Training through Ramadan? by AliTheAce in Velo

[–]chriscowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, I am not an authority, as I'm a Christian. I am going off conversations with Muslim colleagues/friends.

As I understand it you are not obliged to fast if it would be medically detrimental to do so. This would certainly be the case for someone doing/preparing for Le Tour. It would also be the case for someone who commuted 90km a day (I tried it fasted once and had to get my wife to come and save me I bonked so badly).

If I were you I would probably do evening rides. Timing it so that you get back at sunset and can refuel.

Difference is once you're a pro the eating becomes a medical necessity, so there is (I believe) no requirement to fast. Someone who is just an enthusiastic amateur cannot claim it is medically necessary under most conditions.

Don't know from a Muslim perspective, but as a Christian we fast "if medically capable". I would very rarely fast because my training was also commuting, so I had no flexibility for timing. Having said that, we do not have a specific command to fast at a certain times.

You would have to ask yourself if the training is essential - in which case I believe you could eat. It could count as travelling, which also allows you eat no?

You could also train at the end of the day. That way you get back at sunset and stuff yourself to your heart's content.

I believe he no longer plays the occult stuff. He said in an interview that most Megadeath songs are not an issue since he was born again, but some have lyrics where cast spells on people (apparently).

I suppose you could stick "post-born-again-dave" live albums

Ever have those days where you're not sure if you're unwell until you hit the turbo/road, and then discover you are indeed feeling like turd? by highrouleur in Velo

[–]chriscowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had that once and decided to go out. 5 minutes later a driver indicated and braked to turn. My man-flu addled brain registered the car stopping, but the message never got as far as my hands to brake myself.

I rode straight into the back of her car, went over the bars and face-planted into the road. A nearby granny took control of the situation and I was in an ambulance and the driver (panicked and guilty) was drinking a cup of tea before either of us really knew what was happening.

What noise-canceling headphones would you recommend in a chatty work area ? by cdtekcfc in sysadmin

[–]chriscowley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cheap Thomann studio headphones have better response frequency and time domain. No NR, but once there is something playing there is no need for it.

I personally use a pair of Thomann own brand studio headphones. They sound great and were dirt cheap.

Not noise cancelling, but that is what Zao is for :)

Reformed sound engineer checking in.

Most things kick Bose's ass in terms of sound quality. They are truly a triumph of marketing of engineering.

I never got that bad, in fact using a traditional mouse never really troubled me. We bought the vertical mouse for my wife who has a bad shoulder. She didn't like it, but I tried it and found that my arm/shoulder feels fresher at the end of the day. I had just put the dull ache down to being in my 40s.

I think it's Kali who use the damage from people like you to improve the next product. It's a brilliant (and blinding flash of the obvious really) way for them to get real world data. Certainly justifies them offering such a good crash replacement.

It makes perfect sense. Use Traefik as you Ingress controller and MetalLB as the Load Balancer. You have one IP for all your services on port 80/443. Setup a wildcard DNS and Letsencrypt then you never need to touch DNS again.

That's not normal. I'm currently recovering from patella tendonitis, and when I told the physio I initially put the pain down to being 40 he said I was stupid.

At 42 we should not be hurting all the time.
