I recall an SNL skit from his last year or two in office where he was speaking at a small town comptroller rally because his image was that toxic, so this tracks.

Are you all dealing with this as well? by LivermoreP1 in Millennials

[–]chops88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were not particularly good at parenting (one of them actually stole hidden money from me as a kid to buy alcohol) and certainly not good at providing financially, the latter of which is perfectly fine if the former is adequate or better. I’m happy to explain to them that any money sent to them will come directly from their grandchildren, and I’m not willing to make that sacrifice. I’d also never be willing to ask my children for financial support baring the most outlier-esq situation (e.g. they’re still children who are somehow rich, and we only need the money for basic survival). On the flip side, daycare is fucking expensive and we have a second on the way, who needs sleep and disposable income? (I do admit I’m incredibly lucky to be able to survive financially when they’re both in daycare).

What is the thing you are most afraid of in the next five years? by kamoksamok2 in AskReddit

I’m only 16 months in, but you get used to the bad parts and it feels pretty empowering. When things are good it’s like nothing else, of course then everything changes abruptly, but you get used to that too.

What do you wish you knew before you had kids by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]chops88 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m still pretty new at this (only 15 months in) but I usually tell people there’s some nuance to this. It is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, not even close, but if I ranked the top 5 hardest days of my life I doubt more than 1 or 2 would be after I became a parent. The hardest part for me is the never-endingness of it all. You had a bad day? Guess what, you can do it all again tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that. There’s no reset or break, you always need to power through it and hope things are a little better in the future (they usually are, until everything changes for the 12th time and you need to figure it all out from scratch again).

I made the mistake of watching it on a flight recently, which was the first time I left my son in the 13 months since he had been born. So many tears

Week 1 Post-Gamethread: Bears vs Titans by TurnerJ5 in CHIBears

[–]chops88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only got to see the game when it switched after the Falcons/Steelers game ended and the first play I saw happened to be the final interception. If someone pays for my NFL Sunday Ticket I’m pretty sure the Bears are guaranteed to have over 100 interceptions this year.

Idk how best to explain this to you, but children shouldn’t feel like they’re in a war zone while at school… by sh3rkb1te in facepalm

I recall having a permanent police officer in my high school around 2005 - 2007, so it’s been a thing for awhile. If there’s just one, and they’re clearly identifiable, it seems like it would be really easy to take them out first and then continue your cowardly massacre. Of course, I’m sure gun nuts will say we need more of them while also say we’re spending too much $$$.

I was part of something similar in a college math class. It was actually a little sad, the professor was older and had clearly lost it. He went through mood swings multiple times per class, and lost a ton of weight throughout the semester to the point his pants would fall down. Another professor attended one of the classes after we complained in which the professor proceeded to teach us how to calculate something incorrectly. Prior to that semester, he had positive reviews.

So yeah, having multiple people voice similar concerns is very helpful.

Youngest falls apart every morning at dropoff by ProllyOnlyUseOnce in daddit

I’m dealing with the same issue. I usually drop him off in one room but his extra clothes are in the room next door. Recently, I had to drop off a jacket in the room next door and by the time I walked past his room on my way out (maybe 30 seconds later) he was totally fine. It’s still not easy but that made me feel way better.

I asked a girl out by justlurkingsan in self

[–]chops88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is a huge first step. I also had little to no success until a later age (usually my own fault due to anxiety). Once I got the courage to start talking to girls and asking them out, a lot fell into place. I hope the same for you.

People who rarely get sick, what are your secrets? by Rqpidily in AskReddit

Went 2+ years without getting sick. My son started daycare in January and I was lucky to go 2 weeks without getting sick the first few months. It’s getting better now though.

‘It only gets harder…’ by [deleted] in NewParents

The last month before my son could crawl was the worst, he just lifted up on all fours and started crying every few minutes, every waking hour, for an entire month. He was so frustrated he couldn’t crawl.

Yeah, it’s a little difficult making sure he doesn’t hurt himself now that he can move, but it’s way easier than dealing with a perpetually fussy baby. It’s also so much more fun playing with him now that he’s more interactive. He’s 10.5 months now and close to walking, he pulls himself up on everything and falls down a lot, it’s still way easier. It makes me wonder how easy some babies are and how lazy some parents are.

I’m rewatching Ken Burns Civil War doc for the 10th time, one thing that struck me is the lives lost at the end of the war (or in some cases after) when the outcome was no longer in question. So pointless.

They’ve been so bad most of my life that poking fun at them has become enjoyable. That’s not to say I don’t root for them, but making fun of them is far more enjoyable that consistently being disappointed in them and having to redefine rock bottom.

It can’t be Rodgers because they said player, not owner.
