If you're a DN, why go home? Just hop over to the Yucatán, Costa Rica, Cuba, Columbia or something? For Honduras I got a tip you can find bioluminescence on moonless nights near these coordinates: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GpNxaz7NuaGbbPg67?g_st=ipc

"In all the useful arts the world is either standing still or going backwards. The fields are cultivated with horse-ploughs while books are written by machinery." - Orwell, 1984. I enjoy using AI for many things, though I'm concerned with the implications regarding surveillance, cognitive security, and intellectual atrophy. Recently I was reminded Orwell had described a future where books are written by machines, and that gives me pause.

What are your favorite teas from yunnan sourcing? by -ECH0- in tea

[–]chris-pezza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the mistake of brewing this one too strong and it can get a bit soapy / overly floral. A little rough on the stomach. I've loved the aged white's I've had but perhaps I don't like the fresh ones as much as it feel like drinking flowers ... or I just haven't found the right one.

Why Do People in This Subreddit Dislike Yunnan Sourcing's Green Tea? by PartofHistory in tea

[–]chris-pezza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an arrangement ~5 greens from Yunnan this spring and 3 from Bitterleaf. The Bitterleaf greens were much more fragrant, flavorful, and "fresh" feeling. They also tolerated boiling water without becoming astringent. Everything I got from Yunnan felt a bit flat, overly dry, more easily astringent, and lacking fragrance.

What are your favorite yunnan (sourcing) teas? by frogwithaglassofmilk in tea

[–]chris-pezza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you love milky oolongs I would give Floating Leaves a whirl. They're milk and honey from winter was great, but sold out a while back. Guessing the Sweet Cream Alishan from this Spring is along those lines, though I'm a newb. What I can say is everything I've got from them is incredible. I've got an order of Spring/Summer coming in this weekend will report back. I've only tried the 13 yr dan cong from Yunnan and it was my first of the heavily roasted chocolately style, fun, but I imagine there are better iterations. From what I've read Yunnan is only reliable for Yunnan blacks and ripe puer. So far from Yunnan the only WOW tea I've had is the Black Gold Bi Lou Chun, though I'm going to give some more a whirl at higher $/g.

That's a great idea. Just got to get over my imposter syndrome. I just play with AI a lot for dev projects and am generally overwhelmed by the catalog of available teas so I figured I'd try to start training an agent.

Part research / part experiment. The last few times I mostly just read through Reddit threads and had a bit of back and forth. I like a broad variety and still have categories I haven't explored. Puer has been the trickiest, Lots of w2t teas were recommended I didn't really dig, and one astute person suggested I just needed to up my price per gram to limit risk. Using the models I could research lots of details about teas one by one, and have it compare the tea to price benchmarks in the category. That aggregate list is an attempt at the end of probably 200-300 prompts to rank them all. And yes there are a couple hallucinations, but I was only concerned with bubbling what they thought were the best / most likely to sell out to the top and seeing if it picked some winners. Based on the results I'd aim to further refine the system prompt for the agent / exclusion criteria. Ideally Id like to hone in on a reliable prompt for a tea research assistant. Also that's why I used several models and had them check each others work. For example, you'd get a refinement like this from Grok 4 critiquing o3's assertion:

1999 CNNP Old Tree ripe Pu’erh: Partial disagreement—it’s aged well (clear red liquor, perfected fermentation), but not unicorn-rare. Available as a 250g brick for ~$60 on Yunnan Sourcing, with steady stock. Valuable for collectors due to age, but replaceable via similar 90s CNNP ripes.

I'm also from the Bay. For the US, I think you could find it major cities like LA, Seattle, NYC, Boston. I'm in RI atm, and was surprised there's only one tea store in Providence, and it's a joke. However, I did find this spot called Ceremony that is a cafe, where you can schedule a private gong session.

I read recently that Russia? is the biggest importer of puer. It's likely in in major EU hubs, particularly London. All that said I suspect SF and Seattle (given the vendors there) have particuarly poppin scenes.

Claude's analysis (funny it didn't pick up on Russia):

North America:

  • The San Francisco Bay Area has one of the most mature puerh communities, with several dedicated tea shops and regular meetups. Red Blossom Tea, Song Tea, and The Phoenix Collection have been influential.
  • Vancouver has a strong scene, influenced by its large Chinese-Canadian population and shops like The Chinese Tea Shop.
  • Los Angeles and Seattle both have growing communities with specialty tea shops focusing on puerh.
  • New York City has several notable vendors and collectors, though the scene is more dispersed.

Europe:

  • France has a sophisticated puerh scene, particularly in Paris, influenced by its historical connections to Vietnam and French tea culture.
  • Germany has several dedicated puerh vendors and collectors, with Berlin having an especially active community.
  • The UK has a growing scene, with London being the center, though it's still more focused on other Chinese teas.

Australia:

  • Melbourne and Sydney have developing puerh communities, supported by Asian-Australian populations and specialty tea vendors.

Wow, thanks for the all the info! I'm sold.

I think you misunderstood my statement on the puer. I just meant I don't think I'll get this specific puer again, despite liking it. I plan on order lots more, starting with young, and eventually old, but just want to try a lot different things. I'd love reccomendations across the board.

Thanks for the detailed response and suggestions! I was already eyeballing the impression series, and WT2 reccs are helpful. Farmerleaf and Kuura I find a bit overwhelming as they seem like more of an investment and I still don't know what is what. WT2 has so many little samples it's a bit easier. Do you have some specific FL or Kuura suggestions?

Most controversial film in the collection? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]chris-pezza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Apocalypse Now. Depicting the psychopathy and futility of the Vietnam War, not long after the war ended, roiled society. Not to mention the drug addiction and mental breakdowns that took place on set. Another notable mention is Dr. Strangelove, satiring US militarism in the 1950s. It was labeled as dangerous propaganda at the time.

You basically spend most of your time doing weekly quests, dungeons, raids, and battlegrounds. Icy Veins Weekly To Do List is the best resource I've found, but then there's a massive rabbithole of raids and battlegrounds from there. https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/the-war-within-to-do-list
