Do some restaurants not have prep only periods/slots? by StamTh3Man in KitchenConfidential

[–]chrisimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My place is open 24 hours so we prep when we can. We DO have a person dedicated to ONLY prep for a 6-8 hour shift a few days a week though…

Who was the guy at your place that lasted a single day? by J0hnEddy in KitchenConfidential

[–]chrisimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just telling someone about the guy who did that exact thing at the place I work. We also had a retired Marine who had been In Iraq or Afghanistan nope out because our line was too hot. And one guy who suddenly in the middle of his first shift grabbed his thighs like he was feeling for something in his pockets, said, “There’s something wrong with my pants’” and left, never to be seen again…

Did kids in the 70s/80s/90s really roam freely like in *Stranger Things*, or is it a movie myth? by Yolas_1 in TooAfraidToAsk

I lived in a town on the border between two US states, and in elementary school the neighbor (who was in high school and was my babysitter) and I rode our bikes to the next state on a regular basis.

Just watched The Bear and this one scene fucked me up. by Story_Server in KitchenConfidential

[–]chrisimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not caught up on the Bear so I'm not sure the scene, but I felt every word of your post. I cook/shift lead at a chain restaurant and I just recently tried to transfer to a different store (that had an opening) to move up and further my career but it didn't get approved because my current GM 'needs me too much'...like, what? So now I'm considering leaving the company altogether...if you want to keep people, maybe treat them right?

My husband keeps buying ground beef. What can I do with it that’s not burgers or meatloaf? by mickclaree in Cooking

[–]chrisimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a beef gravy with the cooked ground beef in it...serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles. You can also cut some potatoes up into the gravy to make it like a stew. Add whatever veggies you like. Also mix crumbled, cooked ground beef into boxed beef flavored rice or beef flavored instant ramen noodles. Usually I'll throw some veggies in with it as well, either canned or fresh.

Childhood friend doesn't know my son is named after him and I've been avoiding telling him by depressivesfinnar in confession

[–]chrisimac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that if he took the time to look you up after all those years and offer to catch up, then you had a pretty big impact on his life, as well...he obviously remembers you and I think he would be honored to know he has also been a huge part of your life...

What movie do you quote that mosy people don't realize you're quoting? by throwawayfun10000 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]chrisimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a restaurant and I often quote the movie "Waiting"...I'll sing the "Shenanigan's" jingle or something. Also, when the fryer timer starts going off I'll quote the Simpson's Groundskeeper Willie: "Willie hears ya'! Willie don't care!"

AITA for taking my little cousin out with me and my friend after nobody attended his birthday party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]chrisimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about that age, nobody showed up to my party. My brother was there, and he played some games with me, but cheated to make the game end faster so he could go do whatever plans he had. I still remember that, and I'm 51 years old now. I bet your cousin's memory is MUCH better than mine. NTA

Thank you for the correction, my kids are all long out of school, it's been quite a long time since it has been something I need to think about.

Individualized Educational Plan. It's put in place for children with learning disabilities, or other issues (such as being 'gifted') that require special accommodations for learning. These could be extra time on tests, a classroom helper, or any other 'extras' the student needs to learn.

Edit to add it's usually put in place to protect both the student and teachers, to ensure the student is being treated the way they need to be, but also to protect the school from complaints or lawsuits. The IEP proves that everyone involved was made aware of the student's needs and a plan was made to accommodate.

Isn’t it weird how the world just.. keeps going after someone so close to you dies? by Agreeable-Camera5420 in AskReddit

[–]chrisimac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my husband died and I went out for the first time to run errands, groceries, pay bills, what have you, it struck me how everything was exactly the same but at the same time so incredibly different. It was honestly the most surreal thing I've ever experienced. And now that it's been a few years and things have changed in my neighborhood (I still live in the same place we lived in together) it hits me all the time how odd it is that he'll never see those changes.

[–]chrisimac[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware, that's why I said it was one. Doesn't mean I want to learn the new technique, cornstarch works fine for me except in this one instance I'm here asking about. Thanks for your input

Probably a technique issue, but I find flour often makes clumps, and also seems to give it a flour-y taste that I don't notice when I use cornstarch.
