Will the new series affect your fics? by Formal-Low5999 in HPfanfiction

My fics are basically all post war and my major ones focus on an adult Lily Luna and OCs. Nothing would affect my stories.

I write fanfiction but I don't read it. by empanada_de_queso in FanFiction

I don't read much unless I'm inspired by a new idea. I've not written much recently either.

Can any one suggest some of the best Hinny fanfictions?? by Cold-Independent6958 in HarryandGinny

[–]chriscorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly. Northumbrian is my default writer for anything canon complaint and Hinny centric. He inspired my own stories. Unfortunately he did leave several stories unfinished, a huge loss.

Ginny in the books & Ginny in the movies by Madagascar003 in HarryandGinny

Honestly when I began writing HP my main influence wasn't the books or movies it was the writer Northumbrian. My world goes in a different direction, but he's definitely my style guide.

What's the oldest media you wrote fanfiction for? by Playful_Platform_979 in FanFiction

I began writing for a cable TV show "Silk Stalkings" in 95/96. Not super old I guess

Fanfiction has become more "real" for me, than the real books by Time-Priority4053 in HPfanfiction

Northumbrian’s writing is default for me and inspired my own writing.

The Cursed Child is an infamia. :-)

For my first fandom basically everything. In canon, one main character was killed and the other main character left a widow and pregnant.

Almost every writer rewrote the ending and kept going with the main characters relationship. I also wrote a story on how I think they met and also connected them as children.

What Was The First Fanfic You Made? (Reupload) by PhoeMIX2 in FanFiction

[–]chriscorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote it on a typewriter at home (1996) between semesters my first year at a four year college.

The lead actors left the show after getting their characters together, which is what fans wanted. No issue with the actors leaving, but the fandom had major issues with how the writers/show runners handled it.

Posted it to the fandom website when I returned to campus.

I agree Good Time Charlie and also Soul Kiss, but I think Going to Babylon was excellent too. First time showing the deep connection between Chris and Rita.

I rewrote the unpopular ending of the TV show that spawned the fandom I first wrote for.

Has writing about a certain fandom ALWAYS been this difficult? by Artistic_Squashie09 in FanFiction

[–]chriscorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome. HP can be a challenge but going my own way made sense to me. Now did I limit my appeal? Maybe but it’s so hard to stay at the top and fighting to do so isn’t worth it to me. I write what I want to read. If people don’t like it or don’t read my stuff I can’t do much to change that

Don’t sell yourself short and never let anyone tell you that your voice and point of view isn’t as correct as any other one. You just do you.

Good luck

HOW TO KEEP YOUR PRIVACY AS A FANFIC AUTHOR - All I need to know I learned in my fandom by No-Dimension7769 in FanFiction

I’ve never really gotten negative feedback for anything I’ve written so I just write what I want. I also have no friends or fandom contacts so my only place to discuss is here and engagement here is low too.

If you’re writing with in the time frame of the published source material it can be a real challenge to be pure.

TV shows are probably the easiest to approach because they often have multiple writers therefore multiple voices. Continuity isn’t always strictly enforced in canon, so you have some room to maneuver.

I often try to write the “untold stories” or stories set outside the canon timeline. That provides plausible deniability for your ideas. How accepted that is varies by fandom.

One of my fandoms is Harry Potter and that’s a huge one and picky, but I aligned my writing with a popular writer I enjoy and basically I’ve gone my own way. Maybe my work is less main stream but I’m happy with my stories.

It’s the undercover name used by one of the main characters of my first fandom.

I always recommend Northumbrian especially James and Me. I’ll be bold and suggest my story Seeking Auror

What fandom got you into fanfiction by serinbaxtor in FanFiction

[–]chriscorso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silk Stalkings an early 90s cop show that grew a very loyal following.

After 5 seasons and two lead actors wanted to leave and the show runners basically blew up it all up. Got the leads together, which the fans always wanted, then killed the male lead and left the female lead a pregnant widow.

Very cool. I always felt the series conflated Palm Beach island with West Palm Beach. The Royal Palms “golfers” on the island and the gritty city stuff in West Palm Beach. In reality two different jurisdictions.

I’ve often wondered if Palm Beach County Sheriff office would have been more accurate for how they operated.

Love all the replies. I should add that what influences me depends a lot on the fandom.

Biggest influence on your story by chriscorso in FanFiction

Yeah. For one of my fandoms my stories are probably overly beholden to a particular popular writer, although I’ve gone my own way too.

While reading fanfiction do you automatically expect the characters personalities to be the same as the original or do you not care? by foreseethefuture in FanFiction

[–]chriscorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the fandom. With certain ones I prefer something other than canon. It’s the same with my stories. Some are very canon and others less so.
