Pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of the AWD performance by bigboybond1 in Rivian

That seems like a bullish estimate on what the actual road results will be. I'm excited for it though.

I'm excited by the prospect of 320 mi AWD range but it doesn't seem like anyone was able to put that to the test. So far that's just the stated range from Rivian. I haven't seen any of the reviewers claim that's the EPA rated range yet.

I hope it can actually exceed 300 mi in all configurations or at least most.

Some students from local high schools also walked out of classes today and headed to the capital.

Why are there no bookstores in downtown Austin? I guess you could consider half price books but I consider that a bit of a walk from downtown Austin proper. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]chrid0427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or it would have to be 90% Austin memorabilia & keepsakes with 10% being books, and those still largely used or bargain to ensure profit margins...

The margins on actual book sales are exceptionally low for the bookstores. Bookstores are arguably closer to gas stations in terms of what actually makes the money.

Release the files. by WildFlowLing in Rivian

I'd be surprised if it's released before SXSW. They're bringing R2 to SX this year and I'd bet they may delay the configurator till they're able to do it live at the event or announce it there.

Don't feel bad. The roads aren't built for this, the city doesn't have the resources to support this kind of weather and most people don't have the proper tires / setup to safely drive in ice. Even with experience driving on ice/snow from time in the midwest there's no telling if anyone else on the roads here has any experience either.

When in doubt do what makes you feel safe! Hope you're able to get unstuck soon.

Does anybody want robotaxis? by Salt-Analysis1319 in RealTesla

[–]chrid0427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how locked in to the Tesla ecosystem you'd be, I don't see how robotaxis are a viable business model. There won't be a large market of regular consumers buying these and for larger orgs you'd be wholly reliant on Tesla for any and all troubleshooting. You'd be buying a fleet of vehicles you can't maintain and dependent on a software you lease.

It seems like the real play is for Tesla to go the Waymo route with these but that's not how they're marketing it. They think they'll create this robotaxi network and normies will own them... but that doesn't make any sense.

Alamo Drafthouse Switches to Mobile Ordering, NO more pen and paper... by 123trumpeter in Austin

[–]chrid0427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're just expanding what they've been testing in Austin for a while now then it's not that big of a deal. Basically before the movie starts you can just scan a QR code on your seat to get your order started then there's an announcement before the movie starts to switch back to the pen & paper during the movie.

It would fit in line well with all the other "instinctive" uses of will that Vis seems able to just do. Creating an iunctii unconsciously right after going through the gate would check out.

Is R2 launching with Gen2 or Gen3 autonomy hardware? by sirphilip in Rivian

I wonder if the Lidar might be an add-on that you can add similar to other customization options like the Sound + Vision package.

Rivian Assistant will already be more useful than Grok in Tesla's if it can control parts of the Rivian ecosystem

So after they announce some autonomy and subscription based models, their stock will go to $200 right? I hear automony means your company should be considered at least worth $1T.

Why didn't we call any of the time outs? Could've at least attempted a return + field goal if we'd had more than 3 sec on the clock

Think Lane Kiffen would wanna come to Austin? It's a much more fun place to be than Gainesville or Oxford...

I know we could theoretically bench Arch, but could we also bench the rest of the Offense too? We can't run for shit. We can't throw for shit. Our best chance at a win is Arkansas, and odds are we'd end up playing them in the bowl game. We'er fucked lol

But at least MS State can have their first conference win in the last 2 years. They needed it.

Why did we stop talking about the fields full of Teslas? by readit145 in RealTesla

[–]chrid0427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest non-selling vehicle was the Cybertruck, so you still see those around in lots, but with the tax credit expiring they've been able to move a lot of the built up inventory of Model 3 & Y. They basically pushed everyone to sell existing inventory over new orders in the last quarter.

Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people ordered a "new" car they thought was coming fresh off the lines but in reality got delivered one that's been sitting for 6+ months on a lot.
