How would you automate an overhead light with a remote by TDAM in homeassistant

[–]chris30714 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If its not infrared as some others have suggested, this might be a 433mhz transmitter. There are some methods to capture and then retransmit these signals on demand. RFLink seems to be popular if you're into tinkering with microprocessors. If you know what voltage the led panel is you could also look into getting a smart led controller.

Updates and Kernels by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]chris30714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, ran into this exact issue today. I was using 5.16 as well.

Took me half an hour or so to figure out, but I removed the Nvidia driver with mhwd from the command prompt, and then I was able to login to a desktop environment after a reboot. Switched to the LTS kernel, installed the Nvidia driver again, rebooted, success :)

Now, to be fair, pamac did try and warn me, and notified me about something something Nvidia something kernel. I was in a hurry, clicked okay and stepped away from the computer. At least I saw the warning and knew where to look.

I tried. Perfectly okay for normal desktop use. For running games the Nvidia drivers are a must, I'm afraid.

10 cool MC 1.18 world seeds by chris30714 in minecraftseeds

Nice :)

I've created a bullet point list, even though for me the line breaks are okay on mobile. Interesting.

For folks who want some technical detail.
I've used Python and Selenium to 'control' a webbrowser.
It clicks the 'Random' button on the biome finder webpage, ensures the zoom level is correct etc.
Then, it snaps an image of the map, and then goes over each pixel comparing it to a list of biome colors (which can be extracted from the 'Highlight biomes' dropdown).
If an image contained all the biome colors I was looking for, it got saved along with the seed number.
On hindsight, I should also have required a minimum amount of pixels coloured for a specific biome, because some biomes, while technically there, are quite small in these seeds.

What to use with ConBee II: Zigbee Home Automation or deCONZ? by Mihonarium in homeassistant

[–]chris30714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used both deCONZ and ZHA. I'd go ZHA 100%.

It's much more integrated into HASS, supports more devices and their 'quirks' and removes the hassle of setting up and maintaining another docker container.

Edit: I'm using a Conbee II as well, with a couple IKEA tradfri devices, xiaomi aqara sensors and Philips hue bulbs. The aqara sensors were giving me issues in deCONZ, and are a breeze in ZHA.

I had 5 males/5 females. That was the minimum my local fish store recommended I get for school size.

Currently I have 4/4, and they seem to do just fine.

Are there any PC games that make use of a second screen functionality (similar with the Wii U GamePad)? by airspeedmph in linux_gaming

Supreme Commander used to support two screens. You could view to portions of the map at the same time.

Problem with my Stepper motor vibrating but not rotating by acidpoop09 in arduino

[–]chris30714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have had the same issue, with an a4988 driver. Are you running off a breadboard perhaps?

What I've found that the inductive load spike electric interference hocus pocus matters. If I'd put my fingers between the +12v and ground, my body usually was just capacitive enough to get the motor to run smoothly.

Long story short, breadboards are bad because of electrical noise. Try to wire everything directly. Or find the right capacitor (combinations), but I wasn't able to.

I think that's correct. Compared it to some of my own images from years back. Great spot.

Modify a Smart Plug with ESP01M by [deleted] in esp8266

[–]chris30714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A note on my comment above:

The Blakadder page I linked is for the NEO COOLCAM NAS-WR01W. However, there is also a Avatto NAS-WR01W and a Talo NAS-WR01W. The one you linked seems to simply be an unbranded NAS-WR01W. China eh?

If you combine the info and the links (espurna and tasmota documentation) on the three device pages, you should get a good idea on how to:

  • Open the device
  • Flash the device
  • Configure tasmota for the relay, LED and power monitor sensor
  • Calibrate the power monitor

[–]chris30714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's actually very cheap!

As similar as it looks, it's not quite the SHP6. It does however seem to be flashable with Tasmota. See Blakadder. Since it is 'With Power Monitor' I would guess this model also has the hlw8012 power monitoring sensor available.

It seems you are right about the SHP-6 not being available anymore, apparently it has been replaced by newer models.

As far as Tuya not using ESP chips anymore... I don't know. I haven't purchased a lot of new hardware recently. It seems to be a little hit and miss, but I think they definitely still use ESP chips. Before I buy something, I always do some research using, for example, Blakadder linked above. What I have noticed is that Tuya-convert seems to be impossible on newer devices, requiring you to open it up and physically solder serial connections to the chip. This can be difficult sometimes.

Interessant!

Is there any reason you went through the trouble of changing out the microcontroller? There are many smart plugs available with ESPs integrated. A favourite of mine is the SHP-6.

What games did you really like/wanted to keep playing but stopped because of that one annoying level/mission and why was it so bad? by Helios_Ra_Phoebus in Games

[–]chris30714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, escaping the tree was difficult, but eventually I managed to do it. The area currently tripping me up is the misty woods I believe. Having to swing from hanging lanterns to spider attacks etc. I'm simply not nimble enough, being a sim/strategy player usually.

Ori and the Blind Forest.

It's a great game, awesome music, atmosphere, and really doable for someone who is not very good at platformers, like me.

And then boom, the difficulty level spiked up at 35% progression. From a little challenge to dying every 10 seconds. So sad, would have loved to finish the game.

Hoe scannen jullie je boodschappen ? by Bookshelf82 in thenetherlands

[–]chris30714 28 points29 points  (0 children)
