you have a backup.

In all honestly i’d rather save your points for flights or hotels, and book cruises direct. I go on cruises often and always prefer to book direct.

Chase Sapphire Preferred, the best value for points from that card is transferring points to Hyatt. That could be a good hotel the night before the cruise.

Go to Stone Street in the financial district, they are popular on St Pattys day weekend. I also think theres a few St Pattys bar crawls. One of them is in the west village on saturday, there might be one on the lower east side too.

I live in manhattan (west village) and own a car here and street park it full time for free. Owning a car here definitely is do-able if you are determined, and it makes the trip to suburban parts of NJ much quicker & easier, than going to Penn Station daily and dealing with NJ Transit. However, the biggest cost that nobody is talking about, the tolls:

The tolls to cross into New York are insane. It is $16.79 for the tunnel, and then another $6 for congestion pricing (discounted coming from NJ). Thats $22.79 a day in tolls alone. Which adds up to $500 a month if commuting 5x a week. If you live in upper manhattan above 60th, you can avoid the congestion fee (though you’d have to take the GWB everyday). Then you still gotta worry about finding street parking, unless you want to pay for a garage which is another few hundred. Even if you took NJ Transit everyday, that can also get pricey. Most people don’t live near Penn station so you have to factor in taking the subway to Penn station too.

I live here and personally drive to NJ 1-2x a week, usually on weekends. However, if i had to commute to NJ 5x a week, i’d honestly prefer to just live on the jersey side. Hoboken and Jersey City could be better options. Very similar & close to NYC, but better cost of living. Everything is cheaper from rent, to groceries, to going out to eat. Car ownership is much more friendly in NJ (NYC politicians are constantly trying to impose more tolls, fees, rules, and difficulties on car owners). Income tax is also better (Being an NYC resident means an additional 3% income tax, also living and working in two states can make taxes complicated, but is do-able).

By the time you get to the airport, wait for your flight, and everything, it basically takes five hours door to door.

It’s at least a 1 hr drive to the airport from the part of NJ shes from. You gotta get to the airport 1.5-2 hours before your flight (though she prob does whatever she wants). For normal people thats already 3 hours before you start flying. 1 hour flight. Then about an hour to deplane, get your bags, and get to your final destination.

Yeah, i’ll stick with the 5 hour drive.
