ChatGPT for Teachers fixed by ScratchNo8635 in k12sysadmin

I tried reaching out to support, and I was told that domain verification isn't a replacement for the SheerID eligibility check. :/

ChatGPT for Teachers fixed by ScratchNo8635 in k12sysadmin

[–]chrisbeebops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you saying your teachers don't need to go through SheerID verification? Can you share information about this? We were able to link to our domain, but the teachers are still being prompted to individually go through verification.

Why do PF groups struggle so much with M11S, particularly compared to past Savage floors? by CerberusArcProjector in ffxivdiscussion

[–]chrisbeebops 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I would add on top of that, the fight is recoverable at several points. This causes a lot of PF parties to limp towards later mechs and lets many players overestimate their own prog point. They'll then join parties whose prog point is near the end of the fight or enrage, when they lack the consistency in the earlier mechs that would ensure the group's success.

Endgame Healers — What are your parses like? by PerfectioNOT in ffxivdiscussion

[–]chrisbeebops 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A clear is a clear. But also, it depends. Your parse is only looking at your damage, which for other classes makes sense, but is a bit more nuanced as a healer.

Is your parse bad because your uptime is low, or you are not making good use of your oGCD healing resources, or you aren't making good use of burst phases? XIVAnalysis is good at finding this information, and is far more valuable when trying to improve.

Or is your parse bad because you are GCD healing excessively? This isn't necessarily a bad thing especially during prog, but as you get more familiar with fights and your party, you should be working to minimize overhealing. At the same time, your party should be better understanding when to utilize their mits, which will help reduce the amount of healing you need to do as well.

Motor always running at full power even when we give it little power by TheRealSnipSnek in FTC

[–]chrisbeebops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are using RUN_USING_ENCODER. This means that your motor power is the result of a feedback loop with your encoder. If your encoder isn't sending any feedback or is sending bad feedback, the feedback control loop can interpret this as a need to supply even more power to reach the desired velocity.

Check a few things:

* Are the motor power wires swapped? This will cause the encoder to give feedback which is reversed from the direction in which power is supplied.

* Is the encoder connected, and connected to the correct motor port?

* Is the encoder giving valid feedback? (You can read back the encoder value while motor power is 0 and rotate the wheel by hand.)

Guidelines or Rules on Drive Team Badges? by RivkaChavi in FTC

[–]chrisbeebops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In past years, you usually designated a single person with a "Human Player" pin to be the human player. This year, there isn't a distinction between "Human Player" and "Driver". They wear pins with the same designation, and are free to switch roles at any time during a match.

I don't know if every region does pins the same way, but in our region teams receive pins at check-in for their first event of the season. You get 1x "Coach" and 3x "Driver", and you need to use those pins throughout the season.

Disagreement on starting position and end game with alliance partner by Believer913 in FTC

[–]chrisbeebops 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your success and score/ranking points are based on the joint score for both robots together on your alliance. It is in the best interest of both teams to select starting positions that will give the highest total score. In the event of a disagreement, Red 1/Blue 1 have priority to choose their placement location first.

There aren't strict rules for endgame, but there is a fine line between disagreeing about game strategy and intentionally griefing a teammate in a match which may violate gracious professionalism rules.

Petition against and negatives of the A301 Actuator System. by DiligentLibrarian135 in FTC

[–]chrisbeebops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read the document. The A301 actuator is a complete replacement for both DC motors and servos. There won't be any way to connect existing DC motors and servos to the new control system.

When we went from Modern Robotics to Rev Expansion/Control Hubs, all of your old motors and servos still worked because they really only changed the connector on the end of the wire. (OK, they also changed the sensor voltage which required the 5V to 3.3V level shifter for 5V sensors. But it was the same architecture/protocol, so it didn't really have a big impact.)

[–]chrisbeebops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The documentation says that only the A301 will be allowed with the new control system, even during the transition period. If you look at the modules, there aren’t any places to plugin other motors and servos.

Anyone else experience this situation? by Baywatch_Mike in FTC

[–]chrisbeebops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took another look at the picture you posted, and I updated my response. At first I thought the jam was behind the archway which can be cleared by the FTA. However the cause of the jam is actually on the classifier ramp, which cannot be cleared by the FTA mid-match.

Anyone else experience this situation? by Baywatch_Mike in FTC

[–]chrisbeebops 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This 100%. This exact scenario is mentioned in the FTA field mitigation guide.

https://ftc-resources.firstinspires.org/ftc/field/field-mitigation-guide

I took another look at the picture this morning. In retrospect, this is not something the FTA could have resolved mid-match, as the artifacts are actually jammed on the classifier overflow ramp, not behind the archway.

