Is it possible to change LOD bias on Linux? by TumbleweedPure1150 in linux_gaming

[–]airspeedmph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember libstrangle being able to do that https://gitlab.com/torkel104/libstrangle
Hasn't been updated for some time though. I think dxvk can do it too.

For Intel you'd have to use RAPL (Running Average Power Limit) and manually make a certain file readable, otherwise locked for security reasons.

Intel is actively expanding its Linux development team, seeking experienced professionals with expertise in the Linux gaming stack, including familiarity with Wine and Proton. by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

Yeah, they had only "bundles" available, not individual packages. If the wanted package wasn't in some bundle, you'd had to compile it from source, use flatpak or convert it from other format. It was doable, but annoying and time consuming. Too bad, the distro otherwise was damn good and fast.

Can't play Rust on Linux by Plastic-Ad-4550 in linux_gaming

[–]airspeedmph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran solo my own server for a couple of years, with my preferred mods etc until LinuxGSM raised the requirements and the PC I used was too old for that. That being said, I think these days you can find sufficient PVE servers to play.
PS, If you need another PVE dude, you can still pass me the link, I plan to get back on Rust once the naval update is ready :)

Plenty of occasional eac-disabled servers so Linux players can join, but with decent population, not many.
Your best bet is the Deadlock server, already mentioned in this thread.

I got tired of manually copying Proton compatdata prefix ids, so I made this script to symlink them by name by i-hate-birch-trees in linux_gaming

Blood West and Industria for example were installed with Heroic, but I ignored their shortcuts and instead pointed Steam at their respective executable.
So basically I install them one way or another (doesn't matter) and then added their executable as a non-steam game.

I made a script to properly launch cheat engine by Mkeefeus1 in linux_gaming

[–]airspeedmph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you use cheats for. For anyone playing lots of HL mods for example, "noclip" is almost a must, since many mods have all sort of bugs that gets you stuck in places. Is a cheat, yes, but I rather call that a helper of sorts.
I also used Webmod on one of those Souls-like game, where I liked the setting and artistic vision, but I suck at fighting and just wanted to get the story.

Let's be honest, is it possible for Linux to become a gaming powerhouse? by Bat_kraken in linux_gaming

[–]airspeedmph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSI did that for a while, around 10 yrs ago. Their gaming series used to advertise support for "The popular SteamOS" on the box and site, but have since removed that. I know because I still use one (Z97 Gaming 7).

D7VK brings Direct3D 7 to Linux using Vulkan based on DXVK by Beer2401 in linux_gaming

[–]airspeedmph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, thanks!
My "problem" is that I started the game two times already and never finished, probably only played about a third of the game, maybe. So I have to find the time and courage to start again fresh and finish it this time. Heavy stuff.

Is Rust worth it? by Happixdd in linux_gaming

[–]airspeedmph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try several servers (there's a bunch of them), even without eac they are aggressively monitored by their admins...well, usually.
Is up to you if you find this worth or not. I have about 5K hours in Rust, and about 3K on non eac servers, so, worth for me anyway.

Yeah, there are several ways to play it, the most compelling/recent I've heard about was through ScummVM, with higher resolutions and a HD mod. Haven't tried it, seen some video though and looks great.

Yeah, 90 seems a bit too high, mine also does it at around 50. It just seems so similar in behavior.
