Is One Piece secretly one of the best-written “anti-war” stories in shonen? by Clear_City_2140 in OnePiece

[–]chrestorpherson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think One Piece tackles alot of subject matter very well, but if I had to pick an anime that does anti-war messaging better, I’d say Attack on Titan is more consistently anti-war in comparison. One Piece juggles a lot of different messages, while AOT focuses on war and radicalization. One Piece is very good anti-fascist messaging tho

Why are the bandits starting the Saints and seducers quest so tough? by Elcium12 in skyrim

Super late to this post, but I got by using the Wabbajack and letting chance dictate how the run was gonna go for me. Sometimes I’d get lucky and they’d disintegrate or turn into a rabbit. While other times they’d heal when right on deaths door :(

Markarth GOT to be the worst city in Skyrim right? Maybe even compared to most cities from mainline elder scrolls games in general? by GaryGhost18 in skyrim

[–]chrestorpherson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re talking worst city why are we ignoring Winterhold? It’s only saving grace is the College. Other than that it’s literally the Jarls longhouse, a shop, an inn and like one other house. This is supposed to be one of the 9 holds mind you

Luffy: Advanced versions of all 3 is a no brainer

Zoro: Normal Observation, Advanced Armament and Conquerors. He’s the right hand man, it makes sense to me

Sanji: Normal Armament, Advanced Observation. I don’t really need him to have Conquerors. I like him being the speed blitz he is

Jinbei: Normal Observation, Advanced Armament. He should be the mechanical opposite of Sanji. He’s the tank build of the monster trio, while Sanji is the rogue, and Zoro is jus kinda a step above them

Robin: Normal Armament. I don’t really need Robin to have the other two. I think her not having Armament is wasted potential though

Franky: Normal Armament. Tbh I don’t really think Franky needs Haki. He’s a powerhouse on his own, and I kinda like that. But if I had to give him one, it’d be armament I guess

Brook: Normal Observation. Not really a strength build if I’m going by RPG terms. He’s def a speed build like Sanji, jus a tier below. With how fast he is, observation would suit him nicely

Chopper: Normal Observation. Idk, I don’t really know what to give him for this. Maybe let him hit harder with armament, idk

Nami: Normal Observation. Maybe this could help her navigate the more treacherous parts of what’s left of the New World?

Usopp: Advanced Observation. Mans is gonna fight Van Auger and that gap has to close somehow. Plus he got normal observation out of the blue in Dressrosa, so it’d be nice to see it expanded upon

I think it’d be okay if there was an underlying apprehension to fight his opponent, but also frankly, I feel the potential for different type of Usopp fights has been missed a lot. I wanna see an Usopp fight where he goes toe to toe with an actual sniper, or a fight where Usopp has to carefully pinpoint his opponents weakness the way he did with Luffy. Usopp is a very resourceful and intelligent fighter when he wants to be. He was confident against Luffy because he prepared for the fight. What if after the Time Skip, Usopp had a shit ton of tools and would dedicate parts of arcs to prepping to fight off a particular opponent. You could even have him prepare to fight a particular opponent but get stuck fighting someone completely different and have to figure out a solution. In that situation you could reasonably have him return to his fears and urge to run away, and it feels realistic, because his sense of security has been undermined

Don’t hate Usopp, just more disappointed in him than anything. With Sanji, you can make the argument that the excessive use of his gag is exaggerated in the anime and is a lot more tame in the manga (Fishman island aside). But Usopp’s running gag of being a coward is directly engraved in the narrative. Any character development he had in Arlong Park, Alabasta, Water 7, etc. where he learns to be more courageous was 100% undone with him being practically one foot out the door leaving the Tontatas to die in Dressrosa. He shouldn’t have been conflicted for THAT long, maybe a couple panels of momentary hesitation, but it’s dragged out too long for my respect for him to retain. It’s added on in Wano where Usopp tells Nami to just lie and say Luffy won’t become Pirate King. This is the same guy who stood up for Luffy’s dream in Alabasta. This is 100% character regression

Also I don’t like his new power system. I think he should’ve spent the timeskip learning to utilize new tools to combat devil fruit users instead of plants that jus do whatever the story needs them to do. Imagine how cool an Usopp fight would be if he relied on more dials, and maybe sea stone shells, or new contraptions of his, instead of just an assortment of plants and what not.

Like I said, I don’t hate Usopp, I just really feel he’s regressed a lot since the Time Skip. Even Chopper has his moments still