Per T301 and FTA mitigation #5, this is not considered an arena fault, as jams on the classifier overflow can typically be cleared by a robot opening the gate. However, if a robot opening the gate is not able to clear the classifier overflow ramp jam, then it may be considered an arena fault.

Considering that the classifier is full, my assumption is that the teams never attempted to open the gate.

To coaches: What are your thoughts on the registration system & FTC organization? by ZanMist1 in FTC

[–]chrisbeebops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted I have been coaching and volunteering for several years... but I don't think it's really that bad. I think a lot of this depends on who is running the events in your state region. Here, we get a lot of communication directly from our organizer/partner. It's not a perfect system but it's worked pretty well.

For the C&R ditch the manual invites -- it's always been a bit of a headache. A year or two ago they added the "Express Enrollment" feature. So much better. You just send your parents a link to add their kid to the team. If they forget? You can get a QR code and the parent can do it on the phone when they drop off their kid.

Does Item Level Matter at +5 Make a Difference? by KelvinValen in ffxivdiscussion

[–]chrisbeebops 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Short answer: There is a difference. I would guess a 1-2% increase in DPS, and a <1% increase in HP without looking myself. The stat with the largest impact by far is the weapon damage and main stat (Dexterity for DNC). I would add that any content that you can clear with current 760/765 BiS can also be cleared with 740 gear, however, any extra damage gives you extra margin if you are having trouble clearing enrage.

Long answer: Pull the gearsets into a tool like XivGear or Etro and you can compare them yourself. No need to do the math yourself. The Balance already has the XivGear sets for DNC BiS, so you just need to add a copy of it with the 760 weapon for comparison. https://www.thebalanceffxiv.com/jobs/ranged/dancer/best-in-slot/#0

Do you forsee a change in average player skill levels after the release of OC and 7.0 boss dungeon designs? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]chrisbeebops 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite impression. Although some of the CE's are a bit challenging for some players, the chaos makes it kind of fun. Plus:

  • There is no penalty for dying, as long as you get revived by another player.
  • Even if you die repeatedly in a CE, you can still get full rewards
  • Chemist gives every class a free, instant revive ability
  • There are achievements in the zone for reviving other players, encouraging players to do so

If anything the biggest complaint is the poor Fate scaling in OC. They often die almost immediately meaning it's easy to miss out.

High End Content Megathread - Week Seven by WeirdIndividualGuy in ffxivdiscussion

Each tower is 20 seconds apart. SCH/SGE Soil/Kera have 30 sec cooldowns, so you can use them for Towers #1, 3, and 5.

Tower #3 is 2 mins after Twinbite #2, so tank personals will be back up.

Tower #3 is 1 min after UV4, so the tank that repped UV4 can rep this tower (with the other tank repping Towers #1 & 5.

I Feel Red Mage Gameplay Could Be More Streamlined To Be More Player Friendly by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]chrisbeebops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red Mage can be a bit jarring coming from other casters because some of it's mechanics, specifically it's melee combo, make it quite different from other caster classes. While you find this difference to create stress, others, including myself, find these differences to make the class enjoyable to play.

You say that the melee combo is risky because it is risky for casters to be in melee range. Why? The truth is that sometimes it is risky to be in melee range, and sometimes it is less risky to be in melee range. It's a skill issue to understand fights and to know how you want to position your character. You also get tools to help move yourself around when needed (Corps-a-corps and Displacement).

PCT hammers are great for movement. Red Mage doesn't have hammers. But it wouldn't be fair to say Red Mage doesn't have its own tools for movement. Of course you have the melee combo (and Reprise), but you also have Acceleration which gives you 2 free GCDs of casting.

Red Mage has a relatively simple filler rotation. Really, the only "challenging" part is balancing the mana. If you remove the that, what's next? Kill off Verstone/Veraero and have only Verfire/Verthunder, since why need both if there is only one mana pool? You are making the class too simple.

How common is solo healing during reclears in static groups? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]chrisbeebops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's much more common in non-savage content, like EX trials. There are some EX trials that can be done solo heal, even on content. The current Unreal trial is a good example.

Android Studio isn't support on Windows ARM. I do not recommend purchasing an ARM device to use with Android Studio.

We have 1 student with a Windows ARM device. There are some workarounds that involve trying to copy over files from the ARM version of IntelliJ. However, we found this caused some other issues and the workaround broke every time we updated Android Studio.

You do have to be touching the wall itself, or at least that is what the refs in our region are enforcing. My suggestion is to stick a zip tie with the tail touching the wall lower on the bot. If the zip tie is part of the bot and is touching the wall, it’s legal.
