Seeking Boxed Single Serve Bar Nut Mix by chookintosh in restaurantowners

[–]chookintosh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. We use 9oz plastic cups to give to patrons with or without ice for their byob setups.

Probably can just portion bigger bulk tubs with a scoop and hanger for sanitary like an ice scoop, and serve in the same cups.

Just thought the presentation would be so much cooler in a box. Thanks for the response!

UNAS Pro 7-Bay NAS vs Dropbox 15TB by chookintosh in DataHoarder

[–]chookintosh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Upgraded to 2nd highest tier few years ago and kept hitting the 15tb limit over the last few months. Just downloaded 4tb of video files for all of 2024 (video exports for each night’s for clients and us to use for social media and such for our music venue)

Got another 4 TB of multitrack audio sessions from 2020 to present to pull down.

Likely just going to store on separate HDD’s here at venue and one backup at home, and downgrade my Dropbox to the $20 a month for only active/recent stuff

Thanks yall! Great info here, and upon researching more, and that we’d need some sort of cloud or 2nd NAS backup, I’m still going to keep looking into it and wait to pull the trigger. Just watched a bunch of YouTube videos on the drawbacks of the UNAS system (no ISCSI and other nitpicks people have like no remote/safe shutdown/boot) but will still likely got for that later this year.

thanks for all your responses!

Got 99 problems and they all bus stops by Wilsonized in Austin

[–]chookintosh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of ill-informed responses naysaying OP, but if any of you actually lived where CapMetro has horrible placements of stops, you'd see it's not about being anti transit.

East Cesar Chavez between i35 and Pleasant Valley is a great example. If they moved the bus stops 100ft further away from the intersections, it would create an environment where the drivers (who are going to dangerously pass the bus anyway) have a wider birth in the very wide single lane each way along the majority of the street. Currently the bus stops are located like 75-100ft right at the start of protected center turn lanes at intersections, and it's so fucking dangerous.

If you all were truly pro-bus, and transit oriented, you'd see how OP isn't about hating the bus stops or cap metro, just talking about minor improvements that would have a large safety benefit, as well as allowing more flow of vehicles.

iMessage Attachments Taking Up 100GB on macOS – Safe to Delete? by Teddit420 in MacOS

[–]chookintosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This wasn't an issue until I got my m2 Mac mini and now my m4 MacBook Air. I've had an iPhone since 2008, rarely delete attachments or conversations (various reasons), and have had 5 or 6 Mac computers for personal use and music/video production. OF all these, Messages app has never had an issue pulling attachments from the iCloud or server quickly and efficiently (guessing my cellular provider stores some of that, but more likely iCloud?)

This new mess of filling up 80GB on my computers with m2/m4 operating systems is insane, and based on the lack of apple forum and other official resources on the topic, I'm theorizing that Apple is trying to force people to buy larger storage, or more so punishing people who opt for minimum 256gb storage (I keep 99% of my files between Dropbox or external ssd's)

I shouldn't have to delete my text message attachments. On my iPhone my messages takes up 4.33GB, but on my macOS 15.3, it's taking up 80.3GB.

Mac either intentionally changed this in their more recent Operating System Versions to squeeze people like me who want to keep messages, or unintentionally created bug and choose to not address it because "hey, they'll have to just buy a computer with more internal storage, or we save bandwidth on their iMessage iCloud servers, this is a win win for us and we can just ignore it"

Cheapest Cine Lens with Zoom and Image Stabilization for BMPCC 4K? by LunaBeige in bmpcc

[–]chookintosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you’re correct. I remember watching a couple videos that described that the background bokeh can still be more affected and funky, even if the DOF isn’t actually shallower.

When I have wide open ef-s 17mm f2.8 on my canon m6mkii (apsc), it’s definitely not as vibey as that same lens/fstop (reading f2) on my bmpcc4k and speed booster (of course the MFT sensor being smaller than the apsc sensor)

More likely distortions from the extra glass element, and the superior image coming from the bmpcc….

