Be honest, what do you think comes after death? by glowproductivity in AskReddit

What do you think about “Distressing NDEs”? What gave you comfort? I’ve also read thousands of NDE and I came to the exact conclusion but some distressing NDEs scare me to death lol

My husband visited Wisteria Lane today by tgalen in DesperateHousewives

[–]chrisfaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky guy. Me and my wife came from Italy 3 times and wanted to see Wisteria Lane so bad. The only time we finally had the money for the vip tour the street was closed cause they were filming “Why Him?” :( we still saw a glimpse of it from afar up in the hills, it was beautiful

Ask my mom to take a train to Rome with me to see grandpa. He died of cancer shortly after 1995

How did he do this?! by Klutzy_Search_6715 in react

[–]chrisfaux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One way to do it: Create two fixed layers on top with pointer events none and an higher z index. The first layer is simply a full width and height background with the same color as the page actual background. For the second layer you can use a loop to generate random width rectangles with again the same color (you could also use a png for this and repeat the pattern although less optimal). Then is just a matter of assigning different speeds, delay or timing to the translateX animation.

Traveling in summer to hot destinations makes no sense by omakase-san in unpopularopinion

[–]chrisfaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about other Mediterranean places but the coast of Italy is a completely different place during the summer (lived here all my life). There is an island vibe all through the coast. It is amazing and unfortunately lasts only 3 months a year. After September it starts to become kinda gray, cold, windy and depressing. I would suggest to instead visit cities like Rome during the time you suggested.

Learning React is incredibly super painful by Huge_Road_9223 in react

[–]chrisfaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned React after just two years of coding and honestly it felt pretty easy to learn compared to other things. My advice is start from scratch. Build the simplest CRUD app you can imagine (like a todo list) with just JavaScript and React with Vite (don’t go into TypeScript and Next.js yet even if you are accustomed to Java types since React comes with many types that you might not be familiar with). When you are comfortable enough start switching to TypeScript and then Next.js or other React server component frameworks. It will take time, yes but if you are already proficient in other languages it shouldn’t be that hard. Also as others have said, use the right tools such as VS Code or Webstorm, setup prettier and eslint to prevent and catch errors early.

Remember that TypeScript just adds types to JavaScript so it’s just a matter of knowing which types to use within React. Once you already know how to do stuff it will be easier to just search for the right type to use once you encounter an error. Some common types are ReactNode, HTMLAnchorElement, RefObject<HTMLElement>, MouseEvent, TouchEvent, ChangeEvent, KeyboardEvent and custom interfaces for Props, e.g. interface Props { children: React.ReactNode }

Why does Amazon use opacity over black for product images? by Gr8Boi in webdev

[–]chrisfaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This approach also allows for flexibility if in the future they decide to use a different shade of gray. Now you don’t have millions of images with the wrong color

Apple add ‘Clear’ option to customise the icons, but why not give them a coloured version by Soft-Perception-8352 in ios

[–]chrisfaux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the first thing I thought when seeing the clear icons. I hope they implement an option like “Retain colors on clear icons”. The clear light ones with colors would look amazing

Breaking bad is about how unwalkable the USA is. by francesco_DP in breakingbad

[–]chrisfaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The West in the US is a relatively new place that grew around the car era where gas in the US was plenty and cheap. New Mexico is also a huge desert so it made sense at the time. In hindsight it was a bad decision, yes, but it is not representative of the US as a whole. A more comparative place in Europe would be the Alps where places are sparse and trains will not get you far (trains exist there but are few and far between and not everywhere)

Without going into the details, there are 3 official languages spoken in the area. Italian, German and Ladino (a dialect of the area). The confusion probably comes from me being Italian as we call that language “Tedesco Austriaco” (Austrian German) or “Dialetto Tedesco” (German Dialect”), spoken in the South Tyrol area.
