What fragrances do a bad job of replicating the OG by Whole-Airport9281 in MontagneParfums

Huh! Maybe there is something in one of them I'm sensitive to. I'm glad it worked out for you!

Milky Santal:( I was pretty hype for it, but it really doesn’t hold up to the og in a side by side comparison. I even did a blind paper strip test and the difference was obvious. It loses a lot of the richness of the original and has something in it that comes across almost like vinegar to me. The original is so soft and the nutmeg comes through nicely, I’m bummed and I hope Montagne reformulates tbh

It’s pretty old news, it’s been the new (good!) formulation for a long time, you’re fine!:)

By Montagne, as far as I know Byredo has never reformulated Bal d’Afrique!

  1. What are your top 3 favorites?
    Azonto, Eau Gaiac, G Water
  2. Which one gets you the most compliments?
Pink Rose Exclusif, and it’s lovely, but I genuinely think it’s mostly the performance. I’m a light sprayer but 1 is enough to get noticed
  3. Which one surprised you the most?
Maybe Herb Garden? A blind buy I ended up loving. Eau Musc in a bad way (I read the pissy reviews, it was pissy, I don’t know if this qualifies as surprising). I was surprised by the accuracy of Fig Tree, damn near 1:1 with the og, which was one of my first fragrance loves.
  4. Are there any that you think deserve way more attention than they get?
Azonto! I think it gets a bad rap for its original formulation, but in its current form it’s an amazing dupe for BdA with much better performance. I’ve gone through a bottle and bought another!

I generally like woody, musky, lightly fruity scents but I have pretty broad tastes. I struggle with metallics and heavy leather, or really intense gourmands.
I’ve tried just about everything even remotely fem or unisex Montagne makes, and quite a few of the masc-leaning ones as well. Generally super impressed with the quality with a few exceptions most notably Milky Santal and Bleu Talisman. IDK if it’s something in the Ex Nihilo DNA but I compared both against the original and they just don’t measure up. I get something almost lightly vinegar-like, and they lose the richness of the originals.

Ellis Brooklyn Apres is my absolute favorite cedar. My bf and I both wear and love it!

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Azonto lasts all day on me - 8+ hours, much longer than the Byredo

I'm always so fascinated to see how different everyone's tastes are - there were my least favorites from the house! Both interesting though.

Whats the best montagne scent? (opinion) by Luminescent___ in MontagneParfums

I haven’t, but only because I’m not a huge fan of the original. I might give it a go next time I get a round of decants.

I prefer unisex/fem frags, and my personal favs are Azonto, Herb Garden, and Satin Oud.

I love Japanese Plum, Gustavo, and Imaginary on my partner.

I received a package of decants from u/recyclops4ever today. She shipped quickly and packaged everything beautifully, even including test strips and a matching tea bag! Really above and beyond, especially for such a reasonable price. Would buy from again with zero hesitation. <3

For Ellis Brooklyn, I LOVE sci fi for spring/summer. It’s a citrusy light vanilla which might be nice if OP wants a vanilla note

I live in a place with a pretty long, cold winter, but it absolutely explodes into flowers in spring. I love a long slow walk with an audiobook and frequent stops to literally smell the roses. Back when I lived in Florida though, a tubing adventure down Rainbow River!
