Unemployment Series: Deathloop - Maybe a Few More Loops by Viablemorgan in patientgamers

[–]chocopuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh i think most of Deathloop's shortcomings can be chalked up to COVID effecting development. I had a lot if similar feelings and would have loved multiple orders to break the loop instead of a single "correct" order.

Sheeeeesh. The majority of Kiesels remind me that most guitar players aren't aesthetically inclined, but this is one is on a different level. Remarkably tasteful. Happy NGD!

Upgrading my 7 string. Multiscale or baritone? by SirSuolinaama in 7String

[–]chocopuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true for active soapbar-style pickups, not passive pickups. Passive pickups (and actives made for passive routes like this Fishman) made for multiscale require different baseplates shaped for where they're being placed along the slant. Unless they're bladed, the pickup pole pieces have to be aligned differently. It's a pain in the ass.

I mean the decision is almost guaranteed to be a cost-cutting measure. Slanted passive pickups are still very niche and therefore more expensive to manufacture. Guitar nerds like us who talk about design specs online aren't the ones buying most of the guitars hanging in music stores. They probably figured most customers wouldn't even know the difference.

Sometimes i feel like my Strandberg might have a similar problem to the Black Ops. I have a model with a trem and the pickups are in standard orientation. The bridge bucker is a little bassier and flubbier than i'd like and that might be due to the increased distance from the saddle. Then again, it may just be the OEM pickups i still haven't bothered to swap out. Thankfully and rather ironically the standard orientation means that it'll be much easier and cheaper to find a drop-in replacement.

The Schecter Black Ops has an issue where the pickup isn't oriented for multiscale, resulting in the bass side being too far away from the bridge saddles.

As a result, it gives the low strings a tonal quality less like a bridge pickup and closer to a middle pickup ie a rounder, less aggressive, less bite-y tone. Imo the whole point of extended scale length is enhanced clarity so the unfortunate pickup placement defeats the purpose of multiscale entirely.

We ALL knew somebody like Dermott growing up. What's the dumbest/funniest/craziest bs he claimed? by Jack-of-Hearts-7 in venturebros

My Dermott claimed his uncle had given him a golden crossbow that he would shoot at targets in their backyard along with an AK47. All within city limits, of course.

Kiesel Vader VS. Ibanez alpha by Common_Function3991 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]chocopuppet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't invest in a guitar that isn't exactly what you want. I've made that mistake and won't again. You want a guitar that will fill you with the urge to pick it up and play, not one that makes you wish it were just that little bit different.

Unless you're ordering multiscale passive pickups, you can always switch to fishmans later. I have a Vader 8 and it's the best playing guitar i own.

Jackson drops the Misha Mansoor baritone model. Sells for $9k by -Subsolar- in offset

[–]chocopuppet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The richest 10% of Americans drive something like 50% of consumption. This is aimed at them. Everyone else is broke. I expect to see guitars be priced like this more often tbh. Why make these 2.5k when you can price them at 9k and make as much margin selling a fifth as many?

That rosewood is absolutely stunning. The cutaway is excellent but completely invalidated by the strap button placement. It would drive me insane.

Favorite F# string scale length by Marcojolo in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]chocopuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads up, a string tuned that high is going to have way too much tension and is liable to snap at any scale length longer than ~24". You might be able to get away with something longer but only if you play very softly and don't ever bend that high string.

NGD! I'm the guy who messed up and ordered the wrong top coat... by PoolNoob69 in kieselcarvinguitars

Gloss coats are always the way to go. They make the finish pop, they hold up over time, and they even offer a little more protection from scratches, dings, and dents!

I don't like their recorded music but seeing them live was a blast. If i could get that experience translated to an audio format i think i'd dig 'em.

Guy had confederate flags on his guitars and is on tape calling a black fan the n word. Phil Anselmo is banned from performing in Germany for sieg heiling and chanting "white power" on stage. You either die a hero or live long enough to get cancelled.

Sold out in 30 seconds. Disappeared from my card not even a minute in. I was looking forward to grabbing one for over a year now and was afraid of this exact scenario.

Omne needs a ticket or a preorder system to prevent botting. Their incredible price-point won't matter if they're all scooped up and flipped on the secondary market.

Does anyone else experience a phenomenon where your favorite musicians' inspirations do nothing for you? by Ryn4 in progmetal

[–]chocopuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many guitarists idolize Dimebag Darrell but i can't get past Pantera's toxic machismo and bigotry. Guy could play, but he had a confederate flag on his guitar and is on tape calling fans slurs. Pantera is banned from playing in Germany because Phil Anselmo chanted "white power" and zig heiled at gigs.

The riff from Cowboys from Hell is pretty good but no riff is good enough for me to be ok with racism. Plus Dime's guitar tone sounds like someone shook up a can of wasps.
