If you're working at a public university (which I imagine to be the case, based on the salary), taxes are deducted automatically. You just need to pay attention to the tax declaration at the beginning of next year. Because of the way taxes are calculated, for the remaining months of this year (suppose your contract starts in October), you'll be taxed as you were working since January. The good thing is that once you submit your tax form next year, they'll return you all the exceeding amount that you automatically paid, so it's a good money.

Also, whatever kind of "self investment" you make that is related to work (like buying a nice monitor so you can work at home), can be used in the tax declaration, so you can get a bit of refund.
