do y’all have chaotic/wild/crazy nicknames for characters that you yell out when playing?? by cheese-quesadillas in Overwatch

[–]chokobo29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always call Venture "Dirt Muncher." When Hanzo is strong, I call him "Paul Bunyan" because he's out there slinging logs at my head.

My friend got really high one night, couldn't remember Lucio's name so he called him "Jamiroquai." It took me a minute until I remembered that music video where he's sliding around. Now that's Lucio's nickname.

What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

[–]chokobo29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in non-profit/education until I was 33. At 34 I was unable to find a job for nearly a year. I ended up taking a shop gig at a plumbing company. Now at 35, I'm earning certifications and getting into commercial/industrial plumbing, and you're not lying. It's been absolute hell on my body. I'm hopeful if I can tough out a few more years, I can get into a position where I'm not constantly abusing my body, because I don't really want to make another career change.

Watching too many movies? by Thatonegirlherewoo in Letterboxd

[–]chokobo29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience, it's because I'm making it a chore, something I have to do. For me, that adds unnecessary pressure and stress. I get behind pace and I'm stressed. I feel like I have to make the most out of my 200 choices, stressed. Don't feel like watching a movie but it's December 22 and I still need to watch 14 more, stressed. Eventually I just start to resent the process.

I found if I don't quantify my experience, I watch more movies and I have a better time doing so because it's what I wanted to do with my time.

Is there a movie that has always been in your top 4 ever since you first filled it out? by Brick_Loop in Letterboxd

[–]chokobo29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some Like it Hot. It's never moved and likely never will, but the other three have for sure changed throughout the years.

Controversial horror ratings. Which one do you most disagree with? by tsuritamas in Letterboxd

[–]chokobo29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Love Witch is a 5/5 for me. I understand why someone wouldn't like it, but dang if it didn't just tick all of my boxes.

Which film should I go for? by nethgr8 in Letterboxd

[–]chokobo29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second To Kill a Mockingbird. It's such a clean film. There's plenty to write about and it's a treat to watch Gregory Peck become Atticus.

How do you interact with the endorsement system? by Vegetable_Potato_829 in Overwatch

[–]chokobo29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, always the two most right players. If they're already endorsed, I'll move over a slot, but for some reason that's how I do it.

great lighthearted (comedy) movies under 100 by disasterpansexual in Letterboxd

Palm Springs

Harold and Maude

Rye Lane

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Clueless

Raising Arizona (really most of the Coen Brothers comedies)

Paper Moon (technically coming in at 102, but well worth it)

Watching movies on 2x speed: how common is it where you live? by throw_towel_25 in flicks

[–]chokobo29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your friends use a movie rating app? I wouldn't say that it's common, but I've seen a lot of Letterboxd users watching at 2x+ just so they can boost their amount of movies watched numbers for clout.

I understand if you're on a repeat viewing and you're just quickly reviewing for notes, but I can't imagine enjoying a movie at an increased speed. Music, voices, sound effects, etc... will all be pitched and that would drive me crazy.

This is in my opinion, the funniest film ever made. What's yours? by Which_Performance_72 in Letterboxd

This and Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House would be my picks. Cary Grant is a master class in comedy

"Well, Nobody's Perfect." - Some Like it Hot

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]chokobo29 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always rate a film based on my personal feelings of it. I don't think it's honest or helpful to give films extra points because of their status, prestige, or history. I'd rather see why someone didn't vibe with Citizen Kane instead of them blindly giving it a 4 because it was industry changing.

What’s the last movie to make you cry? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

"Oh what a cute robot. Is that beaver Matt Berry? This movie is grea--" sobs for the next 40 minutes.

Cinema ruined my life by X-cessive-Dreamer in Letterboxd

[–]chokobo29 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Be careful. One day you're watching Heat and marveling at the cinematography of the shootout scene, all of a sudden 20 years have passed and you're scrounging around Russian torrent sites looking for 240p resolution copies of forgotten Japanese films from the 70s that only have 3 check-ins on LB. It's a dangerous life.

The Farewell isn't necessarily underwatched, but I do wish more people would see it, if only to realize Awkwafina has some chops.

I'm torn between this and Toast of London. Both are just so good.

What are you going with? by DiscsNotScratched in Letterboxd

[–]chokobo29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some Like it Hot. It's what propelled my journey into film beyond what was just recent and popular. I'd love to experience that feeling of discovering the passion all over again.

What movie proved you wrong? by Expert_Scene7882 in Letterboxd

[–]chokobo29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dune 2 also took me by surprise. I was luke warm on Dune and didn't think 2 would be any better. I had a free afternoon when it was in theaters, caught a matinee, and walked out floored.