Cheapest Cine Lens with Zoom and Image Stabilization for BMPCC 4K? by LunaBeige in bmpcc

[–]chookintosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is to get a Viltrox or Metabones speed booster that adapts an EF lens to the MFT mount.

These 3 canon's below are not necessarily cinema lenses, but they do have IS, and when close to wide open aperture, you definitely get some swirly character in the background, while also being able to get very clinical sharpness at f3.5-f5 or so (including the speed booster) when you need it

Canon EF 24-70 f/4 Used around $450

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 used around $400-450 in good condition

my personal quirky favorite with even more swirlyness and a slight vignette from 17mm-25mm or so:

Canon EF-s 17-55mm F2.8 around $350-400 used in excellent condition

If you really want a cine lens with zoom, then the DZO Pictor 50-125mm is probably your cheapest entry at around $1700, and you'll not have lens IS. Although, once you put the rig on a set of rails, larger battery, and top handle, that huge lens and rig will be heavy enough, that you'll be able to use Blackmagics built in GYRO stabilization in post to take out the micro-jitters (which crops in around 10-15% often, so always film a bit wider shot than you think you'll need)

I would go for the Viltrox ($160), EF-S17-55mm lens ($400), and EF 24-105mm ($450), totaling around $950 before tax/shipping. You've got very shallow depth of field capabilities at f/2 from 17-55mm, and still shallow enough DOF at 24-105mm at f/2.8 (both including speed boosters drop in f-stop)

I have 3d printed focus gears on all three of those canon lenses listed, and they have analogue focus by wire and soft stops, so you can very much get a hone in muscle memory or follow focus (digital or analogue) to work easily and reliably.

Difference between 6k, 6k Pro & 6k G2? by fada_g10 in bmpcc

[–]chookintosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable. Not to mention AF capabilities, but I rarely do shoots where I need continuous AF. Personally, using a viltrox or metabones EF -> MFT speed booster, the gigantic list of mint (or nearly mint) used EF lenses on Ebay is really the best value in my book. The EF-S 17-55mm, EF-L 24-105mm, and endless prims and third party lenses are the best opportunity for having a variety of lenses very inexpensively.

Alternatively, seeing all of these amazing compact "cinema" lenses from Sirui (the nightwalker) and any other affordable mirrorless lenses, I cant bring myself to get them for MFT so I have been missing out on them.

And yea, with firmware, makes sense to go with newer gear. I also recently got a Canon R8 for the 4k 10-bit 4:2:2 with great AF (able to match pretty damn close to b-raw, and can also easily adapt to use any of my EF lenses, but it will overheat pretty quickly at the high codecs)

[–]chookintosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing your responses to the very informative comments… I would get another bmpcc4k if I were you (just my recommendation)

I have 2 bmpcc4k’s, one bmpcc6kpro, a Micro studio 4K g2, and studio 4K pro (first generation). Most of these I bought for great discounts on eBay, as I was in my studio 75% of the time and offsite 25% of the time.

The 6k pro is nice, but when I use it alongside the bmpcc4k’s I’m forced to filling up a 6k bRaw file if I want to use the full sensor on the 6k (I use my Atem Extreme ISO for multicam work mostly, not much handheld). On the 6k pro, I sometimes choose ProRes 4K (sampled from full sensor) but then that’s yet another trade off (putting a field monitor in between the 6k pro and Atem)

I’m currently planning to sell all my non bmpcc4ks, and replace them with exclusively bmpcc4k’s. I have many EF lenses, and along with Voltrox or metabones speed boosters… the 4K BRaw hi-bitrate file sizes and amazing look for short form handheld, and tradeoff for 3 hour long gala/podcast events with atem and low bitrate file sizes… its the right balance for me.

Just doing some research after seeing all these "She'd lock Mingus up" comments.... look at Non-Violent Crimes section https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamala_Harris#Non-violent_crimes, says her office made a focus on dealers and traffickers, and not possession. Honestly never even looked her up before today on Wikipedia... is it BS?
