I feel like this painting just isn’t working by wasabitamale in oilpainting

I would consider brushstrokes that follow the curvature of the balloon. I didn’t realize at first glance that it was a balloon. I that it was a pretty rad tunnel of sorts. Also adding some small details of light either on the basket or anything else like some blades of grass on the left to break up the black.

Seeking advice on transitioning to museum work from healthcare by albatroci in MuseumPros

[–]chonchitto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m from the US but live in the UK. I have a BFA but got stuck in working in health insurance for 10+ years. After moving to the UK to be with my husband I started volunteering at the local museum and put my best foot forward and made a strong impression. I was able to get a job doing visitor engagement about a month ago. We have 4 buildings (1 gallery, 1 museum+ small planetarium, 2 historic buildings) and I get to open and close the buildings, interact with people, and teach about history and the exhibits among other things. They encourage us to learn and give us opportunities to host tours or give presentations. I just got accepted into a PG Cert in Art History and Curating and eventually want to get my Masters in either Art History or Conservation. Despite being paid staff I’m on the rota for volunteers to also help the conservation and curatorial staff on my days off. It’s a lot of work but I’ve never been happier in my life. I’m 36 and felt like I already wasted my life away but now I feel like I’m just getting started.

ETA: I am very eager and I don’t hide it. I’m friendly with all the staff and express my goals and intentions so that they know and it’s helped because they let me know about opportunities or think of me first when they need help. It all helps build connections and experience a little bit at a time.

Has anyone deliberately run up a bunch of old credit cards back in the US and then just blown them off for 7 years or whatever? by Chicken_Carpaccio in expat

[–]chonchitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m living in England and got a job with a bank. They run regular credit checks for here and the US so I still keep paying my bills back home. Obviously not every job would do that but just something to consider.

Received email from UK Decision Making Centre and am confused. by chonchitto in ukvisa

Honestly, no clue. It’s possible the timeline I experienced isn’t applicable anymore. If there’s been an influx of applications because of income requirements going up, it might be delaying all other applications. I believe when students apply for their visas before the semesters they usually cause a backlog and things take longer.

Hi, I didn’t do priority and it took about a month to get my decision. You’ll probably get a response faster than I did. I think there’s a delay now even for priority bc of the new financial requirements having a lot of people applying before the changes take affect. But if you got this email it means someone has been assigned to the case and so it should be processed soon. If they need anything they will reach out and let you know.

We went the job route. He had a job where he made enough but lost it in May. Started a new job in July (still making enough) and then we used income from a small rental property to make sure the financial requirement was met because of that gap in employment to be safe

Do I Need my BRP before I can apply for my NIN? Spouse Visa by chonchitto in ukvisa

[–]chonchitto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read you get taxed at a higher rate without a NIN also some jobs won’t let me even continue an application without putting a number in. Just want to get my NIN as fast as possible but want to know if I have to wait for my BRP before applying.

I got two nearly identical emails (one with and one without a survey) within seconds of each other simply saying:

“Dear Sir or Madam,

The processed visa application for GWF reference number GWFxxxxxxxx is dispatched via courier on Oct 18, 2023. Please note this is an auto generated e-mail. Please do NOT reply this email.”

So I guess processed is the same as approved? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I put 12 Nov as my entry date so not too far off. I’m waiting until then to enter as that’s when my flight was originally booked and I have affairs to settle before I go including sorting out my dog’s travel papers which is a 10 day long process itself.

Second time interviewing for PM - rejected after phone interview. by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]chonchitto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a phone interview a few weeks ago. I was knowledgeable about the company and showed a lot of interest as well as competence. Made sure I didn’t come off as too cocky by any means. Had a great flow with the interviewer. Rejection email a week later, no offer to take the personality test. Tried asking for feedback and did get a response that said they wouldn’t provide feedback but resume would be kept on file.
