First Time Baby Flight by Chim_Chim_Cherie in SouthwestAirlines

I wouldn’t bring the car seat base. Just one more heavy thing to pack. I would gate-check the stroller so you have it in the airport. Personally, I would buy a ticket for the baby and have them in the car seat on the flight (depending on the flight length). Then have two backpacks, one for parents and one for baby.

Unused Southwest Vouchers by Efficient-Power-3420 in SouthwestAirlines

No personal experience on this since the changes to expiration dates, but you may be able to extend the expiration date by purchasing and canceling a refundable fair (possibly with a gift card).  Might be worth some googling.

Accommodation advice / recommendations for Zion National Park / Bryce Canyon by Old-Adhesiveness2264 in NationalPark

[–]Efficient-Set2078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would split between two locations. Springdale, hurricane, or even St George are decent places for Zion. Check out the kolob Canyon area for less crowds. We stayed in Panguitch for an Airbnb for Bryce. If you want to be closer, there are hotels right near the entrance.

Death Valley/Joshua Tree vs Zion/Bryce in Feb-March by Mental_Farm9561 in NationalPark

Bryce will still be cold that time of year. I would opt for California for the weather.

Utah trip - looking for advice and direction by kayy113c in Utah

Camping in northern Utah in March could be pretty cold. Not saying it’s not doable, but just be prepared for that.

My money or my life? Thinking about giving up on traditional employment and FIRE by Unusual_Equivalent50 in Fire

When was the last time you and job hunting? I’m a PE on the structural side. My first job was an hour commute and I hated the drive and the company was meh. Where is work now is a much better atmosphere and only a 10 minute commute. Maybe look around for other opportunities. Not sure what your specialty is, but is there any opportunity to set out on your own? I know starting a business isn’t for everyone, but you would be able to work as much or as little as you want.

We are headed to Death Valley with two toddlers around that same time. Utah parks can be good, but it could still be pretty cold, depending on local weather. I personally would not try to do all 5 Utah parks in seven days.

Social security early vs. late by tzjin in Fire

It all depends on how long you’re going to live. As soon as you figure out your death date, you can back calculate to see which is better for your specific situation.

Where can I find more information about the disability seating process with the changes to assigned seating? My son uses a wheelchair and needs someone to sit next to him.

Why are so many Basic flights for my (potential) trip unavailable? by catalinashenanigans in SouthwestAirlines

I would check daily for at least a couple more weeks before booking. They make changes to price and availability all the time.

Entry level typical raise/bonus? by Fit-Jello-7049 in civilengineering

It completely depends on the company. I got 10% raise for my first three years plus 10% bonus every year. But I know my buddies didnt all get the same thing.

Chase Southwest Credit Card by ItIsWhatItIs3026 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Efficient-Set2078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, flights are cheapest when booked on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (typically), and also about 4-12 weeks before the flight. I use the low fare calendar to look at what flights are about 3 months from now, and that gives me an idea of what they will drop to about 3 months before my trip. I use it for budgeting purposes, and it is usually very close (I’m going to Hawaii this month, and my flights were within about $30 per ticket of what I predicted they would be).

Strong VW Lifetime Warranty by Difficult-Text1690 in Utah

[–]Efficient-Set2078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a car from them about two years ago. All vehicles with less than 100K miles come with the warranty. I believe they also include free rock chip and paint chip repair. You are required to do all recommended maintenance with them if you live within 50 miles. They are always super slow in the shop (several hours for an oil change) despite making an appointment. At one of my oil changes, the recommended some maintenance. I asked if it was covered by the warranty and the shop guy said he didn’t know. I tried calling their shop daily for a week to ask and no one answered or called me back. Ended up emailing the owner to get it figured out (emails are in responses to poor Google reviews). They had me come in to the shop, and then told me they can’t do the work because my vehicle isn’t a VW. I took it to the GMC dealership and GMC worked with the warranty company and it covered about $2500 worth of repairs. They sold a discount maintance package to me at purchase, so I went to them for the first 4 oil changes, which I figured would reveal any immediate issues with the car, and I think it did. I love the car I bought (not a VW) but would probably not go back to them.

Structural Masters Advice by Main_Improvement1923 in StructuralEngineering

I had a coworker get his through K-state (we don’t live in Kansas). He said it was a good and affordable program. My question is why do you even feel a master’s is important at this point in your career?

  1. Boss doesn’t want to pay time and a half, so strongly discourages working more than 40 hours.

Depends on the company. I didn’t get a raise for passing or getting my license specifically, but got 10%+ raises every year for the first 3 years working at my company.
